Afternoon everyone,

Protected Species has some pretty loyal fans here on Mumsnet (if you don't believe us, check out this thread from last year), and now they're giving one lucky Mumsnetter the chance to win one of their practical but chic coats.

To enter, we asked Mumsnetters to let us know which jacket on the Protected Species site they'd choose if they were to win and why.

Thanks to everyone who entered - this competition is now closed.

If you missed out this time, never fear - Protected Species are giving Mumsnetters an exclusive discount of 40% off the Waterproof Mac, Waterproof Parka, or Waterproof Commuter. Just enter the code MUMSNET40 at checkout to redeem your discount. Enjoy Grin

(Code not valid for use on the Rain Bomber, Waterproof City Walker or Waterproof Winter Parka. Code expires 18 August 2019.)

Protected Species haven’t paid for this thread, but they are supplying the prize.

Mumsnet carries some affiliate marketing links, so if you buy something through our posts, we may get a small share of the sale (more details here).

Ooh, Waterproof Commuter, size 12-14, in Burnt Horizon Red! It looks nothing like any other coat I've got, and even the name is exciting!

TremoloGreen · 04/07/2019 09:38

I would love the waterproof mac in dark storm grey. It would be the perfect coat for fitting into my work wardrobe (try to go for a classic, tailored look) but actually keeping me dry and protected from the elements. Finding things that meet both my style criteria and the sadly necessary practical criteria I have, living in the UK (!) is rare!

YumyumAndyum · 04/07/2019 09:45

Waterproof city walk in burnt horizon

Would take me out if my black staple wardrobe!

heidipi · 04/07/2019 10:13

Ooh so much choice but I'd go for the Winter Parka - it's unusual to find a coat that keeps you properly warm and dry like an outdoorsy coat while also looking smart and stylish like a coat-coat. Perfect for marching the school run and then straight onto work.

WeeMadArthur · 04/07/2019 10:21

The Waterproof Parka in Night Sky Navy (12-14) would be my ideal coat. It’s such a lovely length and colour, and I love the neckline. If I’m not lucky, I may have to ask for it for Christmas!

thenightsky · 04/07/2019 10:30

Waterprooof winter parka in size 12 please! Its my dream coat - not bulky, yet warm and actually waterproof. I've wasted so much money over the years buying coats full of false promise.

Epanoui · 04/07/2019 10:51

I would LOVE one of these coats. I'd choose the Commuter in 10-12 in navy. I think it's the kind of coat you could wear with almost any outfit. It looks like you could dress it up or down really easily. I also like the length - not too short and not too long.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 04/07/2019 11:02

The waterproof mac in storm dark grey would be stylish and flexible across the year given the yoyoing temperatures we have in the UK these days.

starray · 04/07/2019 11:06

I want some style and flair in my life, and the the Waterproof Mac would give me exactly that! It is the classic trench coat, but also looks so modern. It is waterproof and has an adjustable hood, so perfect for the British weather. The Burnt Horizon Red would suit my warm skin tone, but I love ths Sandstone Fawn and Deep Burgundy as well.

ShmooBooMoo · 04/07/2019 11:47

I'd love the Waterproof Parka in Storm Dark Grey or Night Sky Navy in size UK 10-12! It ticks all the boxes for me - it has a lovely, unusual design and is practical but not boring (great attention to detail), it looks comfortable, it's versatile and would look great with just about anything, it can be worn all year round, it's fully waterproof and not only has a good hood (with the added bonus of being able to tuck it away) but covers the bum too (no one wants a wet one!), it has a high funnel neck to counter wind. All in all, it's stylish, feminine and looks good from every angle, and according to the reviews, does what it says on the tin!

LoudestRoar · 04/07/2019 17:01

The waterproof city walker looks amazing!

IJustWantToWearDungarees · 04/07/2019 20:38

The Waterproof Mac in burgundy is a Thing Of Beauty. Perfect length, stylish while practical, stunning colour. Love it.

Lottie7777 · 04/07/2019 20:49

Waterproof parka in cityscape blue, size 10. Please and thank you and thank you very much for having me.

lightlypoached · 04/07/2019 20:50

the parks in pale grey. because it's protected species. nuff said 😊

Someaddedsugar · 04/07/2019 21:35

I’d choose the waterproof winter parka as it looks incredible and is a coat I’ve lusted after for a while now!

CallmeBadJanet · 04/07/2019 21:55

I work in a preschool. We go outside twice a day in ALL weathers, rain, shine, ice, snow. A Waterproof Parka, 16/18 in Storm Dark Grey would definitely keep me cosy and dry.

Nacknick · 04/07/2019 22:14

Waterproof Mac in storm dark grey - so perfect for keeping me dry when commuting for work or on the school run?

PomDeNlume · 04/07/2019 22:31

I'd love the Waterproof Mac in Burnt Horizon Red. My work clothes are generally quite muted in colour but I always like to accessorise with something bold, and I think this coat would definitely fit the bill! Smile

Flowerpot1278 · 05/07/2019 00:47

Really covering the waterproof commuter in 10-12 in deep burgundy. Need the confidence boost when I return to work after Mat leave in the autumn (plus I hate umbrellas and love a Mac for the rainy walk to the train station)

LimpLettice · 05/07/2019 00:47

The winter parka. I'm already the oldest mum on our playground, feeling fat and frumpy, and I've started all over again with a 9 year gap. Something decent, warm and stylish which will last would be a godsend Smile

Katnisnevergreen · 05/07/2019 02:09

The waterproof Mac in navy. A classic shape that is so versatile

alreadytaken · 05/07/2019 09:33

waterproof commuter, navy, size 10-12. Has a hood, a bit of shape to it and a practical colour.

Mummytwo78 · 05/07/2019 10:05

I’d definitely choose the Waterproof Commuter in True Black 10-12
So smart yet practical perfect when trying to look like I’m in control on the school run x

Freshstart40 · 05/07/2019 11:30

I'd definitely like the winter parka in black please to keep me warm.
