I love the opera coats, sadly no need for one here.

I have been browsing the Baukjen outlet, there are some lovely blouses which I am tempted by, although they will certainly not look as delicate on me!

I have also ordered some BA&SH trousers from the OUTNET sale - photo attached. I am hoping they will be good for more casual work days.

BF/CM? @botemp ALso Derry Girls is worth it, it's on Netflix here so subtitles are available! Caveat: I'm part Irish.

I think I am the demographic for Gerard Darel. Not too risky, but with nods to things that are fashionable. I am not in their demographic when it comes to price. I think the clothes (quick peep just the now) look good enough, but I am reminded of for example Peter Hahn, except it's French. And as it's French it works better! Grin

Ah Flo did you fall for the MH siren call?

Floisme · 15/11/2019 11:17

Ah Peter Hahn - they send me their catalogues sometimes!

Yes bani I've fallen. And now MH are sending me emails, presumably cos they think I'm a woman of substance. Where will it end?

botemp · 15/11/2019 11:33

BF/CM= Black Friday/Cyber Monday.

Hmm, well I've had a look at the Gerard Deral site and they're definitely pitching younger these days but it's just leaving me confused as they have a younger sister brand (same price point), Pablo, which now looks positively frumpy as a result Confused

Like the look of the ba-sh trousers, spring. I like the fit of their trousers on me, not always a fan of the materials.

I'm in shock Flo, and I take your sudden flexing of your credit card as proof that the mere mention of RO and his wife's energy can dissolve previously held sense. Lots of pictures when it arrives, please Smile

Floisme · 15/11/2019 11:48

I'm in shock too. I'd been tracking it in case it made it into the sales or even Black Friday (although I don't think MH bothers with that). Then it sold out and I thought, ah well. And then there it was - like a sign from heaven. And now just as suddenly it's out of stock again (in my sizes).

So I am ending the year, as I began it: reckless, frivolous, out of my league. I'll just have to give everyone an orange for Christmas and tell them it's because commercialism.

XingMing · 15/11/2019 12:35

Yes flo, those were the ones!

XingMing · 15/11/2019 12:36

Oh, and well done for seizing the moment re the MH Barbour. Fingers crossed the size is right. Pictures please!

XingMing · 15/11/2019 12:40

The shorter of the two Community Clothing coats is very similar in length and shape to the MH one I bought recently. As it was a sale job, the price difference wasn't as dreadful as I feared. Apologies for the piecemeal posts.

FestivaMaxima · 15/11/2019 22:39

Argh this thread moves too fast for my porridge brain to keep up with!
Springtime I’m a bit late to the Bobbies boots party but I bought some cognac ankle boots last Autumn and was very pleased with them. I’ve also bought and returned several pairs of shoes. Returns sometimes take quite a while to process but everything was eventually refunded.
In other news, I panic bought a black sequin skirt from Warehouse to go out for dinner with my friends (first baby free night out in a long time with trendy friends hence panic). I wore it with a black cashmere jumper and black suede ankle boots but it didn’t feel quite right... In fact, makes me look quite short (I’m 5ft 10 Hmm ) If anyone has any better ideas of how I could style it, do let me know!
Hope the MH Barbour lives up to expectations Flo

FestivaMaxima · 15/11/2019 22:42

PS I like those Massimo Dutti Boots Bo I don’t recall MD participating in BF last year but I might be wrong...

quirkychick · 16/11/2019 07:45

Looking forward to pics of your MH Harbour, flo.

Festiva, is it because the skirt cuts your legs off and then so do the boots? Would wearing it with black opaques work, as it would keep one solid colour?

I've just read an article in Stella magazine, telling me that seasonal dressing is out and less sustainable Hmm. I agree that the high turnover of fast fashion shops is not sustainable and that a core of your wardrobe is trans-seasonal: I have some things I wear year round, such as jeans, denim skirts, long sleeved t-shirts, thin knits, raincoats, trainers. However, part of having a limited number of clothes for me (not really a capsule wardrobe) is the swapping around seasonally and coming to something as new. I switched from swapping twice a year to four times, though I do it in more of a gradual take out and put away of clothes. So, this year it got cold quite quickly, so most of my full on winter clothes are already out and quite a few of my lighter autumn clothes will come out again in spring.

ParisInTheSpringtime · 16/11/2019 09:10

@FestivaMaxima good to hear about Bobbies, although I won’t be returning my boots - they are absolutely beautiful. I am in love!

I am in the Cotswolds this morning - I seem to remember there being talk of a Chipping Campden charity shop which is a must-visit?!

botemp · 16/11/2019 09:32

SadWink Good to hear you're happy with themSpring, enjoy the Cotswolds, Xing is the one to ask where you have to be.

Maxima, it's hard to see because it's all black so can't see where top and skirt really sit and the angle of the picture would shorten you regardless. I thinkquirky might be onto something with the boots cutting you into horizontal pieces. I'd go for sheers personally, a slight sheen will highlight the length of legs better, although it may feel a bit too dressy with pumps and sheers. Or if you've got some, knee length heeled boots that disappear under your skirt would work well.

OP posts:
Floisme · 16/11/2019 10:23

I'm pretty sure it was the hospice shop in Chipping Campden Spring - not that I've committed it to memory or anything.

I think you look lovely Maxima and I'm struggling as to how you could improve on it. All I can think of is that mid calf length always takes a good couple of inches off my legs (and mine are probably a lot shorter than yours) unless I wear knee boots.

Floisme · 16/11/2019 10:34

bani I forgot to say, I loved Derry Girls. Aside from the accents, I think it helps to know a bit about that culture and remember The Troubles (what a ridiculous name that is by the way). But it sounds like you do.

ToEllewithIt · 16/11/2019 10:51

I quite like the black 4-sleeved jumper. I’m less convinced by the light-colored one linked. It reminds me of a mobius loop.

Nice looking trousers Bani and delighted to hear about your four-euro-itous purchase.

Would the top work with a cami with a slightly higher neckline bo? Love your camel coat. Is it the classic max mara one?

Ba-sh trousers are great, kind of low-rise, so might work for red

flo I LOVE Derry girls. It’s the sort of show that makes me snort on public transport when I watch it on my phone, so I don’t. Sister Michael is my favourite character. Can’t wait to see the MH coat. You can always return it if it’s not right.

quirky you can tell that Stellar is an Irish magazine. Not having seasonal wardrobes only really works in our climate. Try giving that advice to New Yorkers! I agree with you that rotating is the way to go.

maxima maybe higher boots or a loafer?

Floisme · 16/11/2019 10:57

Ha! Just realised bani you were recommending Derry Girls to bo not asking if it was any good Blush I think I'm a bit distracted this weekend.

XingMing · 16/11/2019 11:52

@ParisInTheSpringtime, it's the local hospice shop in the main street, opposite Robert Welch. Good luck; it looked very promising.

quirkychick · 16/11/2019 13:55

Yy, sheer black tights would work too or long boots.

Elle, I like rotating my clothes tbh. Although, I have seen lots of people (mostly male) in shorts in the current cold weather Hmm. Optimistic dressing, I think.

banivani · 16/11/2019 15:54

How can seasonal dressing be unsustainable- only if you fast fashion a new wardrobe every season, that’s how. Dumbasses. Or gobshites to stay with the Irish theme!

Took a charity shop twirl today and found an Irish wool jumper for 9 euro! Absolutely massive, but I still couldn’t let it pass by. So much for only buying what is perfect ... colour is great though (but flat in photo) and wool is Donegal flecked. If anyone knows how to shorten a jumper without knowing how to knit ...

Bo I don’t think Zara do any bf/cm (thank you for explaining I ought to have worked it out).

Les Parisiennes de Mamansnet: Be More Aunt Larry
Floisme · 16/11/2019 16:18

You're on fire with your charity shop finds bani. I just take the scissors to jumpers. Lop a couple of inches off, roll the raw edge over a couple of times and press with an iron. People get a fit of the vapours when I tell them but I've done it any number of times (being short) and they've never unravelled on me. Ok not yet. And I've never tried it with anything handknitted or expensive.

Floisme · 16/11/2019 16:19

It looks lovely by the way.

FestivaMaxima · 16/11/2019 19:30

Thanks for the ideas! I think you’re right about too many horizontal lines on the calves. I’ll try it with a pair of black knee high boots.
Also a big Derry Girls fan here. I was a teenager at a similar time to when it was set and it definitely makes me chuckle.
Enjoy the Cotswolds Spring - that’s where I’m from originally!

banivani · 16/11/2019 20:06

Festiva, I meant to ask - don’t you feel more free to play around with things that make you look “short” considering you’re both tall and slim?

Flo, that sounds much too risky! Ideally I want to reattach the bottom hem bit because it’s ribbed. I am headed towards youtube. 😁

Bo, I also meant to say thank you for the Antwerp info (I’m so scatterbrained!). It sounds a little chancy for us not in the sample size region 😉

quirkychick · 17/11/2019 09:43

Lovely jumper, bani. I have a weakness for wool jumpers, just as well I live in the UK and need to wear them a lot Grin. I can't believe seasonal dressing is less sustainable either, love the term gobeshites btw.

Talking of opera coats, we went out to a neighbourhood "safari", which involved drinks in one house, starters in another etc. so I went for purple velvet coat with huge burgundy faux fur stole to be warm between houses. I went for plain black underneath, though.
