It was fashionable for a while to tie belts like that in the dim and distant past when I wore fashionable stuff.

7Worfs · 04/11/2019 12:14

It’s supposed to be fashionable, Burberry staff show you how to do it when buying a trench Grin

goes back to lurking

RomaineCalm · 04/11/2019 12:19

Queen I loved the tiara that she wore for her wedding.

A quick google also suggests that she is a researcher doing a doctorate in bioethics and organ donation. Useful fact of the day!

Yes, that knotted belt thing is more with trench-coats.
It looks awkward with a woollen coat and belt....

QueenOfTheAndals · 04/11/2019 14:01

Yeah, I knew it was a thing with trenches but I don't think it looks good with a thick fabric.

I have twice last month seen women in wool coats with a leather belt holding them closed. I quite like it. The belts weren’t knotted though but having recently watched a bunch of historical dressing videos on YouTube I have to say that finishing off a leather belt with a knot is v historical.

QueenOfTheAndals · 04/11/2019 14:18

How do you get a leather belt to stay knotted?

OP posts:
banivani · 04/11/2019 14:29

I’m in a meeting so can’t link to a video (in case I hit play and embarrass myself) but check out crowseye productions’ channel and the middle age dressing ones for example. Although those belts are thinner. You use a buckle but the long bit goes into a sort of half knot after the buckle bit (no belt loops).

Someone’s finally said it Meghan for President
Entirely within the realms of possibility.
An interesting proposition.
And the US government can take over the security costs.

I'm not sure True Royalty TV is the most reliable of sources...

Is there curtsying in other countries?

QueenOfTheAndals · 04/11/2019 17:35

Yes, I've seen photos of CPM genuflecting to Max.

Princess Madeleine attended a family day at the Swedish Church in Florida to celebrate its 10th anniversary wearing a red, paisley handkerchief dress.

There was a bit of gossip in the Swedish media that she didn't bring her family to the family day hinting that the decision to leave the kids at home may have been a protest against the King's recent decision to strip her children of their future roles as working Royals But in any case a woman from the church packed her up a pile of cinnamon buns in serviettes - that Madeleine apparently put in her handbag.

Here's Max in a blouse with a gigantic pussy-bow. I think the two blonde women are her sisters-in-law?

Bling the first two seasons were 'kid friendly' in that there was no swearing. They weren't making anymore but I think Netflix took it up and made the third which was ok but full of bad language which didn't fit with prior seasons....it even used the C word which I hate. Ruined it for me sadly, which was a shame as the first season was very good and threw up some interesting questions.

Also, sorry to be off topic, but the series Touch (with Keifer Sutherland) was also very good, worth a watch.

BertrandRussell · 04/11/2019 18:22

Blimey, Queen! That’s a pretty awful collection of frocks!

SenecaFalls · 04/11/2019 19:08

I loved Claire of Luxembourg's wedding dress. Elie Saab.

And yes, there is curtseying in other countries, especially among fellow royals. Those Scandinavians especially seem to be prolific curtsiers; CPM especially likes to dip almost to the floor.

Horsemad · 04/11/2019 19:36

Beautiful wedding dress and tiara posted upthread. 🙂

paradyning · 04/11/2019 19:40

Max's ring in her right hand is enormous!
Interesting about Madeleine. I like her dress until the hem. Not a fan of those hanky edges.
Claire's dress was immense. I still can't decide whether I loved it or not. Saab did her SILs dress too but I preferred Claire's.

QueenOfTheAndals · 04/11/2019 19:59

I think GDMT is a fan of Elie Saab too. I don't know who did poor Tessy's dress but I don't think it was Saab?

@frugalkitty I remember the last season now. I think I blocked it out. A friend and I spent a lot of time bitching at how they just glossed over things. Hadn't seen Touch though.

IfWishesWereFishes · 04/11/2019 22:30

Max seems to be tipping from 'only Max could get away with that' to 'not even Max can get away with that'

paradyning · 04/11/2019 22:30

Teddy's definitely wasn't Saab. More Pronuptia
