I found my 9ml of Captured by Candlelight! It was in my laptop case. What was I thinking?! I have had a celebratory pre-bedtime spritz (yum) and have put it in a safe location. I definitely need to have an Ebay selling spree now as I really want to fund a full bottle...

Hugs, crazy perfumistas and your winter scarves of a thousand scents (lovely phrase!)

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 01/11/2019 23:54

SOTD MMM Lazy Sunday Morning - on a Friday!

I too wore a big scarf today which hinted at many past scents.

My coat is smelling...um...interesting :)

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 02/11/2019 12:08

Morning all! What a grim rainy day. I'm staying indoors - thankfully the heating has finally been fixed so we are toasty-warm (ish) for the first time in two years!

Two of my ebay samples arrived today so I have Dior Addict on one wrist and the divine L'artisan Parfumeur Traversee du Bosphore on the other. DP is a big fan of Addict, it turns out... Grin

Hope everyone's having a lovely day. I haven't a scarf of 1000 scents but I do have a lovely cosy sweater from Cos (my 'lazing on the sofa sweater') that smells deliciously different every time I put it on. Very comforting.

teta · 02/11/2019 12:33

My lazing on the sofa sweater smells of dog, not perfume as he likes to laze with us....in full smelly glory😁. My coats smell nice though.
Ebaying is going ok - one sold, 4 bids and 9 more to go.
Ffern summer is Sotd to watch the Rugby. I'm amused by the interviews of few words from the UK side which is maybe understandable under the circumstances. Ds1 is similar ( dyslexic) and a good player and I'm trying to look at possible career trajectories for him. As academia is not his forte.

MrsMoggs · 02/11/2019 13:41

DD starts her Xmas job soon, so we went for a sneaky sniff around another store, to see what the Christmas big sellers might be.

Tried YSL Libre for the first time (on paper). First impressions were a bit like how I felt about Gabrielle. Nice orange blossom and citrus, but the whole thing feels a bit too calculated, like the primary design goal was to appeal to a lot of people.

Gucci's Memoire d'Une Odeur isn't guilty of this, but perhaps makes too big a deal of that? I only tried it on paper and it was an unusual herbal/mineral whisper that I strained to hear. Think I need to try it sprayed on skin. On paper it was clearly trying hard not to be a typical high street perfume. But I'm not sure if it was saying anything else? Has anyone else tried? Very attractive bottle and I rarely notice.

The best thing I tried was Mugler Cologne (Come Together). Think this is a reissue of the original TM Cologne?

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 02/11/2019 15:12

The Gucci sounds interesting, MrsM. Is that the one with Harry Styles in the advert?

Right - Bond No. 9 - who has experience of this house? There's an ebay seller who has lots of 5ml decants at a reasonable price and I'm quite tempted to give some a whirl. I've never tried anything from this house as it's always seemed (snob alert!) a bit gimmicky but surely there must be some good stuff in the line?

MrsMoggs · 02/11/2019 15:27

You need Chinatown Maud! I need some too - my sample is almost gone. Interesting waxy floriental. Gentle but quite unlike anything else.

MrsMoggs · 02/11/2019 15:27

Haven't seen the advert yet.

Dlpdep · 02/11/2019 19:53

Today I received a much longed for and lusted after sample of Chanel coromandel. I’m really underwhelmed by it. It’s a very familiar scent, very similar to obsession and maybe Shalimar. It is perfectly presentable but no way would I shell out for a whole bottle of it.

Hoooo · 02/11/2019 20:16

I felt the same dip

Hoooo · 02/11/2019 22:00

MotherOfDragonite · 03/11/2019 07:39

SOTD yesterday was Commodity Gold, which is actually surprisingly nice in this cold weather, it brings out the slight incense note.

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 03/11/2019 10:01

SOTD is Traversee du Bosphore. This is so clever and beautiful. Sweet red apple, iris, turkish delight and the softest suede. Manages to be complex and intriguing yet also supremely undemanding; another Duchaufour masterpiece, imo.

MrsMoggs · 03/11/2019 10:18

Coromandel would still make my desert island list.

I haven't thought about this for a while. Think (today!) the other 7 would be:

Traversee du Bosphore
Sahara Noir
Vintage Femme
Vintage L'Heure Bleue
Vintage Cabochard
Eau du Sud
Yatagan

MotherOfDragonite · 03/11/2019 10:21

SOTD is Midnight in the Palace Gardens. Bizarrely not as good in winter as I thought it might be, it has a sort of slightly oily undertone in the cold. Smoky Midnight starts more like that but then the smoky notes work better in the cold weather as it wears on (but I'm not wearing it today).

Hoooo · 03/11/2019 10:23

Today mine would be:
Mmm By the fireplace
AT LADDM
4160 extra sexiest scent on the planet ever
Avon timeless
Obsession
EL knowing
EL modern muse nuit
Prosody mocha

Hoooo · 03/11/2019 10:25

MotherOfDragonite · 03/11/2019 10:28

Eight perfume choices for the desert island, eh... Grin

I'm still relatively uneducated but my desert island top eight at the moment would be:

  1. Monyette Paris
  2. Shangri La - Hiram Green
  3. Midnight in the Palace Gardens - 4160 Tuesdays
  4. Le Pamplemousse - Miller Harris
  5. Oud Mood - Lattafa
  6. Captured By Candlelight - 4160 Tuesdays
  7. India - Marina Barcenilla
  8. Eau Duelle - Diptyque
MotherOfDragonite · 03/11/2019 10:29

I adore LADDM and it's amazingly emotionally resonant, so it's weird not to put it on this list, but I find I don't reach for it that often.

Hoooo · 03/11/2019 10:44

I have a few like that tbh mother
Love them but...not ones I wear often.
Has a decision been made re: perfumed advent this year??
I realise it's a big admin job and totally understand if it's not possible but I'm in if it is :)

MotherOfDragonite · 03/11/2019 11:08

What is perfumed advent?!

teta · 03/11/2019 11:31

@Mother it was an online advent calendar with windows we could open. We each swopped two blind samples and opened and reviewed when it was our window.
Umm.....top ten desert island perfumes.

Cristalle edp.
Fleur du matin by Miller Harris.
Wrappings by Clinique.
Patchouli Clouds by Marina Barcenilla.
The Perfume Garden by Marina Barcenilla.
Eau d’iparie by L’Occitane.
Papillon Tobacco Rose.
Nerolia Bianca by Guerlain.
California Reverie by Van Cleef & Arpels.
Use Rose by Frederick Malle.

Patchouli Clouds today for more eBaying. But I’m hooked on Unbelievable. The acting is just so good - love the Toni Collette character. I may not do anything else today.

MrsMoggs · 03/11/2019 11:41

Think so far we may be the only ones in Hooo? Can we drum up anymore interest?

Hoooo · 03/11/2019 11:50

Oh it was great fun :)
Loved reading the reviews
