Styled by Susie - anyone done it?

Hi all, I've been following the tribe group on Facebook for a while but just wondering if anyone here has tried it. I can't seem to get to the bottom of what they advise, seasons etc. Is there something similar closer to London. And she keeps advising chunky trainers, is this a thing now?

@hasa I found the colours bit quite useful

LightOfAThousandStars · 09/02/2020 20:23

@HasaDigaEebowai I agree, the colour swatches are good and I know better now which shades suit me so it's easier to shop well.

autumnhare · 09/02/2020 20:32

I agree - the colour analysis was the most helpful bit for me and I was not what I expected to be at all. And using the recommendations does seem to brighten my complexion a lot.

Ellapaella · 09/02/2020 20:34

@HasaDigaEebowai I bet you're an autumn 😉

HasaDigaEebowai · 09/02/2020 20:37

I'm expecting to be an autumn so lets see...

ToManderleyAgain · 09/02/2020 20:40

@RNBrie and @LightOfAThousandStars, thank you both, that's really helpful! You can get the make-up suggestions as a separate option for a fiver if you know your season, so I will do that as it sounds worthwhile. But it seems like the S&B board might have better suggestions for specific jeans requirements - so I think I'll check back in here instead when I'm ready to jeans shop.

@Ellapaella and @HasaDigaEebowai - I had been thinking autumn too!

autumnhare · 09/02/2020 20:42

I tan very easily, have mid brown hair with reddy undertones and green eyes and was totally expecting to be an autumn (like what seems like 80% of the fb group 🙈) but came out as winter. I thought it was wrong to begin with but the suggestions actually do seem to suit me!

Unmentionablesandfluff · 09/02/2020 21:14

I’m an Autumn 🍂 Grin

The recommendations weren’t great. I had mentioned my pouch as an area of concern, and the jeggings highlighted it. I tried three of the lipsticks, but they didn’t suit - weird pinky/purples. Mac P for Potent and Heroine. I admired that they tried to go across all budgets though... from a Revolution to Charlotte Tilbury, but there were quite a number from Bourjois which announced months ago they’re discontinued so the guides are dated.

HasaDigaEebowai · 09/02/2020 21:21

I'll report back whether Im joining the Autumn masses...

InglouriousBasterd · 09/02/2020 22:05

I had to unfollow her as I just found her complaining about how much work she has to do and how tough it all is - when she shops for a living, part-time, not conducts brain surgery - a bit rich tbh. I like Sarah though. Also found the same thing with the Facebook page.

I think she’s probably great for when you’re in a rut and need some ideas, but it all feels very generic.

SallieSallow · 10/02/2020 16:51

I’ve joined the Warm Autumn Masses Grin

Agree with most here that it’s super generic, I specifically said I don’t wear costume jewellery due to allergies/irritation but still got all the guff about chunky necklaces and statement earrings Hmm

I’m going to try some of the Warm Autumn colours, there are lot that really don’t appeal to me some did so can’t hurt to try a few bits on and see if they suit.

Shapewise I’m a pear but given I’m two dress sizes smaller on the top than the bottom that was no surprise and I was already following the Pearshaped Rules.

If I’d paid for it (mine was a gift) I would consider it a waste of money but I only had the bronze, I thought the more expensive packages would be better but that doesn’t seem to be the case. And I’ve not joined any groups or followed anyone, I’m not interested in that.

RachelWriggle · 10/02/2020 17:36

I considered this for a fleeting moment but I’ve decided against it. If I do get my colours done I’d like to get them done in person and be “draped” in the fabrics so I can discuss with the stylist what works. Also I look very different in different photos (body shape & colourings) so decided if I do something like this it would need to be in person.

I think for the prices she charges I would realistically expect there to be some degree of copy & paste - if I was paying £35 or so (I think that’s what the online sessions start at but correct me if I’m wrong) I would probably expect her to dedicate about an hour of her time to me, so I wouldn’t expect a highly detailed, bespoke service for that price. But I would expect there to be at least a couple of bespoke sentences.

I checked out the Facebook group a while ago but personally didn’t find any inspiration there, and never saw the point of posting a photo of myself if only positive comments are allowed. I’d rather post on here and be told if I look rubbish, but then I guess I’ve got quite a thick skin.

But lots of people seem to love it & benefit from the Facebook group, so if it’s given women confidence they previously lacked and inspired people then good on them. Different strokes for different folks and all that.....

Unmentionablesandfluff · 11/02/2020 21:24

It could just be my feed, but I’ve noticed an increase in Susie posting more complimentary testimonials. I’m feeling very cynical

graingers · 11/02/2020 21:30

She's all over it.

Fewer contrived bullshit PR stories recently, though.

auniverseofbeaches · 12/02/2020 13:00

I just had my analysis back from SBS. I was finding myself in a real rut, I am trying to deal with a 'new' body shape and other issues.

I have mixed feelings.

The colours were not a surprise, I had already guessed I was autumn. I did like her guidance on how to wear black...I always feel like I am breaking style laws by wearing black (Which is NOT autumn), but she gave some tips on how to balance the black with accessories.

I did find the make-up guide great - I am not very adventurous with bolder make-up and her suggestions (With graphics) were really helpful. I loved the options withing budget groups. But.....as a poster above said...a few were Boujouis which did not help!

I asked some very specific questions about styling. I got one personalised response in the covering email but nothing else at all. This confirmed to me that the .pdf's were cut & paste, no real originality for specific requirements.

The other thing I always struggle with is being 'told' what your style is. Being Parisian Chic or Girl Next Door - surely it isn't mutually exclusive? I have days where I feel slightly more Rock Chick and other days where I am feeling a little more Preppy.

Of course, having said that - it hasn't all been negative. The covering email was very interesting and flattering (Nothing to do with what I had listed as my areas of concern or confidence!). It really boosted my confidence and has made me think about the best way to shop or re-use items in my closet. I wore an outfit yesterday that consisted of clothes I already owned, but worn in a different combination than I would normally dare, and had 3 separate compliments.

I do think that it is over-priced and the facebook page can make me roll my eyes...

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 20/02/2020 14:52

Anyone seen that Susie wrote a blog post claiming that someone "threatened" to post on MN about her?

MabelMoo23 · 20/02/2020 15:56

I noticed that in the blog yesterday

buckeejit · 20/02/2020 17:23

@EmImogen that really sucks, it's immature & such bad service to reply like that.

I've also had my colours & style done already by house of colour & loved it. I follow their ascot stylist on fb as she looks great but I was considering buying a sbs basic package as I'd really like some glasses advice. Glad I didn't now.

Agree I don't think it's possible to accurately assess season online

ClientQueen · 20/02/2020 17:41

@buckeejit this might not work but anyway! I use Boots for my glasses. Went to get some new ones and there's a great, very honest woman there. She looked at what I was trying and went "too similar to your last pair. Wait". Plucked a pair off the stand and went "these. Put them on. Yes. Perfect"
Me ConfusedGrinBlush "er they're not really my thing..."
I got them, and I absolutely love them now. Perfect colour and shape and everyone comments how lovely they are. She seems to have an ability to pick glasses you wouldn't usually wear but look incredible

bohemia14 · 21/02/2020 12:55

I made a comment on a post on their Facebook page saying that I was surprised at the season the person had been analysed as. I said nothing negative and complemented the person on the jumper that they were wearing but my post was removed. I feel annoyed as i wasn't negative just had a slightly different opinion. There's absolutely no point in people asking for opinions if they're censored so much.

Hannahlouise4026 · 23/02/2020 23:30

I had to leave the fb group after after a few days as I came to realise that no honest/alternative suggestions are ever posted. Some outfits that people post really don’t so anything for their shape, but everyone just posts the same “amazing hun” response. The advise seems the same for everyone...and seems 90% of people are ‘Autumn’
Some of the advise seems dubious and the same regardless of size/shape. Doc martins, midi skirt, denim biker. Tuck top into jeans...seriously unflattering if like me you’ve got a.. ahem..’gunt’ post child situation like myself 😬
It made me a bit miffed that people would ask if a certain item they liked was a suitable colour for them based on their analysis and that they would get rid of clothes they already had based on the fact the colour isn’t what SBS recommend, like they are some sort of authority!

Spam88 · 24/02/2020 09:02

I watched a few videos on YouTube by Justine Leconte about working out your season etc - very straightforward! Just in case anyone fancied trying that as an alternative to getting an analysis by SBS :) I was surprised I came out as a light summer, I always assumed my pinkness meant I had a warm undertone.

potionmaking · 25/02/2020 20:04

I saw that comment on her blog.

I get all the positivity / kindness / no shame concepts. I really do. But in the world of SBS it seems that this means you don't get to have a voice unless you're willing to toe the party line.

And all this is from the woman who posted a picture of herself on her Instagram feed wearing a short skirt and referred to the length as 'slutty'. I wear short skirts. That doesn't make me a slut.

Eesha · 25/02/2020 20:41

I also stopped following the Facebook group as just got no inspiration from it. Only the blonde lady, Sarah I think, has an interesting style worth copying.

SallieSallow · 25/02/2020 21:10

I signed up to M&S ‘Try Tuesday’ it’s completely free with no obligation to buy anything, I’ve actually found their suggestions (only had one lot so far) more helpful than SBS. They don’t do colour analysis but the suggestions so far are all colours I like and would wear.
