Here’s the scarf! One to show size; the other for colour and the sheen.

Delighted the MH Barbour is a staple!

Gorgeous scarf and lovely view!

XingMing · 12/12/2019 15:27

It is a lovely view, even in the rain today; we were lucky to get the house, and if we move, it will be a wrench. But the garden is a nightmare.

BloomedAgain · 12/12/2019 15:37

I attempted to grow veg this summer which was uncharacteristically successful and overcrowded, but the garden is a sorry mess now. And the weather doesn't make me want to garden.

Redandblue11 · 12/12/2019 17:07

Well very topical today’s post Bo , I have not got to the polling station yet but I will definitely go! I might need comfort blanket / scarf to protect me.

Elle, I hope all the house move etc etc goes well and that you get reunited with your longed possessions

Very happy that MH coat is a staple now.
Oh and admiring that scarf Xing!

Treacherous here today and this weekend I must go in the garden and do a couple of jobs before is too late , like moving a dwarf prunus tree into a giant pot as the current position is too exposed and other bits and bobs. So hoping it stops raining as otherwise I am not looking forward to that job.

BloomedAgain · 12/12/2019 17:12

Love all the protective wear Bo. I think that's going to be my thing now, super comfortable/luxe fabrics but giving an air of being protected would be great. I've spent too much time feeling uncomfortable and vulnerable. And yes voting required waterproof and thermals!

Floisme · 12/12/2019 19:30

What interesting photos! Since I gave up on magazines and influencers, I've been getting most of my ideas from people watching but, I have to say, there's no-one round our way dressing quite like this!

That looks amazing Xing - beautiful colour and so dramatic.

Hey Pink I was wondering if you were still around.

banivani · 12/12/2019 20:22

Hey Pink, so nice of you to pop by! We all owe you! 🥰

Xing - love the scarf! 😍 it looks so long, I look forward to some sash pics ere long. 😉

Calendar - more defence! But then there we are. It is in the air, the modest dressing trend too (as hashed out in many MN threads).

When a friend was in Bangladesh many years ago she was told that the shalwar kameez had two layers of fabric over all the dangerous bits. 🙄 Speaking is defence and covering the heart.

I agree that some more flamboyance in menswear wouldn’t go amiss.

Trouser update: still unbought. She remeasured and now rise is 24 cm and waist is 84. I dither.

Pinkarsedfly · 12/12/2019 21:18

I’m still around, would still love to be French, but still rocking the superannuated scruffy student vibe Grin

BloomedAgain · 12/12/2019 22:09

Not meaning to bring politics into this thread but I've just been made aware of the term bellwether in relation to constituencies who are indicative of the overall result. It can also describe a trendsetter @botemp is this the true origin of your name Wink en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bellwether

botemp · 12/12/2019 22:32

Have a croissant Pink, miraculously good for feeling a touch French.

Ooh and we're back to sheep again too Bloomed. OT but thread related, Donald Trump Jr. went to Mongolia and shot an endangered sheep Hmm I'd like to see a reactions from Bani's designer.

Bellwether sounds/looks remarkably like the Dutch word 'betweter' which means (annoying) know it all, sort of. I get accused of being one of those a lot Blush so you may be onto something.

I don't even know the origin of my name, I never intended to stick around so signed up with an old throwaway email address. The temp was for temporary but the bo may be body odour for all I know... Bo is a somewhat common Dutch name though, short for Bodil which I think is originally Scandi. They tend to be badass hockey girls, which I'm very much not.

Ugh politics, I'll need to rewrite tomorrow's post now. It wasn't political but it's probably not the best for tomorrow morning if results didn't go your way and it being Friday 13th. Anyhow, it'll be later than usual.

In Plain Sight

Despite knowing full well our emotions don’t reside in our heart, the symbolism perseveres. Many of us have nestled in that very spot of our mother and/or other loved ones, so it’s no surprise that it feels like an almost sacred spot to many on an intrinsic level.

With an X strapped or wrapped around these organs, it’s difficult to say whether it’s a form of protection or a giant target but in the absence of material there’s little hiding the fate of the vulnerable patch of space. Exposure is an interesting thing, as is being exposed when it’s a voluntary, especially when in such close proximity to secondary sex characteristics (in women).

Not everyone is fit to commit to such exposure, and that’s absolutely fine. In turn, it gives opportunities for an exploration in pattern cutting that highlights this area while still preserving this sensation of negative space.

While the focus is often to the front, the back can feel just as vulnerable, if not more so. A bare back is not a new thing for women’s fashion and the time is about right for it again. The main difference now is not to communicate a lack of a bra that teases an invite to touch. It is very much negative space, a thought out part of the pattern rather than an exercise (of suggestive exposure) in itself.

For men’s wear, it is somewhat of a novelty and, consequently, the approach has an added layer to lean into it.

A zipper communicating a choice, a negotiable boundary for someone not quite committed. Or as a layer, revealing what lays beneath -contrasting fabric- when bare flesh feels a step too far for now.

While a small step can feel unsatisfactory in the moment, it's a step forward nonetheless and not one to be discarded just on account of that.

I started from scratch, not sure how much of an improvement it's been but to anyone feeling a bit vulnerable today.

Redandblue11 · 13/12/2019 15:35

Yep I need a big hug today. Huge one.

Thank you for today’s post Bo, picture 6 (maybe because of colour) is a great one to me.
I really like the shirt in photo 10 ... any idea of where I could find something similar? An open cut in the back of a shirt sounds really appealing, so much that I would like to have one!

Redandblue11 · 13/12/2019 15:37

A version of Photo 8 also looks wearable. would love to find something like that too

BloomedAgain · 13/12/2019 16:22

Love the intricacy of the fourth piece.

Floisme · 13/12/2019 16:34

No hugs for me thanks I'm too cross today, and not with the Conservative party but at the ineptitude of Labour managing to lose Rother Valley, Redcar, Blyth Valley. Darlington, Bolsover. Utter, utter knobheads and not a flicker of self reflection.

But thanks bo great photos as always and some of them look quite wearable.

Floisme · 13/12/2019 16:58

Apologies, I normally save that for other boards Blush

I don't actually care how anyone else voted on here. I believe people just make the best decision they can.

botemp · 13/12/2019 17:09

I don't care either, I can usually understand the motivations even on the extreme right and left wing ones. May not agree with them or feel it needs a deeper analysis but won't dismiss them just because I feel or think they're wrong, that's how polarisation is cultivated and I'm not exempt from ever having gotten it wrong either.

I'm not sure where to find the men's shirt. I actually think the third pic (of the men's) is a back to front collarless shirt. The first one is from South Korea but I'm not sure of the brand. Can imagine doing a DIY job of sorts by hacking a plain men's shirt.
