Previous thread. I think we'll be a bit short of royal outfits as they're all off on their holidays atm. But Kate's regatta is coming up next week, hence the thread title!

Same rules as always - keep it light, critique the clothes rather than the women, and don't believe anything printed in the Daily Mail Grin

Checking in x

Aragog · 02/08/2019 08:07

It's a thing apparently. Who knew?

Yes, it's been around a while. Back in 2002 when Dd was born her three wheeler buggy had a special wrist strap designed to use with when tuning to make sure it didn't escape from you. Not that I ever used it to run with!

gingercat02 · 02/08/2019 08:22

Buggy running has been a thing here since before ds (11) was born. They are called Pushy Mums!

Rhubarbisevil · 02/08/2019 08:25

I’m sure she writes it herself. She has a degree in English from Edinburgh University. She has experience in stringing a sentence or two together.

QueenOfTheAndals · 02/08/2019 08:27

Her article is probably subbed but I don't think it's ghost written.

A young woman from a few houses down was run over and killed a couple of years ago while buggy jogging around the narrow country lanes between the villages. By some miracle the baby was unharmed. She would run every day while she was pregnant and once the baby came she would go out every day and run on the road with the buggy. No footpaths round here so just squeezing between the ditches and any on coming cars.

I witnessed her have a near miss with a big lorry one day, and then just 3 days before the accident i myself nearly ploughed into them as i came round a blind bend to find her running full pelt towards me in the road. Buggy flying along in front of her. I had to swerve really sharply to avoid it and it was lucky there was nothing coming the other way. It was a shock and i swore and nearly went back to see if i could catch her up and say something about how dangerous it was.

Sorry for the downer but anyone thinking about buggy jogging - please don't do it in the road !! :(

Daisypie · 02/08/2019 08:58

Oh Laiste that is so sad.

FATEdestiny · 02/08/2019 09:01

Thanks for the new thread.

margotsdevil · 02/08/2019 09:20

I had a royal dream last night - I feel like I'm allowed to be properly part of the thread now Grin I randomly met the DoC who needed a lift with the children so my dad (not sure how he got there...) gave us alll a lift back to the palace where Carole served us all afternoon tea! And gave me entry passes to Ascot to say thank you... bizarre but fun that dream was!

QueenOfTheAndals · 02/08/2019 09:21

So did I! I dreamed that Kate was endorsing some sort of woo birth prep classes involving hypnosis and aura cleansing. Very weird!!!

BigGreenOlives · 02/08/2019 09:44

How sad @Laiste, you must have felt quite chilled when you heard.

I'd rather have my windows cleaned than my aura personally @QueenOfTheAndals.

QueenOfTheAndals · 02/08/2019 09:54

Maybe my dream confused Kate with Martha Louise is Norway! Speaking of ML, I see on Instagram that she's still with the conman shaman Hmm

I really like the white dress Leti is wearing in her recent photos and it's on sale but not in my size Sad I've been looking for a white broderie anglaise dress for ages but had no luck. Anyway, my holiday is nearly finished and I think the U.K. has had all the summer we're going to get - maybe next year!

OP posts:
Wetdogloveshubert · 02/08/2019 12:48

@BigGreenOlives are you outing yourself as our friend Meghan? Grin

Leti was in an olive green jumpsuit today.

I've had so many royal family dreams since partaking in these threads, it's unreal. Harry was in one recently, but the best (non-royal) was Idris Elba romancing me last night. Ben Stiller made an appearance, which rather spoiled the mood Confused

Maybe it will come back into stock for you @QueenOfTheAndals, don't give up hope!

SenecaFalls · 02/08/2019 12:52

Thanks for the new thread, Queen.

I'm also on holiday, with intermittent WiFi and dodgy mobile signal. Forced to chat with my extended family instead of mumsnetting, but will check in when I can.

QueenOfTheAndals · 02/08/2019 12:54

I love that jumpsuit! I'm yet to find one that doesn't make me look like I work in a garage.

If the Queen of Spain can't wear espadrilles, who can?

BlingLoving · 02/08/2019 13:10

I disappear for 3 days due to intense workload and miss a LOT! Grin

Just checking in. Am interested to see the actual collection - have any of the pieces being shown yet? I'm assuming it will be relatively simple stuff that's cheap to make and not too expensive to buy, limiting the cost for the retailers and buyers if the cost of one has to cover the cost of a second.

Personally, I'm loving Meghan's practical American-style approach of mobilising people and raising real money rather than just building profiles. I have nothing against Kate at all and I think she genuinely cares about the causes she's involved in, but I like Meghan's style of patronage. There have been rumours that Anne is very hands on in a discreet way - convening meetings, making calls etc - and I suspect Kate is the same for at least some of her charities. But I can't help being attracted to Meghan's style. Maybe because I'm not English.

Our school has been on a serious fund raising effort the last couple of years. A big part of our successful has been shifting our approach so that while we're still doing the local regular stuff, we're making more effort to access funds from a wider pool, in particular corporates in the form of matched funding or donations and the broader community and finding ways to engage a wider group of parents by encouraging and supporting independent efforts. I think annual fundraising amounts have more than doubled to what they were three years ago. Meghan, I suspect, would be the type we're actively looking for to come up with stuff! Grin

GotToGoMyOwnWay · 02/08/2019 13:10

Thanks fir the new thread @QueenOfTheAndals

How sad @Laiste

I’m certain Pippa writes her own articles. She’s not an airhead, went to one of the top schools in the country & study English at an excellent university. She’s more than capable of writing a decent article!

QueenOfTheAndals · 02/08/2019 13:22

@BlingLoving I think the collection is only on the very early stages so I doubt there's anything to show yet. It wouldn't surprise me if Meghan is quite involved in the design of the items as she has some experience in this area.

OP posts:
Wetdogloveshubert · 02/08/2019 13:23

That's interesting @BlingLoving. I see my dd's school's efforts and wonder if much more could be achieved by mobilising more people and diversifying activities. I'm not a creative sort, so wouldn't know where to start, but given the catchment I'm sure much more could be done.

I agree with your comments on Meghan's style - it's a healthy contrast with the normal 'visible' activities.

Paradyning · 02/08/2019 13:27

I'm quite excited to see Meg's M&S offerings. I loved the black autograph jumper she wore. It'll all sell out before we can buy anything though I expect. Like Holly.

Wetdogloveshubert · 02/08/2019 13:28

Sorry for multiple posts today...

I found this interview on JL's website link about Smartworks. It seems they've collaborated for a while, with JL donating items from their own collection to the charity. The interview is undated, but seems to be from earlier in the year; the CEO said this about Meghan becoming patron:

‘More women are aware of our service and that we’re here to help – it helps get the message out,’ says Kate of the benefits the royal relationship brings, adding: ‘She really connects with the clients, going straight with them into the dressing room and getting involved. She’s very down-to-earth and grounded with people and puts them at their ease – it’s quite a skill to be able to do that.’

Spudlet · 02/08/2019 13:29

Match funding is certainly a ‘thing’ for charities - one I worked for is doing a drive where every donation will be matched by the government (it’s an overseas aid thing). So the idea of Meghan doing that in kind as opposed to money isn’t too outlandish. It will fall into the retailers CSR budgets, and in any case I’d imagine they’re expecting the Meghan effect to compensate them - I’d expect all of these clothes to sell out, given her profile. That can only be a good thing for retailers.
