Royal style & gossip: Breton stripes and skinny jeans...

Previous thread. I think we'll be a bit short of royal outfits as they're all off on their holidays atm. But Kate's regatta is coming up next week, hence the thread title!

Same rules as always - keep it light, critique the clothes rather than the women, and don't believe anything printed in the Daily Mail Grin

I suspect "boots on the ground" is a Harryism. It's a military term to do with troops on active service, she probably didn't realise it's not a term used by the average Brit.

Rose is very pretty, but I don’t see any resemblance to Kate, I actually think Rose is prettier.

People either have forgotten the early days of Kate &Will or they have selective memory loss,
She was very young and was hounded by the press everywhere , was seen as too common for Will, people thought of her as a bad example for young girls because she didn’t work Ma Middleton stalking Will and setting them up together, again this was on MN, Her topless pictures? Taken while she was sunbathing inside a private property? The expenses of their Norfolk house was featured in the DM for weeks, few US Rags printed stories about her faking her pregnancy because she was a heavy smoker and getting pregnant was impossible for her.

I agree though that she took things one day at time, and has become very confident and focused in her work. Also it really helped her that she had a very close family supporting her. And friends that did not run to the press with stories.

I agree that Kate has won by plodding on. She hasn't sought to change the world, she's been just stuck to the plan and the plan is: be the GF, be the bride, be the brood mare young mother, and then be the consort to a King in training. And do it all as quietly, pleasantly and with as little controversy as poss.

You can critisise the plan for being boring but then after that there's not much else to go with. Except her fashion - but it's boring to keep saying it's boring. Her weight - but slimness doesn't give those unkind pap shots. And there's her spending - but that's not particular to her.

I think she's been pretty canny.

The pictures of Leti and Sophia remind me of pictures of the Queen, Philip and the Queen Mother. How infuriating to forever have your mother in law, sister in law, and daughters in law tag along at big events, outshining you in the sparkly jewels stakes? Grin

I agree Queen Does anyone wonder how nice Queen Sofia really is? She always seems to hold hands with her granddaughters. It all seems a so forced and overpowering...I am not surprised that Leti went a bit bonkers at her that time!! I reckon they are all smiling through gritted teeth and waiting for their real holiday (without MIL) to begin.

I saw an amusing tweet with a picture of two DM headlines from the SAME day. About that Google retreat - the one was all gushing about how William and Kate were there, driving change etc. The second was about the massive cost and environmental impact of harry and other celebs flying in on private planes.

Kate took a LOT of heat in the beginning, but as a PP has said, a lot of it was about her being too "common" and not working enough etc. And so she's been able to turn that around by behaving impeccably, appropriately etc.

The knives are out for Meghan for everything she does. And now Harry too. It's a very different thing and will be hard to get away from. I sense that her and harry don't really care though as they get plenty of positive reinforcement elsewhere.

Why no pictures from the regatta yet? Surely it starts early in the morning!?

Being very tan doesn’t suit Kate. She def looks better “paler”.
The more I look at the Knitted frilly top the more I hate it, Confused
Honestly I would have much preferred a Breton and jeans on her than this odd mismatched outfit.

Like her top, hate the trousers, love the Superga's - my favourite brand of pumps :)

Her hair looks great, bit more natural looking. Think she looks good with a tan too.

Kate's top looks as though the design is based on a Victorian bathing costume, so quite appropriate for the Isle of Wight! Grin
I like her trousers though.

I hate this outfit. But am annoyed with myself for hating it. It's different to her usual and she's probably aiming for comfortable. and this should make me happy. But I hate it. I think if the top was a bit longer or a bit less fitted or a bit less high it might be better. I quite like the colours and stripes in a sort of "it makes it stand out" sort of way. And I like the trousers. But the top is just weird.

Not wild about the hair either.

Oh, that outfit is AWFUL. It accentuates her long torso so much, she looks freakish!

I mean, she has a long torso and you can’t exactly hide it, but to draw attention to it like that, it makes her legs look almost stumpy.

I think separately both the top and trousers could work the top I think would look fine with her infamous skinny jeans and the trousers with a more floaty top/blouse but together absolutely not!

I agree we will see a change for the race that isn't boat practical

It’s not my fave look by any means but I’m going to stick to my guns and say good for her for trying something new and different! If you’re not a natural fashionista and you want to break your rules and be adventurous with what you wear mistakes will likely be made unless you a) have a stylist and b) that stylist is very good.

The colours/stripes are great and suit her nicely IMO but the frills are letting it down - I don’t mind the frills/peplum but they’re just not right for her in that configuration.

I’m encouraged that she’s experimenting, though.

Yes I agree I think as separates the pieces are fine, I just don’t think the outfit is a total winner. But it wins simply by virtue of not being the same boring thing one expects at events like this. And let’s face it, she can rely on her fab smile, gorgeous hair and never actually looking a complete fright, no matter what she wears.
