I've lost count of how many threads we've had! Previous thread.

Let's keep the gossip lighthearted and, as always, stick to critiquing the clothes rather than being overly critical about the women wearing them.

I don't think anyone has mentioned Eugenie's launching the first royal podcast, as co-founder of the Anti Slavery Collective, with her school friend Julia de Boinville. link I like Eugenie's outfit in the website pic!

Why should it be Smartworks' job to help men? Surely if men feel strongly about it then they can set up a similar charity, just like the women who founded Smartworks did?

Is it bad for me to say that I think Letizia looks very hard work, unfriendly, maybe a diva and completely unapproachable? Coupled with the extraordinary thinness, I don’t know, I just get a bad vibe from her

Yes, kind of bad. What are these qualities that "extraordinarily thin" people have? Kate's very slim but I doubt it's a reflection of how she is as a person!

Really, we’re really doing what about the menz on this thread? Really?

Daisypie · 01/08/2019 21:33

Just trying to understand the economics of Meghan's fashion venture. For every garment purchased, an additional one will be donated. So surely each garment will be priced to cover the production costs of two and it will be the purchaser who is really making the donation. Eg paying $100 for a shirt that should only cost $50.

AppleKatie · 01/08/2019 21:34

To be fair it’s a refreshing new angle to bash Meghan from 😂 she really isn’t doing enough for men 😂😂😂

QueenOfTheAndals · 01/08/2019 21:35

I know @Spudlet, what next? NAMALT? Better ask William why he's focusing on men's mental health instead of women's as well...

Only in the sense of it would be nice to have a similar facility available to everyone struggling to get back into work. That's not awful is it? Doesn't take anything away from the work Smart Works are doing for women.

QueenOfTheAndals · 01/08/2019 21:38

Maybe there's one already and if not then maybe some men can set one up!

OP posts:
Myimaginarycathasfleas · 01/08/2019 21:39

I don't disagree. I wasn't suggesting it should be Smart Works role, btw.

Wetdogloveshubert · 01/08/2019 21:42

Ahem

I give you www.suitedbootedcentre.org.uk

And @QueenOfTheAndals we're getting awfully close to needing a new thread. Why not something along the lines of

Won't someone please think of the MEN?!

In the hopes of helping men in need of single-breasted suits Wink

AdaColeman · 01/08/2019 21:43

Yes, I wondered that too Daisypie, it sounds like economic retail suicide at first glance. Though it depends on the terms I suppose, possibly the donated item won't be like for like, sell a jacket & donate a tee shirt for example.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 01/08/2019 21:44

Well there you go, @Wetdogloveshubert. I can sleep easy now Grin

Wetdogloveshubert · 01/08/2019 21:47

I wonder if the retailers are taking a bit of a punt that shoppers won't just buy the four items, but shop around each store, cross-subsidising the 1:1 in a way?

And Grin thought you'd like that @Myimaginarycathasfleas!

DontFearTheReaper · 01/08/2019 21:55

Toms do that don’t they? Buy a pair and they send one pair to a developing country I think. Obviously more than a pair at a time... otherwise they’d have a bigger carbon footprint than Harry

QueenOfTheAndals · 01/08/2019 22:00

I guess it's a smarter way to do it than to just donate a portion of the profits. Otherwise there would be questions on just how much etc etc. And let's hope everything produced is 100% sustainable, organic and fair trade or Meghan will be in for it again!

Although Archie's blanket wasn't actually produced in a sweatshop. Workers are paid the Indian equivalent of the Living Wage and work 9-5 hours in a factory with decent conditions. If you read the article beyond the headline then it says as much.

OP posts:
Wetdogloveshubert · 01/08/2019 22:17

Likewise, Toms now give shoppers the option of donating money to a charity, or the 1:1 shoe donation, as not everyone likes that way of supporting just one charity. Seems reasonable.

QueenOfTheAndals · 01/08/2019 22:21

Meghan isn't the first royal to turn to a commercial endeavour of course. Perhaps she's taken some advice from her FiL, who has considerable experience in the area.

De-lurking to say a new thread will very very soon be needed!
Something about Vogue and rogue? Hmm perhaps not - can't think of another word...

And I enjoy reading all these threads very much - both entertaining and informative- thank you.

QueenOfTheAndals · 01/08/2019 22:23

And just like that...new thread!
