Previous thread. I think we'll be a bit short of royal outfits as they're all off on their holidays atm. But Kate's regatta is coming up next week, hence the thread title!

Same rules as always - keep it light, critique the clothes rather than the women, and don't believe anything printed in the Daily Mail Grin

Are Tussauds implying that Meghan Markle was a guest at Harry's wedding? Confused

Moving her to the sleb room is outrageous.

TipseyTorvey · 13/08/2019 07:04

Madam Tussauds must have made more sense back in the days when there was limited TV and photos of celebs so it was as close as you'd get to seeing them in the flesh. Nowadays it just makes no sense to me when you could 3d print a celeb in a nano second or follow them on IG and watch every unfolding moment. I've never been tho so I might be wrong. If they are putting Meghan in the celeb corner for publicity then that's pathetic and pandering to The Daily Fail readers. I can't imagine they'll be around in the next decade anyway so meh.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 13/08/2019 07:14

Olivia Colman as HM

I think she is a brilliant actress and cannot wait to see how she plays HM.
However, I think Claire Foy did a lot of unspoken expression through her eyes, and I do find it really bad casting that both HM and Princess Margaret are being played by brown eyed actresses ( Helena Nonhan Carter)
Are there any dates yet for the Netflix release?

JintyandtheJs · 13/08/2019 07:34

Radio times saying Nov 17

BigGreenOlives · 13/08/2019 07:35

I completely agree with you @TipseyTorvey, Madame Tussaud’s made sense before photography, it is now pointless, we’ve all seen more images of the people they make models of than had hot dinners. The first exhibitions were before 1800.

StCharlotte · 13/08/2019 08:17

I went to a party at Madame Tussauds a couple of years back. Excellent party but truly terrible waxworks.

I can't help thinking Farage has shot himself in the foot (good) as I imagine most of his voters will be staunch royalists...

TipseyTorvey · 13/08/2019 08:28

I think Farage would have got away with insulting meghan and by association Harry but he took it too far with the queen mother who was beloved to those staunch royalists due to the whole visiting the East end in the blitz spirit. Also attacking Charles seems a bit bizarre. I mean yes we all used to mock his talking to trees but he was right wasn't he, at least about the environment. I like hugging trees though so always agreed with that aspect, the tampon stuff not so much 😂

QueenOfTheAndals · 13/08/2019 08:36

@TipseyTorvey These days Charles would've said he wanted to be a Mooncup Grin

QueenOfTheAndals · 13/08/2019 08:39

Farage is, always has been and always will be an utter dick. I also really hate how right wingers use "woke" to refer to caring about the environment, women's rights and racism. The way they go on you'd think these were all bad things to talk about! It gained mainstream usage with the Black Lives Matter campaign, but of course the likes of Farage will miss the point and insist that white lives matter too 🙄

I watched a documentary about the original Madame Tussaud - it was really interesting. It started as a travelling exhibition and she deliberately set the price high enough to make it an aspirational thing to go. She was a sharp woman!

DontFearTheReaper · 13/08/2019 08:58

I too don’t understand MT, but the Claudia Winkleman one in Blackpool is actually quite good!

Derek says: 'People always say "You're the celebrity shaman," but when I hear that I just gag. I'm the people's shaman. I'm not here to be your Gucci bag. I'm not here to be your next idol or your "guru".

I'm really puzzled by the Madame T thing. I'm sitting here with my face all frowny. It just seems really really odd! From what ever way i look at it.

QueenOfTheAndals · 13/08/2019 09:29

I prefer to see bad waxworks than good ones because at least there's entertainment value in laughing at them and trying to figure out who's who!

Laiste · 13/08/2019 11:11

Yes. Haven't been since i was a teen.
Did you ever hear that thing about Hitler's figure's hair growing? Shock He used to stand near the entrance to the chamber of horrors iirc. Apparently the staff at MT would periodically have to trim his hair and they all hated having too do it and were freaked out.

Ugh, that IS freaky, Laiste!

I think Olivia Colman will be great as HMQ, and I am really looking forward to it. And speaking of the Queen Mum, Olivia played her (as Queen she was then) in Hyde Park on Hudson, which depicted Bertie and Elizabeth's visit to President Roosevelt where he famously fed them hot dogs.

Daisypie · 13/08/2019 11:56

It's going to be really weird watching the new series of the Crown and comparing all the actors to the previous actors as well as to the real people they represent.

QueenOfTheAndals · 13/08/2019 11:59

@SenecaFalls She did! And Victoria Hamilton who played the QM has also played Queen Victoria in the past. And Alex Jennings who was the Duke of Windsor was also Prince Charles in The Queen and Leopold of Belgium in The Young Victoria.

It's a small world!

TipseyTorvey · 13/08/2019 12:00

LOL at mooncup Queen😂. I am SO looking forward to the new crown series as we're all out of Netflix things. I think Olivia will be fantastic.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 13/08/2019 12:02

I kind of agree about the casting of brown eyed actresses, because HM and PM's eyes are arguably their most striking feature.

I do think the MT thing is a storm in a teacup. They probably think she'll get seen more in the celebrity setting than in the royal one - different audience. It's not a permanent move. Still think it's a terrible idea.

Interesting about MT's aspirational pricing. The operators of Concorde did something similar. They worked out that the kind of people who flew on Concorde didn't make their own bookings, so they contacted their VIP customers directly and asked how much they thought the tickets were. All of them massively overestimated the ticket price so the operators just increased the price to match expectations.

Spudlet · 13/08/2019 12:30

Hah, it’s like a higher stakes version of asking politicians how much they think a pint of milk costs!

TipseyTorvey · 13/08/2019 12:35

That made me google the entrance price for MT. £35 per ticket!!!! Even with discounts that would cost us over £100 as a family. To look a load of old (badly done) wax models, not a chance. I'd rather go to a spitting image museum, speaking of which theres talk it's coming back. I can just see the Meghan puppet being all over californian and woke but quite funny if done right.
