Not keen on Kate’s outfit tonight. Bit dull when the rest of the family are out in their finery. Those tights! She looks so thin, it’s really giving her a pinched, drawn appearance. I’m usually a huge fan of her look, but not tonight.

Meghan. Glowing. Pregnant. Or not pregnant but enjoying the speculation. Either way it’s all very odd. If she is pregnant, surely she’d try to disguise it better. So maybe she’s not. But if you weren’t, you’d be aware that dress made you look pregnant and you’d wear something else - wouldn’t you?

Rhubarbisevil · 10/11/2019 00:27

I hope this link works - it is a panoramic vista of the Royal Box from Sussex Royal

The photo I’m talking about is the third one. You can tell that both Prince Andrew and BoJo (bottom right) are thinking 💭 Who said I had to sit next to this f*cker?💭?

Rhubarbisevil · 10/11/2019 00:28

Sophie’s dress from 2016 is lower cut than Meghan’s. Just saying.

Mitsouko67 · 10/11/2019 01:10

Nobody likes the headband.I think it's fab. Would love to try one though think I'm probably past the headband stage. Love that it is less than 20 euro.

itswinetime · 10/11/2019 02:01

So Kate's dress is pretty standard but that's what you expect with an event like tonight I think hair band is a fail for me!

Meghans dress is all wrong way too much material in all the wrong places it makes her look a bit boxy I think not the right cut for her at all.

The poppy thing baffles me

The queen has like 5

Anne and Kate 3
But Camilla only one ? Does she need less as hers is shiny?
I need a poppy etiquette guide before tomorrow I think GrinWink

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 10/11/2019 06:51

Went down a rabbit hole and was listening to Maxima’s amazing skills with languages

She has a British accent, on certain words. Apparently she went to a bilingual English / Spanish secondary school.

It was after the death of her sister and naturally she sounds so sad.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 10/11/2019 07:04

Found this one of
He’s like the British retirees near me. Such a strong English accent!

BertrandRussell · 10/11/2019 07:13

The top half of Meghan’s dress is lovely, I think. There is something wrong with the skirt.

I do hate oneupmanship poppy wearing! I like those little enamel ones people are wearing this year.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 10/11/2019 07:19
I think it was probably made in the 19990s given John Major is pm.
frugalkitty · 10/11/2019 07:51

I tend to lose poppies so I wear a crochet one, bought from a BRL stall in a supermarket near us a couple of years ago. There were lots to choose from, all slightly different but I like that it's reusable and a proper pin so I don't stab myself.

MotherofPearl · 10/11/2019 08:11

I'm not sure about Kate's 3 poppies but I've read that HMQ's 5 poppies are meant to represent the different branches of the armed forces - army, navy, Air Force, civil defence and women. Not sure how accurate that is.

QueenOfTheAndals · 10/11/2019 08:13

Did someone say the poppies represent the amount of family members you lost in the war? I guess it's not impossible for Kate to have lost three great uncles or aunts. Trying to think who HM's five would be. Think the QM has two brothers who died on WWI and did the old Duke of Kent die in WWII? And there's probably a few relatives on the German side but we won't mention those!

Was the DoE at last year's Sunday services? I didn't think so.

Horsemad · 10/11/2019 08:17

I seem to recall last year Kate's 3 poppies were worn in memory of 3 family members.
No idea about the Queen's though.

QueenOfTheAndals · 10/11/2019 08:19

A closeup shot of Meghan from last night. Her makeup is impeccable. If the monarchy is ever abolished then I reckon she could get a deal to market a line with a cosmetics company because whatever foundation she uses is amazing!

Stunning photo of Meghan.

BertrandRussell · 10/11/2019 08:20

“ army, navy, Air Force, civil defence and women”

Since when have women been a different branch of the Armed forces?

Horsemad · 10/11/2019 08:35

The women of this country (and others) made a huge contribution to WWII, so I imagine it's to recognise their efforts.

Wetdogloveshubert · 10/11/2019 08:36

@itswinetime this link explains the theories on the number of poppies. Some think the Queen wears five to reflect the number of armed forces, while others suggest it's simply style.

To those suggesting Meghan may be pregnant, this picture says to me that it's the heaviness of the jacquard fabric and awful belt positioning.

Royal style: it's leather skirt season!
Horsemad · 10/11/2019 08:36

Not necessarily in the armed services either.
Land Army, munitions factories, nurses.

Wetdogloveshubert · 10/11/2019 08:37

Damn, sorry, I should have refreshed.

Horsemad · 10/11/2019 08:38

It's a shame some of Meghan's outfits are such a miss. Is it a case of Emporer's New Clothes I wonder?

She needs a damn good stylist. And quick!

ElspethFlashman · 10/11/2019 08:53

She looks like she's wearing a black dirndl.

That said, I like the idea of jacquard as frequently at these events the ladies dresses are literally camouflage as the RAH is so dark. At least the pattern stands out.

Agree Kate is looking quite drawn and pointy these days. It's a shame.

Becles · 10/11/2019 08:53

@whitershadeofpale

I’m surprised so many here like Meghan’s outfit. I think she looks awful; the cut doesn’t suit her, it doesn’t fit, it’s not right for the occasion and she’s clearly pregnant again and trying to show it off, which I find rather bizarre behaviour

Hmm Seriously??

Others have worn similar necklines in the past
If she is pregnant, why should she dress to minimise?
Merely dressing is 'showing off'? It comes close to the DM's obsession with women going about their daily business 'flaunting' their clavicles or Shock ankles.
