Obviously today's the second day of Ascot but given Kate's outfit yesterday, I felt a My Fair lady tribute was fitting!

@QueenOfTheAndals - yes, I think yellow too! ☀️

Anyone else notice Amanda Wakeley wearing agigantic oversized Anne Boleyn headband, photographed yesterday at Ascot ?

queenofarles · 19/06/2019 13:56

Regarding today’s Ascot.
Not very exciting!

Is the countess of Mountbatten none other than Penelope Knatbull?

AppleKatie · 19/06/2019 14:00

Thanks for new thread

The Duke of Edinburgh's friend, Penelope Mountbatten, is in this pic:

Looks like HMQ is in blue again on some photos I have seen on Twitter.

Horsemad · 19/06/2019 14:12

Hmmm, maybe yellow tomorrow - it's supposed to be sunny tomorrow! 😉

Are the junior Royals absent today?

I have a friend of the family attending in the Royal Enclosure on Friday!! Not sure how reliable he'll be for info, he's only 20 and I can't imagine he'll be that bothered about the fashion/goss! 😆

SunshineCake · 19/06/2019 14:39

this is nice.

SunshineCake · 19/06/2019 14:44

Carriage ride.

FATEdestiny · 19/06/2019 14:45

I have always thought (my mum.always told me) that had a should always be worn over the forehead, much further forward than you might expect.

Clearly wearing hats forward is a 'thing, because everyone does it and have done for years. But look back at that (and other) pictures of HM and PM as young adults, and no hats are worn rediculouly far forward on the head.

Why / when the change?

FATEdestiny · 19/06/2019 14:45

"...that hats should always be worn over the forehead..."

youngestisapsycho · 19/06/2019 14:53

Blue...

Laiste · 19/06/2019 14:56

@FATEdestiny same here.

Maybe they didn't want to cover their faces too much so they could be seen by the people. Less media opportunities for the average person to get a glimps of HM.

Another thing my mother drilled into me (along with the low hat) is that if you carry a bunch of flowers (bride/bridesmaid) you hold them low, just beneath the navel. Looks much nicer than clutched right up in the air by your boobs. I think nerves causes people to do the later though.

Nogravyforyou · 19/06/2019 15:00

The Queens hat is beautiful

Horsemad · 19/06/2019 15:02

Oh yes @Laiste, I totally agree re bouquets! Remember somebody who was watching me go in telling me to hold mine slightly lower when I arrived at church!

beanaseireann · 19/06/2019 15:09

The dressmaker who made my wedding dress told me to hold my bouquet down in front of my f*nny. Grin
Of course I forgot.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 19/06/2019 15:13

Thanks Queen

And Bean Grin

QueenOfTheAndals · 19/06/2019 15:28

@Laiste I was a bridesmaid when I was about 7 or 8 and insisted on holding my bouquet in front of my face. It was a fairly large bridal party and in the photos all the other bridesmaids are holding their bouquets where they should be, and there I am with flowers grasped firmly in front of face!

AnneEyhtMeyer · 19/06/2019 15:30

At a US wedding the florist told all us bridesmaids that the "flowers grow on the bush". We were shocked but we all remembered!

frugalkitty · 19/06/2019 15:41

The thing about totals wearing hats is that they need to avoid hiding their faces because then they don't photograph well. Grace Kelly wore a huge hat when she sailed into Monaco to be married and there was a lot of complaining by the press and people who'd turned out to watch because they couldn't see her face.

QueenOfTheAndals · 19/06/2019 16:01

Speaking of Grace, I found . She looks as miserable as Charlene did but perhaps she was just a bit overwhelmed by the occasion.

SeaRabbit · 19/06/2019 16:18

I think the Queen's hat today is hideous - the flowers look like something from Accessorise.

Wetdogloveshubert · 19/06/2019 16:19

Max is out at home, and looking gorgeous of course!
