Royal style & gossip: Breton stripes and skinny jeans...

Previous thread. I think we'll be a bit short of royal outfits as they're all off on their holidays atm. But Kate's regatta is coming up next week, hence the thread title!

Same rules as always - keep it light, critique the clothes rather than the women, and don't believe anything printed in the Daily Mail Grin

I’ve been to the Dior Exhibition 4 times, I’m a member and took different guests each time. I liked it more each time I went, especially as last time it was pretty quiet and so we had space. The Food exhibition on at the moment is really good, v interesting & uncrowned.

I was in Amsterdam last week and had a look round the royal palace, hoping for tiaras - sadly none on show!

pinkladyapples · 14/08/2019 10:49

Not style related but was at Hill Top, Beatrix Potter's home in the Lake District on Sunday and she had this in her cabinet. Guessing it is from the Coronation of Edward VII.

Closer look

Yes I think it has to be from their coronation. I think Edward VII might've been the oldest monarch at coronation (or was it William IV?) but of course that record will be surpassed by Charles eventually.

Lovely commemorative ware there!

Alexandra of Denmark was the longest serving Princess of Wales, and with Victoria as her MIL she had a lot to contend with, as well as her own ill health and deafness, husband with a roving eye, several pregnancies (6?).
On a fashion note, the high necks and chokers she wore to hide a scar from a childhood operation, became popular across society.

At the hospice I worked for we have a summer fayre, some pieces came in connected to the Queen mother and her OH. Very gaudy, staff said yuk. I asked If I could give it to a friend who did E Bay, they would only have sold it for a couple of pounds. The fundraising manager said yes. Her assistant then hid it away (bitch) I kicked up such a fuss about theft, it turned up. They raised hundreds of pounds. I still think they were yucky.

Svensk Damtidning (our most royal fawning magazine) had a story about going to one of the schaman events, sadly it's behind a paywall so I couldn't read it.

You can however see Queen Silvia's nine best hats: www.svenskdam.se/kungligt/grattis-silvia-vi-firar-med-drottningens-9-lackraste-hattar/

Greta Thunberg is sailing to the US and one of the people sailing with her is Pierre Casiraghi.

Oh my goodness, those pictures! Very Mary Poppins!

AdaColeman
Princess Alexandra was not only long serving but also long suffering-the poor woman being married to the lascivious Edward - is he of the infamous chair of an earlier thread ?

paradyning · 14/08/2019 18:34

Think the chair discussion was on the 'other' thread

MotherofPearl · 14/08/2019 21:09

Other thread?! Shock There are no other threads, @paradyning!

paradyning · 14/08/2019 21:32

Oh there was one that got a bit kinky. Regarding the chair. Following PW and Rose H discussion.

Cute photos of Estelle and Oscar of Sweden

Cute very ‘normal’ looking kids.

I finally got around to reading this month's Vogue. Meghan's actually done a decent job as guest editor. On the whole it's a lot less OTT than the excerpts in the press would have you believe and there are some good articles on ethical/sustainable fashion, businesses that are also social enterprises and most of the "forces for change" are interesting women. I'm interested to see whether it was a success from a financial point of view but we won't know that until next month.

I know we're meant to avoid the Fail, but they have an article on Anne's recycling of outfits today, in celebration of her 69th birthday (Happy Birthday Anne!) link I haven't seen any activity on Instagram or twitter yet by the RF, but they may put something up later today.

I agree with you, @QueenOfTheAndals - the edition was well played.

RatherBeRiding · 15/08/2019 10:22

That's a really good article on Anne's recycled outfits. She is one very stylish lady - and obviously still has the same figure pushing 70 that she had nearly 50 years ago!

QueenOfTheAndals · 15/08/2019 10:27

I do wonder though if it's a case of keeping her figure or whether she has a dressmaker who is very clever with alterations!

Lovely new pic of Ann and her Mum (aka HMQ) to mark her birthday.

Wetdogloveshubert · 15/08/2019 10:54

That's a lovely picture @DevonUkelele. Whenever you see photos of the two of them together they give a sense of real warmth and affection. I really admire Anne's no-nonsense approach to life, and style!

QueenOfTheAndals · 15/08/2019 10:57

Lovely photo but I think it's a few years old - either to mark HM's 90th birthday or her sapphire jubilee?

OP posts:
DevonUkelele · 15/08/2019 10:57

It is lovely, isn't it. I've just seen Annie Liebovitz's 2016 copyright on it, so it's clearly not new.

I think it's from that fab series with all the grandies (where Mia Tindall stole the royal handbag)

For the first time, I see how alike they are - in the eyes and cheekbones. And Ann's figure seems to be all genuine - i tips me hat!

QueenOfTheAndals · 15/08/2019 11:36

Anne is very much like her great-aunt Princess Mary and HM looks more like Queen Mary with the passing of each year.
