I definitely need to have a period of no spending. Is it OK to set exceptions? There are a few items I really do need. My plan is to list these items, and not to buy anything that isn’t on the list.

Sooverthemill · 11/12/2019 13:34

The 'no spend September' I think allowed second hand items. But if you write a list eg new bra, thermal vest, diamond bracelet and just stick to that and not get distracted by fabulous sale bargains I won't complain! I'm going to try to do the same although I do want a pair of Russell and Bromley loafers and a pair of very comfortable and supportive trainers both because of my dodgy back, but I won't buy unless in a sale and not until after Christmas. My spending has been crazy after many years of being frugal. I have to rein it back in again!

OublietteBravo · 11/12/2019 13:57

Ok - I will do no spend except for things on this list:

  • black or navy jacket for work;
  • black or navy smart trousers for work (1 pair only);
  • dark blue skinny jeans (to replace the old pair I’m wearing today);
  • ankle boots (no heel) - black, dark grey or brown;
  • navy blue cardigan (my current one has almost worn through at the elbows);
  • longline jumper or top to wear with leggings (again - only one permitted);
  • general purpose belt (I don’t currently possess any belts - the last one wore out after many years of use);
  • sports bra;
  • underwear (but no socks).

Plus I will only buy things on my list if I really love them. I will not buy something that is merely OK just as an excuse to shop/spend money.

Is that specific enough?

Sooverthemill · 11/12/2019 14:10

Looks fine to me! The sakes will be great for these. Jigsaw especially

OublietteBravo · 11/12/2019 14:17

I should also specify a time period. I’m going to aim for 3 months (until mid-March). I’ll reassess then, and decide if I need a permitted list for spring/summer.

KiteflyingKat · 11/12/2019 15:48

Hi @oubliette I’m doing no spend but my rules are:

  • I can replace essential items if they are completely worn out
  • I can buy things I need which I put on a list at the start of no spend, but for me the only item on the list is a long sleeved plain white t-shirt Grin
  • if I want to buy something I don’t strictly need I must sell something first - eg ebay
  • my no spend includes charity shop buys as that’s probably my main downfall Grin
Ellapaella · 11/12/2019 17:01

I'm going to do no spend and really there is nothing I need. So I'm going to try and stick to it!

I have several big trips away next year to save for so I have motivation to save.

Thank you @Happierwithouthim - I'll look out for your pictures too. I've got so many ideas from this thread, it's fantastic Smile

@happytobemrsg I love your jumper! Definitely more Christmassy than mine Grin

I definitely want to join in the no spend, I'll start thinking about my rules. I like the idea of some items I'm allowed to buy but only if I love them.

I was at work today, and everything in my outfit was several years old.
Dress from Boden
Roll neck from monsoon
Boots from dune

Now I'm home so about to change into cosy PJs Smile

timswifey · 11/12/2019 19:36

I spent a bit at Tesco today Blush changing into comfy/fleecy/warm pyjamas now 🥰

Visiting family tomorrow and already planning my outfit...

Those of you who have had a colour analysis, did you turn out to be what you thought?

I’m pretty sure I’m winter (dark hair, blue/grey eyes, pale skin) but just wondered how many people are surprised at the result? Or was it what you suspected?

Ellapaella · 11/12/2019 20:58

@KiteflyingKat I always thought I was an autumn and yes I was diagnosed as an autumn hourglass. To be honest I thought my body shape would be more rectangle as I don't think I'm a typical hourglass so that was a surprise.

OP posts:
happytobemrsg · 11/12/2019 21:48

@KiteflyingKat I thought I’d be an Autumn pear, but they analysed me as an Autumn hourglass.

I love your style @timswifey

I’d also like to do a no spend until my personal shop in March. I’ll have a think abut my rules but I don’t need anything right now.

Busy day today so soft have time for a selfie! Wearing my MV jumpsuit for the first time & I loved it. Went to work then dinner & I’ve skating at Somerset House with my team. I’m pleased to report that I didn’t fall over Grin

I also find MV hit & miss. I love their jewellery, faux leather leggings & my jumpsuit. I bought a nice shirt too. But I’ve found their knitwear to go very bobbly very quickly.

timswifey · 11/12/2019 22:13

@Ellapaella @KiteflyingKat @happytobemrsg who does the colour analysis? I'm pretty sure I'm some sort of autumn as I love anything with earth tones. Brown eyes and warm brown hair.

Ellapaella · 11/12/2019 22:16

@timswifey I got an analysis from styled by Susie - I'll find a link

@Ellapaella @happytobemrsg on what basis is the body shape worked out? Do you send them photos in your swimwear or something skin tight? Or do you send measurements?

I’m pretty sure I’m hourglass as my waist nips in and my boobs/shoulders balance out my bum/hips - if I stand in my underwear I’m definitely more like an hourglass than an apple, pear, rectangle etc. Also if you take my bust, waist and hip measurements that points towards hourglass.

I’m tempted with the analysis but I feel like if they say winter hourglass I’ll feel short-changed as I already know that (I think) and if they say something different I’d be questioning it Grin

Is it worth it??

Sooverthemill · 12/12/2019 08:36

I had a Colour Me Beautiful analysis done ( but in 1991!) and I was a soft spring as far as I can remember. Many house moves later I can't find the info. Makes sense as I'm an 'English rose' type colouring so softer blues, lavenders, greens tend to suit but it helped me know a red and a brown and a grey that would work too.

Today is a cold day! DH finally back from London ( took him from 5 am to 1.30 going out on Tuesday to do a usually 2.5 hour train journey and similar on the way home Wednesday night). So I am just at home, planning to wrap some Christmas presents with DD later

Top: hush this season ( super soft top?)
Jeans: old jigsaw boyfriend
Shoes: brand new Boden sale. Perfect for my inability to bend and do up shoes I thought! Sale bargain and may go back for the red ones

OublietteBravo · 12/12/2019 08:38

I’m deliberately in black today as my workplace choir are performing in the work pantomime. The jumper is quite sparkly - but I’m not sure that comes across in the photo.

Jumper: Warehouse (2017?)
Dress: M&S (2018)
Trainers: Hobbs (2019)

Sooverthemill · 12/12/2019 08:50

@Oubliette the jumper is fab!
Question: how are those Hobbs trainers different from the jigsaw ones you have? And comfortable? I'm on the hunt!
I've just bought two pairs of backless loafers from Boden clearance. Fully aware they aren't the height of fashion but brilliant for my back and I will send back if no good. My no spend starts January. Btw jigsaw footwear 40% off

OublietteBravo · 12/12/2019 08:56

@Sooverthemill - I prefer the Jigsaw trainers. The Hobbs ones are still comfortable, but a little low at the back and thus they feel slightly less supportive/secure.

I will not look at Jigsaw footwear, I will not look at Jigsaw footwear...

happytobemrsg · 12/12/2019 09:33

@KiteflyingKat you send in photos of yourself in tight fitting clothes (I wore leggings and a vest top). The information they give you about dressing for your shape is brilliant so even if I already knew my shape was hourglass, the analysis was still super helpful.

I’m knackered from my long day yesterday so still in my pjs 😴

toodlethenoodle · 12/12/2019 10:03

@happytobemrsg That looks like a beautiful outfit!
