Crikey, @curlywurlytwirly that's a great photo - but the hand positions! shock Can you imagine the hand-wringing if any of our RF posed like that? The tabloids have enough of a field day when W&K hold each other like that in semi-private times

I only just noticed! Nice to see the old King & Queen have still got it! Wink

QueenOfTheAndals · 13/07/2019 07:41

Has anyone told Kate??

The swedes in costume
Look at those shoes!
King CG looks dapper; European men seem able to do summer wear a bit better. ( time for Harry to take notes)

Queen Mathilde in Dries van Noten
It’s a nice summery frock.

@banivani is there no traditional dress for men? I always see the royal women in these outfits but the men just wear suits as per usual.

I suspect that national dress for men in Scandinavian countries would involve shorts. It’s apparently OK for women and children to look faintly ridiculous- men’s dignity must be maintained.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 13/07/2019 09:40

Looking at Bea and Eug in that photo it's so interesting to see who they take after. I think I see Grandma Barrantes in Eug more than anyone else. Bea looks exactly like her mother, but with her father's jawline.

I agree we don't seem to know how to dress our royal tweens, Lady Louise suffers from the same problem. I'm sure I've said this before, because it's a pet peev, but I really thing there's a corner of the market for fashionable non trashy 'tween formal wear.

AnnaMagnani · 13/07/2019 09:41

In Norway there are fetching Norwegian knitted jackets. My dad had one we bought on holiday and he used to wear it on special occasions instead of a suit as we couldn't afford one

He looked most stylish.

I don't think traditional dress in Scandinavia would be shorts - it's too cold!

My DM has a cross stitch of traditional dress of various parts of Denmark - no shorts involved. I know the Danish royal family do some visits and wear the local traditional dress sometimes but again I think it is women only.

Agree re tween fashion @Myimaginarycathasfleas. Letizia, CPM and Mette-Marit seem to have figured it out.

Interestingly, photos of Princess Anne as a teen show her being fairly fashionable in minidresses etc!

bertrand has it - there is a faint aura of unmanliness around men's national costume because it involves colour and knickerbockers. It's rubbish of course but there it is. There is a bigger tradition of national costume for everyone in Norway, and this is probably helped by it being less rigid (if I understand it rightly). In Sweden it's VERY rigid depending on region, sometimes village. Have a look at the first picture on this page for an idea www.skansen.se/sv/folkdr%C3%A4kter - and scroll down for a most fantastic bridal look! The Swedish rigidity is one reason why I've never felt I've wanted one - my family is from one part of Sweden with a fairly strong national costume tradition, but I've grown up in another part in a city which naturally doesn't have a costume, and the ones from the surrounding countryside don't feel right.

I agree that it's hard to dress tween- and sometimes teenage girls. Frankly I don't think this is helped by the British view on "how royals should dress", as I've gone on about before. If you were more relaxed about it and less judgmental about shit like tights and nail varnish they'd be allowed to wear more normal stuff like the European royal kids. (I'm still in flammable mode.)

I like the Dries vN above!

Finnished · 13/07/2019 10:43

Another lurker here - I'm not quite Scandi but you may guess from my username the neighbouring country 😄 (I live in UK though). As we don't have own royals, media follow very closely especially Swedish royals. I find Meghan's off duty clothing closer to Scandi- royals. You could even get away with blazer and jeans in almost any office.

Labrodite · 13/07/2019 11:45

Unreasonably excited for this weekend’s royal style watching! Kate at Meghan at Wimbledon very soon and Meghan and Harry at the Lion King premiere tomorrow! Hoping for some great fashion.

Helpmepleasenow48 · 13/07/2019 11:54

Just seen a DM story in Kate with older pictures. She's had an eye lift and a nose job? What I can't understand is why - because it has aged her. She has that dark shadow thing and having an eye lift would have made that worse. I can understand why she might have had things done but surely she didn't need to?!!

Paradyning · 13/07/2019 12:05

Can you link it Help? I can't see that article

Paradyning · 13/07/2019 12:06

Oh sorry do you mean this one?

Thought you meant there was an article about her plastic surgery!!

whitershadeofpale · 13/07/2019 12:10

They’re on their way! I’ve just been held up by two motorcades in Putney. Blackout windows so I can’t give you and sneak leaks on colours, but they’re travelling separately.

SenecaFalls · 13/07/2019 12:14

Here are some of the Norwegian RF in national dress, males included.

Kate's in bottle green. Not very summery.

QueenOfTheAndals · 13/07/2019 12:19

Any guesses on what they'll wear? I think Kate in a dress, possibly something literal, though it doesn't get more literal than last year's tennis ball dress!

Meghan in trousers and her trusty Panama hat? I thought she looked very chic last year in the striped shirt, though the trousers were too long.

Kate in Meghan green you say!Shock

QueenOfTheAndals · 13/07/2019 12:22

She is in Meghan green! It's a rewear of a D&G dress.

She's arrived early. Meghan isn't there yet. No doubt this will be analysed beyond belief!
