Hi all, I've been following the tribe group on Facebook for a while but just wondering if anyone here has tried it. I can't seem to get to the bottom of what they advise, seasons etc. Is there something similar closer to London. And she keeps advising chunky trainers, is this a thing now?

I know my shape, could take a good guess at my colouring but have zero style confidence and have no idea what I like or suits me. For those of you that have paid for an online analysis so you think it's worth it?

swissmilk · 17/08/2019 14:10

@Billsbill you need a personal shopper at John Lewis Oxford Street, this is exactly what they do, you will have lots of time/attention, it's free, face-to-face and they are really good at what they do.

BarrenFieldofFucks · 17/08/2019 14:28

I think it isn't about not saying anything negative, but how you say it. I often see people saying "I think you can find better" or, a different cut may be more flattering etc. It is the "fuck no" or laughy emojis that are a no.

I'm on the group, and do find it interesting in a positive, colourful kind of way. I know my 'season' etc anyway so use it more as a "has anyone seen a top like xyz in such and such colour" anywhere type thing.

stoplickingthetelly · 17/08/2019 14:36

I’ll start by saying I haven’t been ‘styled’. Found some of the information interesting at first, but the more I’ve seen the more dubious I’ve become. There seems to be a bit of a uniform going on as far as I can see - tucked in tops and chunky white trainers. I’ve left the Facebook group today as I don’t find it particularly helpful or honest. I posted asking about ‘tucking in’ if you’ve got a bit of a c-section tum going on. My post wasn’t approved because apparently it was negative and might make others feel bad - even though I was asking about my own situation 🤷🏻‍♀️

Skyejuly · 17/08/2019 15:12

Just feels like money making industry

Billsbill · 17/08/2019 15:47

That may be the way to go Swissmilk although this seemed a good way to go without the embarrassment of being fashionably hopeless. Thanks for the advice I will look into it x

swissmilk · 17/08/2019 19:05

@Billsbill is still good old John Lewis....they will be lovely and look after you, they aren't expecting a fashionista...they are all at Harvey Nicks and Matches etc.

Flowerpot1278 · 17/08/2019 19:10

I had the online analysis recently and I really recommend it. I have a totally different style to susie but she bears this in mind and I thought her tips were spot on. I consider myself really into clothes but my guess as to my body shape and season were totally wrong.
I think the Facebook group has pros but the issue is a lot of people there haven’t had the analysis so just repeat a lot of basic things like tucking in and wearing chunky white trainers. The online analysis is more sophisticated than that. I am pleased I’ve done it and it’s helping me with shapes and colours going forward - I realised I’ve been dressing to make myself look ten times bigger and more tired than I really am!

Billsbill · 17/08/2019 19:32

I think it's the Facebook page that is making me question it. Interesting about you being a different shape and season. There is no question I am appear all the way. The season I could be completely wrong on. I will see what the prices are like when they release them or do a lunch with as glass of vino for courage and head to JL (could be financially dangerous)

Flowerpot1278 · 17/08/2019 19:46

I thought I was an apple due to the mum tum (actually the tum way before I was a mum) but I’m an hourglass, and her tips for styles that suit that shape have knocked pounds off me. I had a hatred of skinny jeans but the pair she recommended really look great and again so flattering. I was skeptical id learn anything new, and maybe some don’t. I’d be way too scared of going in person to do a shop though and I’m not sure I’d want her choosing specific items for me as I seem to shop in different places to the ones she normally recommends, but the analysis is a bit more general than that, although there are some specifics. Also for a glasses analysis and again that was brill!

pieeye · 18/08/2019 07:23

^ That is terrible. What bullshit. I left that bloody group ages ago.

Juupiter · 18/08/2019 07:59

The group is really hit and miss. Out of the women who have been analysed, some really take it on board and look utterly fabulous. Others start posts mentioning that they are a winter hourglass (or whatever) and post pics of all the clothes they have bought or whatnot that are all autumn colours and shapes that would not suit an hourglass. I don’t get it - why pay for an analysis if you’re then going to completely ignore all of the advice?

Blankscreen · 18/08/2019 08:55

I think her style ideas are a bit basic. The last time I looked she seemed to be suggesting skinny jeans and a biker jacket.- isn't that the look people are trying to get away from?

I think one of the best thing you can do is look on Instagram/ magazines for inspiration. Don't try and do everything at once a good place to start is.say jeans.

Take yourself to the shops one day and spend the day trying on different styles of jeans. Get a couple of pairs you like and build from there.

Marsis · 29/12/2019 18:16

Just bumping this to see if anybody has more recent feedback or alternatives?

I share some of the concerns of other regarding the FB group and the PR/daily mail type stunts but can’t find another online based colour/shape analysis and I’m really in a rut and have no idea what suits me.

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 29/12/2019 18:43

She's based in the US, but check out the website Truth Is Beauty. She doesn't do as many different types of analyses as Susie, but is in a different league in terms of her explanations of colour and line theory - she goes way beyond body shape and some made up style types (girl next door with an edge? Lol). Anyway, her website is fantastically informative.

overtheseagull · 29/12/2019 18:53

I see Susie's DM public relations stunts continue 🙄 All while promoting 'real women' (PLEASE, stop using that fucking phrase) and allegedly being 'body positive'. No one who has anything to do with the DM is either of those things.

Marsis · 29/12/2019 19:50

Thanks Truth is Beauty has some good suggestions. I’m fairly sure I’m autumn, dark brown hair and eyes however my skin is quite pale but does tan, I hardly wear jewellery and have no idea if silver or gold suits me to do that test which comes up in the self tests. I think I might try a couple of primary dupes of some of the lipsticks suggested for autumn and pick out items in loosely autumn colours.

It’s knowing what suits me that I find hardest but I doubt an online service can help with that SBS seem to recommend similar items for everyone though regardless of shape.

katienana · 29/12/2019 20:11

I've had it done and I really liked it. Got me out of a rut. Chunky trainers not recommended for my shape so I'm still in my Converse!
I agree there are probably people in the group cherry picking advice not having had the analysis but if it's making them spend time and resources on themselves looking and feeling better then it's not a bad thing really

DontFundHate · 29/12/2019 20:31

I've done it and liked it. Gave me real clarity on what would suit my shape and why, which colours, make up etc. The group is a bit dull but I'm still in it to have a look now and again, but it doesn't show on my feed as it's annoying. The positivity there is special and rare, so I think it's important to keep it. If you look there are honest posters who will say, I think this might look better... Etc, it's all in a nice way.

DontFundHate · 29/12/2019 20:31

Now when I go shopping it's so easy, I know which cuts and colours suit, and which ones don't.

DivisionBelles · 29/12/2019 20:40

I did it fairly recently and I've found her advice quite informative. One of her other stylists did my analysis though. I think I sort of knew what styles suited me, but to have it affirmed by someone else was good. I still haven't got the hang of, or confidence to tuck in though!

buckeejit · 29/12/2019 21:05

Not been SBS but have done 'my' colours & style done by house of colour a few years ago & actually found it life changing. I'd recommend the online style for anyone not sure of their shape or colour, (am sure you can work out your shape by taking measurements & online check)

I'm an autumn & in house of colour autumns shouldn't wear black as it's not best. Dark brown looks better on me by Susie Wears a lot of black. I'm also not sure an online analysis can accurately confirm your best colours. I think ideally you should be draped for this.

A lot of your style is dependent on your personality also. For more detailed analysis check out David Zyla. Some contributors on the fb group really live that concept. It's very interesting.

It was worth it to find the sort of red lipstick I suit for me!

Ellapaella · 29/12/2019 22:28

I've done it and thought it was ok. Just confirmed what I suspected really.
The FB group used to be good - people posting outfits and it was great for inspiration. Unfortunately they have recently started only allowing posts that ask specific advice and questions so it's become quite dull. Not really interested in that - what made the FB page interesting was the outfit ideas.
I'm not sure it's worth the price unless you really have no idea what colouring or shape you are - if you have an idea already then it's unlikely to add anything amazing.

Copperblack · 29/12/2019 22:34

I had the analysis and it was excellent- has really helped me get out of a rut with too much black, and I get lots of compliments now. Her jeans recommendations were spot on - I never would have gone for what she suggested but they are so flattering. Makeup suggestions were also good - I had wanted to try nude lips but hadn’t found the right one, and the suggestions ( both cheap and high end) were good. The group isn’t helpful as it’s too nice, but the analysis really worked for me.
