Royal style & gossip: What a smashing, positively dashing spectacle - the Ascot opening day

Obviously today's the second day of Ascot but given Kate's outfit yesterday, I felt a My Fair lady tribute was fitting!

Not like she used it as a knuckle duster to punch Kate in the face.

While in the background Harry shouts "leave it Megs, she ain't wurf it"

Non catholic aristocratic men perhaps. But most men have been wearing them longer than that!

frugalkitty · 24/06/2019 21:46

Ooh well I’m dead posh then, I only wear my wedding ring Grin I’m not a jewellery person really, I only wear jewellery that has sentimental value, but I do like rings......I just don’t wear them (ahem, my fingers might be slightly bigger since I had the kids and didn’t exactly lose all the baby weight). Personally, I’m not keen on three rings together, but that might be because my mum only wore a wedding ring so when I was growing up that’s what was normal to me. Although, if I had a ring like Meghan I’m sure I’d wear it all the time!

Smokeonthewater · 24/06/2019 21:48

Yes Charles does that doesn’t he? It’s a bit odd really.

Smokeonthewater · 24/06/2019 21:49

Wear their wedding rings behind their diner rings that is

frugalkitty · 24/06/2019 21:49

Sophie wears different coloured rings too, engagement is white gold and wedding ring yellow gold. I wonder if the wedding rings are narrow because there’s not much of the welsh gold to go round?

Smokeonthewater · 24/06/2019 21:49

Signet!!

Mrsmadevans · 24/06/2019 21:51

Yes l thought that Frugal

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 24/06/2019 21:52

I like Meghan’s new ring, however it will date. It also does not match her wedding ring.

Of course all the Meghan apologists will say “it’s her ring; she can do what she likes”.

However, Harry designed the original ring especially for her and proposed with it. Even if he said he didn’t mind her changing it (what choice would he have); I can’t believe there isn’t a part of him which isn’t hurt. I remember the engagement interview where he said that Meghan likes gold < but obviously not as much as more diamonds > Harry obviously put thought into the original ring and now it doesn’t exist anymore.

Forget about the pr angle; what message is Meghan giving her husband.

Smokeonthewater · 24/06/2019 21:54

Yes Curly. I I agree.

SenecaFalls · 24/06/2019 21:55

I think there is less variety among wedding and engagement rings in the US than there is in the UK. In the US, engagement rings tend to be all diamonds and either a solitaire or triple stone setting. Wedding rings are either a plain band or a band set with small diamonds. You almost never see colored stones in an engagement ring.

Kate's engagement ring would be likely be called a "cocktail" ring in the US as would most rings with large colored stones.

Poor Harry.

mumdom · 24/06/2019 22:03

If it’s true, it’s incredibly crass and grabby.

I really want to believe it’s just a stunt ring, and the original will be back in place once she’s back to her usual size.

Daisypie · 24/06/2019 22:04

Hasn't she got better things to do than tinker about with massively expensive jewellery? Agree that the optics aren't good. The engagement ring is meant to be for life, not upgraded 18 months in! Princess Marie of Denmark has an awful (imo) engagement ring, designed by Prince Joachim and doesn't wear it much. I think it is tactfully put in a drawer.

QueenOfTheAndals · 24/06/2019 22:05

"Meghan apologists" 😂

I feel sorry for Harry watching that clip.

JaimeBronde · 24/06/2019 22:10

While in the background Harry shouts "leave it Megs, she ain't wurf it".

Then HM comes marching in and says "Get outta my pub Palace"

Becles · 24/06/2019 22:18

@AnneEyhtMeyer

I feel sorry for Harry watching that clip

Why?

Disfordarkchocolate · 24/06/2019 22:23

I agree @Daisypie, I'd struggle to wear that. It would be well hidden if it was mine, or at least changed to 3 matching stones.

noodlenosefraggle · 24/06/2019 22:23

Watching the War on Plastics and then the news just makes me feel its all just bread and circuses isn't it? They are all just fripperies to distract us from things that are really important.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 24/06/2019 22:28

@Becles because he sounds so pleased with himself for getting the perfect ring (making particular reference to the gold band) and we now know she didn't like it and a year later she's pimped it up.

Smokeonthewater · 24/06/2019 22:35

I think you're on the button there Noodle

noodlenosefraggle · 24/06/2019 22:38

I don't know what Welsh gold is like, but my mother's wedding ring and engagement ring, which I have is made of Indian gold. It's incredibly bright orangey yellow and a bit weird looking to modern eyes. I'd only have a thin band of it if I had to have my wedding ring made from it.

noodlenosefraggle · 24/06/2019 22:39

Ha ha And yet I can't resist BlushGrin
