I think the Queen is a bit stingy with her jewlery

LilyAraminta · 19/11/2019 08:52

Kate generally sticks to her engagement/wedding rings, but I do remember that she has worn a ring on her right hand occasionally. It was a semi-precious gem . . . maybe a topaz or citrine? I didn't particularly love it, but it fits her style and she wears it sparingly.
No thumb rings, thank goodness!

Disfordarkchocolate · 19/11/2019 09:48

I like a lot of the royal families jewellery but not enough to wear it and I wonder if Catherine feels the same most of the time. I associate it with the Queen and Queen Mother - old ladies. I think it would be very interesting if a few sets and tiaras were remodelled for more modern/simpler tastes - with stones that good they're still be amazing.

paradyning · 19/11/2019 09:58

CPM has the most amazing posture! Every time I see a picture of her I mentally hoik my shoulders back.

WineOrGinOrBoth · 19/11/2019 11:18

I sometimes think less is more. But if I was a duchess I’d wear whatever jewellery I could get my hands on.

frugalkitty · 19/11/2019 13:02

I don't wear a lot of jewellery (wedding ring only today) but I do like the real thing so if I was a duchess I'd wear a tiara to the bathroom, just because I could! Grin

FATEdestiny · 19/11/2019 13:27

I feel last night's gown was missing a nail varnish colour.

I know most royal women stick to clear, pale pink or nude nails, but I just don't see why. They wear (often heavy) make up. Plus hair extensions and eyelashes and so on.

Alongside a very posh gown, posh shoes, swish blow dry with extensions, evening make up and bling jewellery - I feel that lack of nail colour leaves and unfinished look.

It looked like Kate wore only clear nail varnish last night. Such a let down in the context of the rest of her outfit.

BeatriceTheBeast · 19/11/2019 13:30

Nah, I disagree on the nail polish, personally. I don't think it would have looked good for her to rock up with a hot pink shellac or whatever. I don't wear coloured nail polish hate it. Can you tell Halloween Grin?

Shame about the lack of enormous diamonds jewellery though.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 19/11/2019 14:11

I agree, coloured nail varnish would have been awful. It's a bit Morticia Addams meets Ann Summers as it is.

astralweaks · 19/11/2019 14:13

Kate has got nail polish nailed, as it is.

BeatriceTheBeast · 19/11/2019 14:16

Properly sniggering at "Morticia Addams meets Ann Summers" Halloween Grin. The weird thing is, I'm just on my own in my living room, sniggering to myself. What a weirdo.

Aaaanyway, I still like the dress. I just think a hair cut and some serious jewellery would have made it much nicer. No coloured nail polish for me though. Not that the DoC is likely to take my advice!

QueenOfTheAndals · 19/11/2019 14:20

Kate has worn nail polish in the past, but on her toes rather than fingers. I disagree that it never looks good - there's a happy medium between clear and hot pink shellac! I thought Meghan's dark manicure last year (or was it early this year) looked divine.

OP posts:
BeatriceTheBeast · 19/11/2019 14:25

No, it definitely doesn't look BAD. Not all the time anyway. But it is never an essential finishing touch imo. And apparently pale pink also isn't right or finishing the outfit properly either, which does imply something towards the hot pink shellac, no?

I do wear it on my toes and don't mind it on other people, but I would never say "oh what a let down, Mary didn't have her fingernails painted", or whatever, personally. Just my view etc.

BlingLoving · 19/11/2019 14:43

I don't wear nail polish often but I have to say I do think it glams up an outfit so in light of my overall feeling that kate let the side down with insufficient bling, I'm in the "a bit of nail polish wouldn't hurt" camp on this one!

The queen really nails this sort of thing sometimes. I think it was last year's remembrance service where she turned up with the most gorgeous dark grey pashmina. It was luxurious and glamourous even though it was actually very simple. the 21st century version of a fur stole. I assume it was some beautifully soft cashmere or similar. Kate needs to adopt a few of that sort of thing. Just a bit more oomph.

For my wedding I wore a swarovski crystal necklace. I still have it but there are so few occasions that mere plebs like me can pull it off that when I do get to wear it I always love it (and get lots of comments). If I was Kate I would totally be embracing that glorious aspect of being royal. DH still laughs at the avarice in my eyes when we visited the Tower and the jewels a few years ago!

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 19/11/2019 14:44

I thought Meghan's dark manicure last year (or was it early this year) looked divine.

I agree, in the context in which she wore it, it looked sophisticated and polished.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 19/11/2019 14:45

I'm doing a lot of agreeing today. I must be in a good mood Grin

BertrandRussell · 19/11/2019 14:57

I thought wearing dark nail polish was one of Meghan’s egregious lapses of protocol?

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 19/11/2019 15:08

Depends who you ask, I suppose.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 19/11/2019 15:13

I dont think the dress needed jewellery, the lace is quite fussy.

She had some earrings, that was was enough.

Lunde · 19/11/2019 15:30

It looks like only Prince Albert was happy to be at Monaco's National Day celebrations!

Looks like they were all sponsored by Dior Wink
Tatiana really has no idea how to dress well! Proportions are all wrong.

Here's Sofia of Sweden wearing a dress I saw in the same charity shop I spotted the Kate dress!

There is something very likeable about Sophia.

BeatriceTheBeast · 19/11/2019 16:02

According to whom? The Daily Hate and their merry band of racists?

I never saw Meghan in dark nail polish. I'm sure she made it work though. But that being the case definitely doesn't mean Kate needed it to make her outfit look finished.

Brightly coloured nail polish is one of those things that looks SO artificial that you have to be a certain type to make it look good imo. Lots of people look fine, even good with it, but that does not equate to it being an essential finishing touch for everyone on a night out. I personally dislike it in general, but sometimes it looks nice. I don't think Kate needed it last night.

justasking111 · 19/11/2019 16:24

I wonder how it works, borrowing the royal jewels. Do you have to ask in advance, are you allowed a decko at the collection to keep in mind when selecting an outfit. Or is there a catalogue you can flick through. I reckon there are items that have not seen the light of day for many a decade. It seems a criminal waste to hide them away rather like paintings that collectors lock away in vaults. If you have them flaunt them.
