Previous thread. I think we'll be a bit short of royal outfits as they're all off on their holidays atm. But Kate's regatta is coming up next week, hence the thread title!

Same rules as always - keep it light, critique the clothes rather than the women, and don't believe anything printed in the Daily Mail Grin

Apparently M&S shares have been falling steadily in the last year but rose 1.8% since the Meghan collaboration was announced.

I must say as soon as i saw about Meghan collaborating with M&S in this way the first thing i thought was - helping save M&S might well be the hidden agenda!

Imagine the positive PR of helping revive the fortunes of the national treasure which is Marks and Sparks. Benefiting a woman's charity would sort of pale into the background in comparison to that achievement! Grin

Laiste · 02/08/2019 14:16

And yes i'll definitely mosey down to have a look at the collection. I think those clothes from the other collaboration are smart and stylish.

Gonegrey31 · 02/08/2019 14:19

I see that Meghan’s guest edited version of Vogue is for sale at a special low price of £2. That is well below the normal price and should make it much more widely accessible.

QueenOfTheAndals · 02/08/2019 14:37

@Laiste I've lost count of the number of MN threads about how dire M&S' clothes offerings are these days. Wouldn't it be hilarious if Meghan revived their fortunes? Am trying to think about what critical angle the DM might take on that..,

Wetdogloveshubert · 02/08/2019 14:45

I have a copy in my hands! The £2 cost surprised me, but made me happier to buy. Meghan's style is less flowery than extracts have suggested, and Enninful's letter less gushing. I would love it if M&S, Jigsaw and JL had a revival of sorts on the back of this. Goodness knows they need it.

hopeishere · 02/08/2019 16:19

Vogue is frequently only £2 it's not just for this issue.

Spudlet · 02/08/2019 16:47

Queen DM headline (with random capitalisations of course):

‘Is NOTHING sacred? Meghan AMERICANISES national treasure retailer!’

Grin

Damn her, with her clothes that people might actually want to buy🙄

QueenOfTheAndals · 02/08/2019 16:50

Trademark that headline right now @Spudlet before they steal it! Bloody Americans coming over here and showing our retailers how to make a profit...

Isn't Meghan also patron of an animal charity? Perhaps we should start a rumour saying her next pet project (ahem) will be a guest edit of Your Dog magazine? Several of her famous friends and their mutts tell all about the best organic dog food and pet spas in the U.K!

Spudlet · 02/08/2019 17:04

Hah, I really should, shouldn’t I? You saw it here first Grin

Of course if they’re really on the ball, they’ll be able to pivot to making sly digs at Meghan for being too chic and fashionable, and also at Kate for not being quite chic and fashionable enough. I predict a sub-head centred around a lack of Breton stripes or skinny jeans Hmm

Labrodite · 02/08/2019 19:02

Personally, I'm loving Meghan's practical American-style approach of mobilising people and raising real money rather than just building profiles. Agree with this! I prefer to see something of substance being done rather than just ‘raising awareness’. Meghan seems to put in the work, at least compared to some other royals.

I’m very curious to see what’s in the clothing collection. I really hope it’s not too limited and that they have lots of stock so it’s not hard to get hold of.

There’s this comment in Meghan’s Smart Works article in Vogue that says ‘thanks John Lewis for making the perfect tote - that fits a CV’. I don’t know if that implies that it’s from her own collection or not!

Interesting that one of the businesses advertised in the wellness section of this edition is Ilapothecary, which Meghan and Harry visited while she was pregnant. link in an attempt to avoid the DM I've linked to a Tumblr blog. It was for research Grin

Funny you should mention Ilapothecary

Did you see the Popbitch article?

This was jn the same issue......

It was curious seeing Dan Wootton give Meghan Markle both barrels this week. You'd think he'd be a little more friendly, given that he's such good pals with Wills and Kate's press secretary...

QueenOfTheAndals · 02/08/2019 22:25

Dan Wootton must have selective amnesia to say royals don't guest edit magazines when Charles, Harry and Kate have all done the same in the past. This Buzzfeed piece about it all is actually quite good. I can't believe a columnist claimed Meghan was discriminating against white men! And the state of Eamonn Holmes, calling her "uppity" 🤦🏻‍♀️

I have a friend who's into woo stuff like gong baths. Seems a very effective way of separating people from their money!!

Oh FFS! What is wrong with them all 🙄 it is so much better when they appear to be getting on and having fun. Falling out and stabbing each other in the back is just not proper.

stamps foot

EmGee · 02/08/2019 22:49

What on earth is a gong bath?!?

QueenOfTheAndals · 02/08/2019 22:59

I think you meditate while someone bangs a gong? Bathing isn't actually part of it. My friend went to a "healing cacao gong bath". Alas chocolate was not involved...

On the other hand it's probably the sort of thing that would appeal to Vogue readers, especially if they also subscribe to Goop!

Wtf Queen!

BigGreenOlives · 03/08/2019 05:22

I went with a friend to a Yang yoga afternoon with sound bath, it was fun. We adopted poses on supportive bolsters under the guidance of one instructor and a musician hit gongs and bowls. When we left we felt as if we’d been on holiday, it was incredibly relaxing. We were very pleased we’d gone together as it was so bizarre and yet worked.

Hat & espadrilles ready for later.

When does the M&S collection launch?
