Not been on here in a while, have had a lovely holiday to Dubrovnik and a few days off work day tripping. Now that the weather is turning I'm resuming my long-lasting hunt for my perfect Ambery scent. A decant of Giorgio Armani Prive- Ambre Eccentrico could be it- shame a full bottle is £150!

Hoooo I had a 9ml of Over the Chocolate Shop and I love it, but I do love a gourmand. It's not crazy sweet, I get the coffee note quite strongly throughout. Will be buying more for Winter.

SOTD was Samsara. Considering the PP By the Fireplace after a nice bath Smile

Hoooo · 17/09/2019 20:30

Ah, a fellow amber lover can't!?
Do you have amberama, amber mambo or amber woods? I love all 3 of them :)

You MUST get some avon timeless! It's £5 a bottle! I'm rather fond of HdeP ambre 114 and LadeP amber extreme.

How was dubrovnik? I'd love to go.

MrsMoggs · 17/09/2019 20:51

Amber list:

Ambre Sultan (Serge Lutens)
Amber Absolute(Tom Ford)
Ambre (L'Occitane)
L'Eau d'Ambre (L'Artisan)
Ambre Fetiche (Annick Goutal)
Ambre Loup (Rania J)
Amber (Halston)

Plus Coco, Opium and L'AdDM Smile.

With thanks to a lovely Northern Perfumista who kitted me out with several wonderful ambers, including long lost fragrances from my youth. (Not sure if she posts/reads anymore but her kindness and beautiful fragrances continue to be a great source of inspiration and pleasure. NCs make things so complicated...).

Hoooo · 17/09/2019 20:52

Oh, eau de ambre - that's right! Forgot that one :)
I'd also add library of fragrance amber too

teta · 17/09/2019 20:53

Very vociferous tawny owls out here tonight. I think September is when they're particularly noisy.
Yes. Mrs Moggs I get the sudden anger and boiling over. I used to be pretty calm and laid back.

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 17/09/2019 21:06

Mother - Tauer Miriam is a wonderful, very old-school, powdery aldehyde with roses and iris and violets. Not sweet, really, more musky and with that very slight 'unwashed sheets' vibe that I really love Grin

It reminds me very much of Habanita, if you have sniffed that, although it's much softer, far less in-your-face. It is absolutely, unapologetically 'vintage'.

Sadly, like my other favourite Tauer, it's discontinued.

Bodyonme · 17/09/2019 21:21

I've had a look hooo but I don't really have much in that vein. I searched on fragrantica for winter fragrances and the only ones I have out of the many suggestions are armani code and versace bright crystal but I doubt they'd be your kind of thing. I agree with judy that you'd like Jazz Club but I can't part with that I'm afraid, I love it too much! So I think you should give the Eau d'Hadrien a different home, or sell it on ebay!

Glad you liked Jazz Club judy, I'm having to ration myself with it as I want to wear it all the time!

Hoooo · 17/09/2019 21:44

I tried jazz club. Its ok but I'm not raving.

cantbelievemyeyes · 17/09/2019 22:01

I've tried and liked Amberama and Ambre 114 Hooo but not the others. Main ones I've tried recently:

Serge Ambre Sultan
Hermes L'Ambre des Merveilles and Ambre Narguile
VC&A Ambre Imperial
Parfums D'Empire Ambre Russe
GA Ambre Eccentrico.

The last three are easily my favourites but would love something cheaper. May give Timeless a try, thank you.

Dubrovnik was brilliant thanks- second visit and will definitely go back in a few years. So much to see, great for wandering and lots of good wine and seafood...

cantbelievemyeyes · 17/09/2019 22:23

Thanks also MrsMoggs, am dying to try Ambre Loup. May order a sample from Jovoy actually.

I forgot I also have MFK Grand Soir which is excellent, but still feel like it's missing something...

Calmasasleepycat · 17/09/2019 22:59

Another couple of ambers I have are Ambre de Cabochard and Lentheric Amber. The latter is a vintage in excellent condition, but I can’t find out how old it is, as the batch code doesn’t work in any of the checkers I can find online.

Hooo, I have a little sample of Over the Chocolate Shop somewhere, but can’t find it! I didn’t like it as much as Silk, Lace and Chocolate, but meant to try it again in colder weather.

Maud and Mother, I shall definitely be visiting Les Senteurs to buy a bottle of Au Coeur du Desert and have a sampling session. I would be interested in cake afterwards! The Peggy Porschen Shop sounds amazing. However, I have commitments until the end of October, so would need to leave it until November.

MrsMoggs · 17/09/2019 23:09

I think the L'Occitane is an excellent, classic amber. They discontinued it a few years ago, then brought it back. I haven't tried the reissue, but its meant to be very similar.

MrsMoggs · 18/09/2019 00:09

Hooo - tried to message you.

Hoooo · 18/09/2019 07:23

Messaged you back mrsm x

FloofyCatDoesTerriblyBadThings · 18/09/2019 08:35

Hello cant! This thread is making me want to explore Amber scents, clearly a terribly lacking gap in my collection presently that needs rectifying with lots and lots of Bad Things Smile

I think I have a jazz club sample somewhere if anyone hasn't tried it, PM me if so? It wasn't for me as it just made me feel like a hairy man in a shower for some reason Grin

The weather here seems to be on the turn to Autumnal - you could see your breath this morning! I think it's nearly time to sort out clothes and perfume Haven't decided on SOTD yet due to the above.

I've always had a terrible temper and swearing habit Blush so I can't blame the menopause, I'm worried this will get even worse now! teta I always forget what I'm wearing if I'm trying a sample etc, now I leave it under my mirror so I know. My working memory is appalling atm to the point I'm not allowed to cook alone and my house is full of reminder post it notes (it resembles the flat with all the magic trees in Se7en, if anyone remembers that film!)

The one benefit however is I forget not only what I've tried but what I've ordered Wink so my Bad Things are always a nice surprise when they arrive. I am currently assembling samples for advent calendars

Now, has anyone heard of the new visible fragrance? I'm torn between thinking "wanky" and "very exciting" Confused

teta · 18/09/2019 09:37

Mito today and I'm in love. Galbanum and Oakmoss notes are my all time favourites. It is very like a modernised less brash Private Collection though.
I'm intrigued by all the talk of Amber's here. I'm not really an Amber lover and as I find them all too sugary. But I love Profumum Roma's Ambra Aurea as the sweetness is offset by the bitterness of the Myrrh. In fact I love bitter Myrrh in almost any perfume 😁

Hoooo · 18/09/2019 12:01

Well.

I'm waiting to see the dr.

Think I've ruptured my achilles tendon.

Ffs.

MotherOfDragonite · 18/09/2019 13:42

Oh hooo! I'm so sorry! I will keep my fingers crossed that it's not as bad as it feels.

teta, Mito sounds gorgeous. But looks like it is unavailable/OOS everywhere? I'd order a sample, because I think I have similar tastes to you, but I don't want to fall in love with something I can never have!

SOTD is Lattafa Oud Mood again. Think I'm hooked. This was the best £12 bargain ever.

MotherOfDragonite · 18/09/2019 13:43

Calm, I'd definitely be up for a Les Senteurs and cake trip in November if you and others were thinking of such a thing...

Hoooo · 18/09/2019 15:32

Apparently its shredded, not separated??
Bloody painful :(

clucky3 · 18/09/2019 15:57

Hi all, I'm hoping you knowledgeable folks will be able to help me... I've bought what claims to be a vintage Chanel no 19 EDT on eBay. Does anyone know whether there is a way to establish whether it is indeed vintage?

Hoooo · 18/09/2019 15:59

There are websites - try fragrance checker

clucky3 · 18/09/2019 16:11

Thanks, I will do

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 18/09/2019 17:19

mother, calm, I'd be up for that, definitely Cake

teta · 18/09/2019 17:36

Me too !
