Royal style & gossip: Breton stripes and skinny jeans...

Previous thread. I think we'll be a bit short of royal outfits as they're all off on their holidays atm. But Kate's regatta is coming up next week, hence the thread title!

Same rules as always - keep it light, critique the clothes rather than the women, and don't believe anything printed in the Daily Mail Grin

Exactly. He's just vile.

MotherofPearl · 12/08/2019 17:49

He also hates PC because - climate change. Confused

SunshineCake · 12/08/2019 17:53

Why because Prince Charles was saying about this 40 years ago and NF Wishes he'd thought of it sooner Hmm.

thisenglishlife · 12/08/2019 17:53

Those horrible climate change worriers, how dare they care about the environment. 🤣

Looked up DOC's Zimmerman dress, it's very summery as well. Naomi Watts also wore it - I didn't realise that she's nearly fourteen years older than Kate!

Well, Farridge’s views on H and M match up quite nicely with those of mumsnetters..............

Spudlet · 12/08/2019 17:57

Have briefly met Nigel Farage (or as we refer to him, Niggle Farridge) and can confirm that he is just as repulsive in person. As was just about every UKIP MEP I met - and the one who wasn’t was bullied out of the party. Says it all.

If he dislikes the Royals, this can only be a point in the Royals’ favour. Too bad for HMQ that he appeared to like her - can’t think what the poor woman has done to deserve that.

AppleKatie · 12/08/2019 18:15

He’s an odious racist little turd isn’t he. Eugh

MotherofPearl · 12/08/2019 18:49

Not mine thanks Bert, but yes, I take your point.

One can only hope that hearing NF spout these views may give some of the M&H haters pause for thought, when they realise whose side they're on.

MotherofPearl · 12/08/2019 19:09

I see that there's also a Victoria Murphy podcast on The Guardian website about the bile directed at Meghan by the media.

TipseyTorvey · 12/08/2019 19:19

Farridge (I like that name) would be funny but the fact he's so popular really scares me. Certain people seem so happy to say things like ' well he's only saying what everyone is thinking but has been to scared to say' and I'm like, really??? Wtaf. I hope it does give the Meghan haters pause for thought but I suspect they're entrenched in their view now.

paradyning · 12/08/2019 19:40

That Zimmerman is my all time favourite Kate dress. But I'm a sucker for broderie.

The outpouring of bile against the Duchess of Sussex has been impossible to miss in recent weeks, whether it is stories of her contributing tohuman rights abuses through eating avocados, or opinion piecescriticising herfor guest editing Vogue or being ‘snobbish’. But many commentators have noted another tone to some of the criticism, one of misogyny and racism

Victoria Murphyhas been covering the young royals for years and joinsAnushka Asthanato discuss how Meghan has adapted to life in Britain and the royal family. She points to a rich history of intense tabloid criticism that most members of the monarchy have been through in recent years

beanaseireann · 12/08/2019 20:00

The Zimmerman dress is lovely on both Kate and Naomi.

AliasGrape · 12/08/2019 20:21

Love the Zimmerman broderie dress, think Naomi probably wore it better but they both look great

Was stunned to hear on the radio tonight Madame Tussauds is to remove Meghan from the royal family scene and put her in with other A list celebrities.

"The London-based attraction revealed the wax figures of the duke and duchess will go different rooms for the first time – with Meghan separated from the royal family. Meghan’s waxwork will be placed in the glitzy party room full of her showbiz friends, to reflect her A-list roots rather than her royal status.

She will be among the figures of close friends Tom Hardy, the Beckhams and Priyanka Chopra – who all attended her wedding to Prince Harry in May 2018.

Meanwhile, Prince Harry’s figure will be housed among the rest of the royal family.

Steve Davies, General Manager at Madame Tussauds London, said: “At Madame Tussauds London we’re always listening to what people have to say about their favourite stars.

Well I would call that a demotion. Whose daft idea was this?

AppleKatie · 12/08/2019 22:49

Madame Tussaud’s just looking for self promotion/press opportunities there. Ridiculous.

GotToGoMyOwnWay · 12/08/2019 22:51

Meghan is part of the royal family- her waxwork should stay with them!

BertrandRussell · 12/08/2019 22:56

That Madame Tussaud’s thing can’t possibly be true, surely? It’s so incredibly offensive if it is.......

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 12/08/2019 23:00

Calm down people, it's temporary, to showcase her independent celebrity status apparently and group her with other A listers. Still a daft idea though.

AppleKatie · 12/08/2019 23:00

They’ve done similar stunts before. Mixing up exhibitions for the headlines and then quietly changing it back in a few months.

They’ll be trying to up their trade for a bumper end of summer. Best ignored tbh.

QueenOfTheAndals · 12/08/2019 23:03

I find waxworks so strange. Or rather, I find people willing to queue up for hours and pay good money to see statues that look almost like someone famous so strange.

It would appear that the most “woke” Royal is actually Princess Martha Louise of Norway
She’s friends with Gwynnie and has her own Shaman boyfriend. His name is Durek not Derek as I had originally thought.

Wonder how this spiritual enlightenment is going down at the old Norwegian palace....?

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 12/08/2019 23:26

Also, the waxworks are a bit unconvincing, aren't they? Actually the one of Harry isn't bad, but the rest of the Royal family are almost unrecognisable.

AppleKatie · 12/08/2019 23:27

When you meet your twin flame, you know. I have been lucky enough to have met mine. @shamandurek has changed my life, like he does with so many. He has made me realize that unconditional love actually exists here on this planet. He embraces all of me without question or fear. He makes me laugh more than anyone, has the most profound wisdom to share and all the bits in between from the diversity of his being. I feel so happy and blessed that he is my boyfriend. Thank you my love, for including me so generously into your family. I love you from this eternity to the next.
And to those of you who feel the need to criticize: Hold your horses. It is not up to you to choose for me or to judge me. I don’t choose my man to satisfy any of you or the norms or boxes you have chosen in your mind for me to be in. I don’t thrive there, nor do I exist in your illusion about me. I choose from love. And that’s it. Shaman Durek is merely a man I love spending my time with and who fulfills me. So thank you for respecting my actions and my choice of partner. All I know at this moment is that we love each other and I am super happy. Have a wonderful, loving Sunday and Mother’s day

Good grief can you imagine the Queen or Philips reaction to one of our younger royals posting like this publicly 😂

mathanxiety · 13/08/2019 01:28

Like a bucket of cold sick, Curly.
From Queen's Vogue link upthread:

Per 'People', the daughter of King Harald V and Queen Sonja announced on Instagram that she will no longer use the title of “Princess” unless she is officially representing the Norwegian royal family, or in a private setting. The decision comes after she and her boyfriend, Shaman Durek (real name: Derek Verrett) went on a speaking tour called “The Princess and the Shaman.” Critics said she was exploiting her hereditary status for business purposes.

“The discussions are something I have taken seriously, and in collaboration with my family we have found that it is best that we make some changes,” she wrote, according to the outlet. “We have therefore jointly come to the conclusion that I use the title princess when I represent the Royal House, do my official assignments at home and abroad, and in private contexts. From now on I will not use my princess title in a commercial context. That is, in all commercial contexts, I only use Märtha Louise.”

I am sure the little chat was all very decorous.
