I may have dabt too...

I've pre ordered the 4160 autumm crowdfunder :)

teta · 16/10/2019 15:14

Just had to drive 2 miles home on a flat tyre driving very slowly.
There were numerous diversions to dd2 school, so I was late, she was stroppy and we were behind numerous tractors. Anyway we got to the garage, replaced the tyre, only to find all of them need replacing due to car being misaligned.
I'm just relieved I didn't have to change a tyre........
Glad your family are better @MotherOfDragonite.
I'm debating doing a bad thing, buy have sensibly ordered a sample instead. I'm thinking about Azuree, does anyone have it?
What's it like? I love Private Collection but dislike Knowing and don't like most Estee lauders so its a bit of a risk.

MrsMoggs · 16/10/2019 20:43

Evening All!

Teta - I have some vintage Azuree. It's a strong, clean leather, with quite a crisp, invigorating herbal undertow and a soapy mossy base (although the aromatics sort of nod to the cola accord in Youth Dew in the first half hour). I fear the top notes are shot in my bottle, so I miss the citrus opening Sad.

Probably easiest to describe it against other leathers. It's not as smoky or skanky dirty as Cabochard. Empreinte is softer (suede) and a more sensuous, with a fruit note in its opening, although it grows slightly more alike as they evolve. Etui Noir is a chillier more incensy leather and my new fave, Richard James Saville Row, is a more floral leather with quite a long chamomile/pineapple stage.

Perhaps Azuree is closest in spirit to Yatagan, although that has a much fresher dark green forest quality.

I now really stink of leather Grin.

Evening- back on the frgrance after several days of that evil cold, yay! Good to see a few other poorly Perfumistas are also on the mend.

DABT after a Brexit /exporting session for businesses in Manchester, visit to Selfridges as I needed cheering up! It's my birthday Friday so got myself a 10ml of Portrait of a Lady, plus a hefty dose of free samples. I had been nursing the dregs of a previous POAL sample, so have emptied that onto myself tonight Grin

Hoooo · 16/10/2019 21:04

Excellent :)

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 16/10/2019 21:21

cant I am also in POAL today. I bought 30ml with money I got from MIL for my birthday - v generous of her. Has anyone watched the Stacey Dooley Sleeps Over programmes? In one the lady of the house - who is actually a proper gentry type - asks what perfume she is wearing, and it is POAL.

Ooh interesting! I do love it; am generally a big fan of rose scents in pretty much all forms but this is one I wouldn't want to be without.

Also got my nose on the new one, Rose and Cuir, which wasn't at all what I expected. Heavy on the Vetiver and Geranium, but struggled to get any leather from it? Have brought a sample home with me - I like it but yes, very different than I expected.

midcenturylegs · 16/10/2019 22:36

Hi all..

I feel a bit worried about writing this as am afraid I may appear a scammer as I only joined this thread a few weeks' ago. But just on stating earlier that I liked Jonathan Midgeley (a friend, who passed in 2016 sadly)'s perfumes, I found out that I've access to a whole lot of my favourite of his. I can't have his perfumes (he's in Oz, me in London) shipped to me - for obvs reasons, but I am going home to Oz for Xmas, and as I did last time I flew home, asked this niche stockist if he could post some to my parents' house to bring back to the UK. The owner of the stockist (a surf shop, J designed a perfume to replicate the South Pacific musical (think surf boards, I'm going to wash that man right out of my hair etc)) told me that he had loads left and he was going to retire/wind down his shop so did I want to buy a lot? (He also a friend of J's - who made the perfume specifically for the store). If anyone is interested in checking all of this out;
www.damaskperfumery.com.au/fragrantfacts.php?pag_id=35
www.facebook.com/pg/almorasurf/posts/
I'm just a random internet person to you, but, could I sell this in the UK? J indeed had issues commercialising his perfumes; there's no way I could! His Torokina perfume is the most amazing in the world. I don't quite know how to describe it.. but I say it outranks anything I've smelt in Le Senseurs. I almost feel like having a Tupperware-style Torokina party Hmm. What do you think I should do? Just buy loads and wear that scent for the rest of my life? Gift a bottle to anyone who says "I love that!". This perfume will go to waste..

Again I'm seriously not doing a sales pitch (please check my posting history, don't judge me on my feminist rants though please). Just was after pragmatic advice. Part of me wants to hoard the whole lot but J's legacy needs to live on.

midcenturylegs · 16/10/2019 22:46

Ah.. I should just give it away. That's what Jonathan would have wanted!
(Not emotional at all...)

We may be filled with despair, but we smell utterly divine. It’s the Lovely Friendly Perfumistas - thread 23. All welcome!
Judystilldreamsofhorses · 16/10/2019 23:56

mid so sorry to hear about your friend. I’ve never come across his perfumes before, are they well known in terms of you being able to sell them? (I am probably just really ignorant!) I think perfume sells well on eBay, and there are numerous groups online where people sell and swap. If they are not well known you might consider selling decants. I am well known for a blind buy around these parts, but they do tend to be things I have researched and have a gut feeling I will love based on descriptions. If I feel something is a risk I will buy five or ten mls rather than a full bottle.

midcenturylegs · 17/10/2019 00:26

Hey Judy - thanks for replying. Was thinking I may have alienated fellow perfume-lovers!

No, he's not known at all unless you are Aussie and really in to perfume and perhaps live in Queensland. He did some weird stuff like concoct the smell of dugong (sea cow) poo for a zoo, completely crazy yet lovely man.
I'm not sure the surf shop have any samples (I've just asked, but, again, he can't post stuff to the UK). It is really tricky as I'm not able to describe the perfume re base notes etc. But I think it's a bit of a mix of Ambre Sultan and Feminite Du Bois (Lutens). Um, the base notes of the former but then the lingering top notes of the latter? I have asked the surf shop owner to give me a proper description though!
I have decided I will give up the idea of selling. . It does feel wrong, esp as J gave me quite a few freebies in his time. I'll hoard it, as Brexiteers are doing with baked beans :-) Any ideas how to keep perfume for ages btw?
Anyway, I won't have the perfume until when I get back from Oz (Jan when school goes back.. DD will be missing 2 days of school - whoops) so it's quite a way off. I'll probably buy 6 or 7 bottles, I may see if a couple of people want a bottle who like the sound of it, if they don't like it send it to someone who might? For free I should add.
2 SOTDs were this morning Perles de Lalique and this evening Mitsouko. The latter I remember my Mum spraying herself 35 years ago at her dressing table getting ready to go out, it brings back v mixed memories.

Sorry for looking like someone to just sell stuff! Off to bed, if anyone could propose new scents in line with the ones above that'd be great :-)

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 17/10/2019 01:06

That sounds amazing, mid - I think you will have a queue from this thread if you are willing to decant! And please don’t worry about looking like a salesperson, you don’t. I am on holiday just now, so pottering about late, people are just in bed.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 17/10/2019 01:09

Oh, and keep it boxed, out of direct sunlight. I keep everything in boxes, and samples in a big lidded box, in a shelved alcove well away from our bedroom window.

Lotsofpots · 17/10/2019 06:36

mid I'm sorry to hear about your friend. And just to reassure you, you don't sound like a scammer!
Agree that your description of sounds amazing, you'll definitely have interest here in trying it!

SOTD will likely be sexiest scent.

Hoooo · 17/10/2019 08:28

Sorry for ypir loss mid

MotherOfDragonite · 17/10/2019 12:41

Sorry to hear about your friend, mid. How lovely to be able to remember them with a scent that reminds you of them. I'm sure other people will be interested. Maybe figure out what the notes in it are?

SOTD is the honey monster edition of Centrepiece. It's luscious and very powerful.

midcenturylegs · 17/10/2019 19:00

Hi all you lovely lot! So Mr Surf shop is going to give me the blurb on the notes etc. So I'll post that in Jan when back and will decant (although will then need help on how to do that!). @Judystilldreamsofhorses thanks for saying that :-) @Lotsofpots what is your SOTD like? Haven't heard of it.
Wondering if anyone here has used the Lampe Berger room fragrances & burners. Their are specific ones for removing animal, toilet and tobacco smells (as well as purifying the air, used in hospitals etc). Not personal scents but I've just bought the animal one to get rid of my indoor cat litter tray smell - 🤢
Apparently the perfumes are designed by French perfumers?

midcenturylegs · 17/10/2019 19:01

There not their..

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 17/10/2019 23:24

SOTD MMM Sunday Morning, for tea with an old friend which was so lovely.

mid we will all be excited to sample your late friend’s perfume. No idea about your home fragrances, but I was alarmed to receive a sample of VIPoo in the Sainsbury’s delivery last night.

DP got home late last night, I am so pleased to have him back. He had to go into the office today so it was a treat not to have cat-face jumping on my head at 6.30am looking for her breakfast. It has not been a restful start to the October holiday. She will generally settle down and sleep with me for a bit, but she sleeps on me, and is heavy.

Morning all, hope everyone is well? Can anyone help with suggestions for scents for men? I want to do diy crackers this year and my plan is to order some of the small roll ons for the adults. I know what to get DM and MIL but stuck on ideas for DH, DF and FIL.

DH - favourite smell for him used to be Ralph Lauren Polo Double Black but I think the formulation has changed and the PP version is no good. Something along those lines would be good though, warm, spicy/peppery where you just want to bury your nose in their neck Blush

DF - likes trying new things, not averse to a unisex scent and currently wears JM White Fig and Cassis that I bought for myself but it smells ten times better on him! He's also partial to Hugo Boss scents.

FIL - I don't even know if he wears aftershave so I might get something else for him but suggestions for light, fresh smells would be good.

Thanks in advance Grin

Hoooo · 19/10/2019 09:43

For dh: obsession for men :)

teta · 19/10/2019 10:18

Sotd is Patchouli Clouds . I'm on cake making duty today for my dad's second 80th birthday celebration tomorrow. So I'm bringing Chicken Coriander and a Thai Mango, cream and Coconut cake. It was delicious last time dd2 made it for dd1 birthday so let's hope it works for me too.
@Bodyonme I'm sorry I can't help as none of the men in my life wear anything scented sadly.
@Judystilldreamsofhorses the ViPoo thing is really funny!
@midcenturylegs yes I would be up for trialing those perfumes. They sound great and I would be especially in interested in anything featuring Ambergris, Myrrh and Frankincense.

Hoooo · 19/10/2019 10:23

Dh out with a friend today
Dc at pils
I did all the cleaning yesterday so I'm off to see mum soon

ClientListQueen · 19/10/2019 11:08

£5 TK bargain. I smell like sweets and gingerbread

MotherOfDragonite · 19/10/2019 12:34

Sorry body, I can't help no men in my life so no idea! I would totally date somebody who wore LADDM or ACDD though. But those are too pricey for stocking stuffers I'd totally keep them for myself--

SOTD is Al Haramain Tanasuk. Sweet and girlish for a spot of house cleaning. Where is my grimace emoji?!
