I couldn't think of anything worse than a hot holiday destination with a young baby.

Perhaps they're acclimatising him for a life in California!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 25/08/2019 10:15

Yeah, but who would have him.?
I think he will just lay low amongst the Royal palaces and wealthy friends. ( I think it will be the end of his Pitch@thePalace initiative.)
How can anyone take him seriously after this débâcle.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 25/08/2019 10:17

Or South Africa.

AnnaMagnani · 25/08/2019 10:18

Anne and the Wessexes actually do something useful for the RF though.

Am wondering if all the talk of 'slimming down' which has happened for years was because Charles always knew Andrew was a liability.

After all the stories mentioning he is the patron of over 200 charities and organisations, I went to the Royal Family website to have a look what they are. Once you take out all the golf and sailing clubs, you aren't left with that much TBH.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 25/08/2019 10:23

Who on earth will do all the mind numbing engagements that the Kents and Gloucester’s carry out?
Poor old Sophie will be cutting ribbons till her 90s. I guess as her children are still at school, she has a bit more capacity.

I suspect the Cambridges will be more UK and do big tours as P&PofW and the Sussexes will do more of the Commonwealth, and possibly be based in one of those countries, given their roles as Commonwealth youth ambassadors. Given the whole Brexit situation; strengthening this ties will become more important.

Also, Prince Charles has said he and Camilla will remain in Clarence House, so Buckingham Palace will probably not be a Monarch’s home again, from a few apartments for the likes of the Wessexes who do not have a London base.

AppleKatie · 25/08/2019 10:26

From my sketchy knowledge of the Crown don’t they all say they aren’t going to use Buckingham palace... and then do anyway.

BertrandRussell · 25/08/2019 10:27

“ Remember 4 yo Prince Charles bring left for months with the QM?
I would say Princess Anne has been the first of the most normal Royal”

But that was normal parenting for people of that class at the time. Nobody would have thought twice about it.

hopeishere · 25/08/2019 10:34

I think the slimming down stuff was a reaction to Andrew wanting a role / police protection for his daughters as they are "blood princesses" (I hate that expression).

Technically Harry and Meghan should be the ribbon cutters but they are trying to make a bigger platform for their causes. If W and H don't make it up and come to an agreement I could see the Sussexs being frozen out and sidelined in the future.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 25/08/2019 10:37

But that was normal parenting for people of that class at the time. Nobody would have thought twice about it.

But that doesn’t mean they weren’t affected by it.

The Queen was interviewed fairly recently about her coronation day, and the interviewer asked what her children were doing that day. HM said «I have absolutely no idea»
Just seemed weird that she would not have even been curious to ask.

beanaseireann · 25/08/2019 10:52

I've just read in the Irish Times that Prince Pierre Casiraghi of Monaco is the captain of the boat child climate activist Greta Thunberg is sailing on to the UN Climate Summit in New York.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 25/08/2019 11:03

That’s interesting @beanaseireann
(Although I’m sure he’s actually a Prince)
Are they still crossing the Atlantic? It was supposed to take 2 weeks.

Daisypie · 25/08/2019 11:09

Greta tweeted today they are nearing Newfoundland.

MoreProseccoNow · 25/08/2019 11:57

I feel that the RF haven't really modernised much, or adapted to recent societal changes.

A generation ago, the "hangers-on", had a rather nice life, essentially being funded for minimal contribution. There was a real sense of entitlement.

Nowadays, in times of recessions, cuts and austerity, this isn't socially acceptable. But they haven't evolved.

Beyond the Wessexes & PA, they really are surplus.

I can see M&H are acknowledging this & trying to evolve, to find a nice with the right balance of charity work versus commercialism. They will be criticised no matter what they do.

The biggest pull for the RF is Kate Cambridge. She really is an ambassador & has fine-tuned her role to a T. She is more popular than her husband (and I suspect more engaging & stable).

paradyning · 25/08/2019 13:02

That beach shot is W&K just after they wed on an Anglesey beach. Not a recent photo

I've noticed today though that Charles always has his window open when the paps are doing there Church run shots. Either Cams is still hot flushing or he is making sure the photographers get a good shot.

banivani · 25/08/2019 13:04

I already told you all Pierre was on the boat [feels unloved]

Wink
paradyning · 25/08/2019 13:04

Kate looks dresses for Winter today. Is it freezing in Aberdeenshire today anyone know?

BertrandRussell · 25/08/2019 13:06

“The biggest pull for the RF is Kate Cambridge. She really is an ambassador & has fine-tuned her role to a T. ”
Extraordinary isn’t it? She’s the blandest woman on the planet but that’s what people seem to like....

paradyning · 25/08/2019 13:10

I noticed your post Banivani!

justasking111 · 25/08/2019 13:13

That kiss in Wales, you know the welsh left them alone and were protective of them could smell the paps. and cold shouldered them. I think the Queen and Philip had similar privacy in Malta. So maybe Harry and Meghan should find somewhere abroad to bed in their marriage so to speak.

Lisette1940 · 25/08/2019 13:15

It's warm in Aberdeen. Don't know about further out.

banivani · 25/08/2019 13:24

I noticed your post Banivani 😘

I’m still wondering about the toilet arrangements on that boat.

UrsulaPandress · 25/08/2019 13:35

It’s a bucket I think. A bit like at Leeds Festival but less smelly.

derxa · 25/08/2019 13:36

.

drquin · 25/08/2019 13:36

@lavenderandthyme no great big walls around Balmoral, just 50,000 acres of the finest Scottish scenery & countryside. Admittedly lots of security, much of which you'll not necessarily see. But unfortunately lots of ways a photographer with long lens could get photos. And I will put money on it being a "photographer" rather than a local ..... locals tend to treat them as neighbours in terms of privacy.

justasking111 · 25/08/2019 13:38

The visits to Balmoral are like a revolving door with everyone taking turns to be at church and stay at Balmoral. Guess Harry and Meghan will be the last visitors if they attend.
