Styled by Susie - anyone done it?

Hi all, I've been following the tribe group on Facebook for a while but just wondering if anyone here has tried it. I can't seem to get to the bottom of what they advise, seasons etc. Is there something similar closer to London. And she keeps advising chunky trainers, is this a thing now?

My friend and I both got a gold analysis each a few months ago by one of the new stylists after seeing MN recommendations. The analysis we each got were ‘cut and paste’ - sentences exactly the same. The PDF guides were rubbish, spelling mistakes, the colour swatches badly pixilated so difficult to use as a reference, a lot of duplication and a few contradictory comments (“don’t wear x”, then in the shopping list, where to buy x Hmm ). The FB group moderators aren’t very pleasant and the ‘down to earth’ persona feels really false with all the recruiting of stylists, planted PR stories duly reposted by admin/ followers. Guess she’s building an empire but I think it was a complete waste of money.

graingers · 09/02/2020 07:41

Funny how just as this thread pops up again, she posts a couple of testimonials from REALLY HAPPY SMILING CLIENTS on her Instagram feed Hmm

The planted PR stories were what initially made me realise the 'I'm doing this to empower women!' tagline was bollocks. She likes to put herself across as altruistic but in reality, all she's doing is promoting herself. It's really sad, actually.

ilovecherries · 09/02/2020 07:54

I don’t really have an issue with self promotion. She’s a business, and that’s what businesses do. Some of the PR stuff is pretty cheesy, but it probably works fairly effectively. I don’t expect her to be doing it for free, and I like the fact that it’s not a steady stream of #gifted. So she needs to make money from somewhere - although people talk about JL doing it for free, I doubt very much it’s from the goodness of their hearts - they will know that services like their’s will lead to sales.

My disappointment was about the quality of the service, which for me, wasn’t impressive. But other people (and I don’t believe they are plants), feel differently.

RNBrie · 09/02/2020 08:14

I had the gold package online analysis and was pretty disappointed too. I'd asked for help with a specific item and that was just ignored. The majority of what you get back are PDFs that are for "your" colour and shape but nothing specific to you.

graingers · 09/02/2020 09:42

@ilovecherries I totally agree, and you're absolutely right that businesses need to promote themselves. It's just the way she goes about it that I find really unsettling.

For example the recent invite to some fashion event she turned down because she had a personal shop booked; she made a big song and dance about how she wasn't going because she'd never ever let a client down etc etc. Just don't go then?! Don't mention the declined invitation. No need to shout it from the rooftops to show how utterly unselfish you are.

fitbciz1 · 09/02/2020 09:47

I had this done a while ago when I was feeling very uninspired about clothes and was also disappointed. The first clue was how short and generic the questionnaire is. They got my colours right, but then somehow decided that I'm an hourglass. I have no waist, no hips and shoulders a cross channel swimmer could be proud of. Do they just tell everyone they're an hourglass because it's supposed to be the ideal?

ilovecherries · 09/02/2020 10:13

grainger that fashion show thing really pissed me off as well. My dd and I both have businesses and she is also on the FB group. She pointed it out to me and said ‘surely that’s just about doing the right thing in business, not boasting about how special it makes you’. Plus all the sycophantic ‘you’re are so wonderful for doing that’ comments made me puke. It’s just called honouring your commitments, you don’t get a medal for it! I’d forgotten about that, and how it made me a bit ranty! 😂

MabelMoo23 · 09/02/2020 10:19

I think for me, the hype has worn off it now and it feels a bit samey. I was really wanting to do the personal shop but being so underwhelmed by the online shop I’m feeling a bit “meh” now and I know I’m definitely not missing out

Unmentionablesandfluff · 09/02/2020 10:20

@graingers I saw that too, and thought it was pathetic, especially when everyone joined in to say she should have gone, how selfless she was for not letting the client down.

@ilovecherries she is making money - from the shops and analysis cut&paste jobs.

For anyone who hasn’t done it, they’re poorly written and designed, they remind of my homework at 14. If I had known we were going to get a cut&paste analysis plus 5 short PDFs (4 pages each, maybe 300 words of text and a dozen photos, some information contradicts each other), I would have saved my money. You’re given the impression that the Analysis is very bespoke, but it’s not.

I love that they make a point of including copyright notices on each PDF but use photos clearly copied from the web without credit including celebrities.

vintagechick43 · 09/02/2020 10:22

I was really disappointed with my analysis, I was told I'm a spring when I'm sure I'm an autumn. I'm pale with reddish brown hair and blue eyes. Also told that I'm a pear shaped even though my hips and shoulders are the same width, oh yes and I also got the "wow what a tiny waist you have".

LightOfAThousandStars · 09/02/2020 12:30

The Hair Analysis isn't much better to be honest, I recently got it thinking I would get advice on my own particular face shape and what cuts work for that face shape including a few different styles but not surprisingly it said to just get a "blunt bob" with no explanation as to why or any other options and looking on the FB group a lot of people have been recommended a blunt bob Hmm. I guess I should have known better too and just asked my own hairdresser what would suit me.

PatchworkElmer · 09/02/2020 13:14

Thank you for this thread- I was debating but I think I’ll try John Lewis instead for now.

Absolutechaos · 09/02/2020 13:32

I agree, the whole service is very underwhelming and a waste of money. Everything is cut and paste (and in my case the shape analysis was wrong). No way to give constructive feedback, let alone negative. Let's hope people check this thread before parting with their money - no chance of getting a balanced view from the completely censored FB group!

ToManderleyAgain · 09/02/2020 13:42

I already know my colours and shape but was considering whether the jeans links, recommended clothes shops, and make-up colours info might be worthwhile. Can anyone comment on how helpful they found those?

KitNCaboodle · 09/02/2020 15:24

I’m waiting for my analysis. My colours I’m unsure of so looking forward to what will be recommended. I was expecting a cut and paste job for some of it but disappointed to hear about contradictions.

I tried to post a question on the fb page a few weeks back and it was declined. Reading this thread I can see I’m not the only one. Maybe I should have blown some smoke up her arse to get it approved.

autumnhare · 09/02/2020 15:30

I've had an analysis and am in two minds. I was surprised that I was analysed as a cool winter tone as I tan very easily and quickly so didn't think it was possible. However, the jewellery and some of the makeup colours suggested do seem to complement my skin and I kind of thought that they're the experts not me so they know better.

My body analysis surprised me too and have been less impressed with. I always used to try to draw attention to my waist, the smallest part of me and would get compliments when I did this. But my analysis advises me to draw the eye away from my middle area and down to my legs which I'm not sure suits me that much - I have chunky legs Grin

As previous posters have said, it's a lot of money for essentially a few PDF documents and I can see if you were in a real rut that it would be helpful but I'm just a bit 'meh' about it all, I use some aspects and not others.

I do quite like the Facebook group but the admin are extremely militant and it feels quite false at times.

autumnhare · 09/02/2020 15:33

That said, it's hard when you don't know about colours and body shapes yourself so you kind of have to put faith in the 'experts' and trust that their analysis is right. I almost feel like I want to get a second opinion 😂

RNBrie · 09/02/2020 15:52

@ToManderleyAgain The jeans PDF is generic. Links to mom jeans on river island/top shop/next and a list of similar places to buy skinnies. Nothing I hadn't already seen.

The clothes shops listed standard high street plus a couple I haven't heard of and I bought a couple of bits from those sites but nothing suited me so I returned it all Grin

HisBetterHalf · 09/02/2020 18:28

The FB page seems very much a clone group. Everyone wearing long dresses with a jumper, chunky trainers, mom jeans, leather jacket and every hair analysis just seems to be a bob. Very uninspiring and everyone dressing the same regardless of shape.

Sagradafamiliar · 09/02/2020 18:46

She doesn't come across very nice, ages ago when I still on FB I joined the group (before realising it wasn't for me) and someone had put a photo up and said they'd love to see what Susie would think of it and Susie took the time to comment that she can't do personal replies...it would've made the woman's day to have a quick compliment for the same amount of time it took Susie to type, or she needn't have bothered commenting at all Hmm

The sunglasses story was like when people make a thread on here pretending they said something witty on the bus/in the queue/at work and then everyone burst into a round of applause.

She doesn't have a sense of personal style. Imagine Emmanuelle Alt or someone and you can think: classic, minimalist, chic, blazers, crisp t shirts, cigarette trousers, jeans. Where as Susie 'dresses' up sometimes like what she thinks of as 'rock chick', which comes across cringey. Other than that it's all fast fashion, bright tops, high street, what ever is in the three main shops she takes her clients round.

graingers · 09/02/2020 18:46

I'd much rather post an outfit picture on MN, and if I look like shit get told so. Rather than a chorus of OH U LOOK LUVLY HUN.

LightOfAThousandStars · 09/02/2020 19:17

@ToManderleyAgain the personalised shops in my analysis were just a long list of most of the current fast fashion highstreet shops, supermarket clothing lines and a few other boutiques but it wasn't a specific list of just a handful of stores catered to my analysis and did look like a cut and paste job. The jeans links were ok but I already knew which ones suited me by trying them on in different stores and the ones I was wearing were also on my recommended list. I did like the makeup list though, great list of lipsticks that I wouldn't have tried out otherwise and I do waste a lot of money on makeup so it was good to know which ones would work without disappointment. There was also a selection of high end and highsteet lipsticks on there and a blush recommended on mine as well, I wish there was more bronzer/blush suggestions.

yogo · 09/02/2020 19:36

Some of her recent outfit choices are extremely dubious, as are Sarah's.

I actually gasped at one of Susie's and can't imagine for one second how she thought she looked good in it. It was dreadful.

I'm bored of the long dress (put a belt on, hun. Yawn) and the mum jeans are very hit and miss.

I don't like negative comments but please, people need to know if they are being sent out looking that bad.

The fashion show story was a blatant look how great I am brag, I cringed reading it.

HasaDigaEebowai · 09/02/2020 19:53

Hmm. Ive paid for an online analysis which I haven't yet done and Im a bit worried now. I really want to know my colours. I tan very easily and have brown hair which is naturally reddish in the sun and green eyes. Think Ive identified myself online but I want to know for sure.
