They all attend the Cenotaph on Sunday don't they?

ajandjjmum · 06/11/2019 20:17

I might be in London on Sunday morning - is there anywhere to go where you would be able to absorb the atmosphere? Assuming HM hasn't got room for me on the FO balcony! Grin

QueenOfTheAndals · 06/11/2019 20:22

Did HM attend at the Cenotaph last year? I thought Charles went in her place.

If I was Meghan I'd start making a mental list of the saddest things I've ever heard because even the smallest smile on the balcony will become "Mocking Megs smirks at the fallen" in the tabloids!

Yes, pretty sure it was last year's Remembrance Day where the media showed pics of Camilla & Kate looking Hmm at HM.

queenofarles · 06/11/2019 20:34

Loving the gold gown and rubies!
HM’s hair matches the car interior Grin

QueenOfTheAndals · 06/11/2019 20:50

Sorry, I meant the laying of the wreath @Horsemad. I thought the PoW attended in her place?

A funny conversation that I just had with dd. (I'm watching the Duchy of Cornwall episode 2 tv programme). "Oh is this that interesting Prince William and Meghan Markle marriage programme?" she asks completely innocently. I told her that that would indeed be interesting TV!!

Horsemad · 06/11/2019 21:37

@QueenOfTheAndals, hmm, now you mention it, I'm not sure! Think you're right though & it was PoW who did it.

@Catrescue1971 - Shock Grin

So a couple of royal engagements tomorrow - William and Kate launching the National Emergencies Trust and Harry and Meghan going to Westminster Abbey with Camilla.

Hello! I'm on my way home from BP.

So, I was there in a sort of work capacity - the reception was for the charity I work with, and I was there to talk to the guests about what we do, and to try to make sure that everyone was in the right place for the royal walk-around.

There were lots of lovely dresses and I talked to some very lovely and interesting people.

I have been to these things at St James's Palace before, but not BP. The rooms at BP are on a much grander scale! and as they were all lit up and full of people, they certainly weren't bleak - although I can imagine that when empty they would have a very different vibe.

Everyone seemed to have a good time, and people were thrilled to be introduced. It is always fascinating to watch what goes on, and to see the way the security and household staff are subtly keeping an eye on everything.

I think there are many engagements like this that slip under the radar. I'm not sure why they are not reported - surely it would be good for people to realise how many engagements the RF really carry out?

QueenOfTheAndals · 07/11/2019 04:51

Who was the attending royal @PiedImperial?

OP posts:
PiedImperial · 07/11/2019 06:37

Oh, sorry @QueenOfTheAndals, I thought I'd put that in! - it was Prince Charles.

WineOrGinOrBoth · 07/11/2019 06:46

That sounds fascinating @PiedImperial.

Thank you for sharing that.

I’ve done a BP tour & loved all the rooms. I got to drive in & out of the gates as I’m disabled which was a bit surreal with people videoing & taking photos. Then seeing we weren’t anyone special. The disappointment on their faces was quite funny Grin

paradyning · 07/11/2019 07:04

Thanks @PiedImperial. Sounds v interesting. Was he in checks??

beanaseireann · 07/11/2019 07:26

Thank you for the update PiedImperial.

QueenOfTheAndals · 07/11/2019 07:40

I hope you gave them a regal wave @WineOrGinOrBoth!

I think PC was in a very standard dinner jacket suit. Obviously if it had been the DoC (or any other royal lady!) then I would have taken more notice of what they were wearing Grin

WineOrGinOrBoth · 07/11/2019 07:41

I did indeed Queenmy dcs were in their element. Grin

QueenOfTheAndals · 07/11/2019 07:50

The long-suffering (and possible tricky MiL) Queen Sofia is 81 today. Here she is with her family soon after SFF's birth. Don't they all look thrilled???Grin

Is that a photo or a painting? If a painting I'd have wanted my money back!
Glad you enjoyed your evening, PiedImperial. DH and I went to a Buckingham Palace tour a few years ago and thought it was fascinating. We also noticed how the staff subtlety keep things moving along.
Did you have food?

PiedImperial · 07/11/2019 09:28

Wine Grin unfortunately there was no one really around to see us walk in and out of the main entrance! The policemen at the gates were all very friendly though.

Late I didn't eat at the palace, no, but some of our staff and obviously all the guests did. Probably a good thing, though, as I'm really not very good at small talk, so I'm not sure I could have kept going all the way through dinner!

peridito · 07/11/2019 09:44

I agree Late terrible image Queen Sofia .

I found these from HM's visit to Slovakia in 2008 .Love her in that warm .pale golden shade . Love the bouquet . And a smashing tiara ( hope image not too small)

I think that's a photo of the Spaniards that has been heavily coloured. Sofia looks nice though. King JC resembles the DoE there but I think they're distantly related. Both he AND Sofia are related to the DoE and HM, come to think of it.

I worry about having food stuck between my teeth on formal occasions, so I would have been relieved too, PiedImperial!

I agree that Sophia has come out best on the family picture.
When I first glanced at the photo of the Queen in the tiara, I thought it was her mother for an instant. I'd never really noticed the likeness between then before. I've always thought of the Queen looking like her father.
