Royal style & gossip: What a smashing, positively dashing spectacle - the Ascot opening day

Obviously today's the second day of Ascot but given Kate's outfit yesterday, I felt a My Fair lady tribute was fitting!

Oi oi Anne!
And she's literal dressing with her hat pin

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 19/06/2019 21:56

Ooh Ada can you tell us the story of how you ended up with glasses from Grace & Rainier's wedding banquet?

Grace would be 90 this year if she was still alive/had lived.
Grace's grandparents on both sides were Irish (paternal) & German (maternal) immigrants to the USA.
Bet they never imagined (whilst sailing across the Atlantic in the 1860/1870s) that a granddaughter of theirs would end up a Princess!
Bet Meghan's ancestors were similar (well the side that wasn't descended from Edward III)

QueenOfTheAndals · 19/06/2019 22:10

@TracyBeakerSoYeah Meghan's ancestors on her mum's side were slaves, so it's safe to say they never imagined it!

My lord that was a long walk for Charlene to get to the alter! She didn't look like comfortable. Stepping veeery carefully all the way. I guess having to pull that big train over carpet would have felt heavy after a while and the heels might have started to feel a bit wobbly. Dress only just clearing the ground. Gotta walk all the way back again too. I'd say that's about as far as walking to the post office down our lane. Certainly wouldn't want to do that in high heels ! Grin

Stunning dress though. And the simple hair and veil. One of the loveliest royal wedding ensembles IMHO.

Laiste · 19/06/2019 22:12

very comfortable

frugalkitty · 19/06/2019 22:19

I read that when Fergie was getting married they found the practice train kept pulling off to one side, so they had to hoover the carpet in Westminster Abbey in a particular direction to make sure it stayed straight on the big day.

Daisypie · 19/06/2019 22:19

Wasn't expecting the Finnish commentary on Charlene's long walk!

AdaColeman · 19/06/2019 22:33

TracyBeaker The glasses were a gift from someone who attended the wedding, to my Grandfather who lived in the South of France at the time. They have their own certificate of authentication!

Max looks super in her pink outfit!

shedid · 19/06/2019 22:57

Ah ok, thanks @PinkSun9

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 19/06/2019 23:26

Wow Ada what an amazing physical piece of history!

frugalkitty · 19/06/2019 23:39

Ada I'm very, very jealous! My Dad gave me a biography of Princess Grace to read when I was about 14 which got me collecting her films and books about her, and I've been a massive fan ever since.

SeaRabbit · 20/06/2019 03:28

I was surprised to learn on Royal Hats

royalhats.net

that that hat of the Queen's is by Rachel Trevor Morgan: her hats are usually lovely. It's usually when Angela Kelly's designed a hat that they are not good.

DevonUkelele · 20/06/2019 05:10

Not sure if anyone has posted this yet - but this is what was under PA's practical mac. I quite like it actually :)

I rather like the animal print shirtdress on the Helen Mirren lookalike to the left!

I love that Anne doesn’t give a stuff. I’ve become more like that as I’ve got older. So are PA & APB friends or more? Interesting. It’s all quite incestuous!

banivani · 20/06/2019 06:43

I really like what PA is wearing, I have a soft spot for florals like that.

But frankly, what would the noise be on the thread if the DOS or DOC had turned up in a random looking from-the-peg-by-the-door coat?

AliasGrape · 20/06/2019 08:03

Just checking in, thanks for new thread. Love Anne in her sensible coat.

StCharlotte · 20/06/2019 08:05

Wow, PA looks fabulous! And a great shot of her waving to Mum Smile

Laiste · 20/06/2019 08:10

I think we'd all assume there'd been a bit of a crisis as they'd been getting ready to leave! Grin

Lexilooo · 20/06/2019 08:38

Wow Princess Anne looks fabulous! Lovely outfit and what a figure!

beanaseireann · 20/06/2019 09:07

Anne looks fabulous - what a figure!
Do you think she's reading QueenoftheAndals threads on here and thought "I'll show that lot!"

pinkladyapples · 20/06/2019 09:18

Good looking family! The girls always look really lovely. Love Leti's jewellery.

Like her hat here better than opening day one. Cant find a photo of her dress though.
