Obviously today's the second day of Ascot but given Kate's outfit yesterday, I felt a My Fair lady tribute was fitting!

Putting aside for a moment that eternity rings are a marker of class (who knew?), is there a correct order to wear rings then? (And apologies if this is a derail)

I thought: like Kate (from hand down to fingertip) wedding ring, engagement, trashy eternity? But meg seems to have done it differently.

(Asking for a friend Wink)

Wineloffa · 24/06/2019 22:51

I feel sorry for Harry after watching that video too. Redesigning a ring that your husband lovingly designed for you is not very nice. He seems really proud of himself explaining all the different elements of it..

ElspethFlashman · 24/06/2019 22:51

I always wear the wedding ring on the inside cos then I can slip the others on and off as I fancy.

But people who wear their engagement rings 24/7 often wear that on the inside, I notice. I think its just personal preference based on your ring habits.

Wineloffa · 24/06/2019 22:53

I wear my wedding ring on the inside, engagement in the middle and eternity in the outside. Mainly because that’s how they fit together best.

ElspethFlashman · 24/06/2019 22:54

And OH MY GOD WHY LITERALLY CHANGE IT TO YOUR PREVIOUS RING FFS MEG CHRIST ALMIGHTY DO I NEED TO DO A POWERPOINT PRESENTATION OF WHY THAT MAY BE A BAD IDEA GOOD LORD!

PinguDance · 24/06/2019 22:55

tbf I've never thought about eternity rings as much as I have this evening and although I said they seem tacky if someone gave me one I probably wouldn't send it back, you know..

The 'push present' aspect of them is a bit distasteful though.

BertrandRussell · 24/06/2019 23:00

Eternity rings were invented by De Beers in the 1960s because they had a glut of diamond chips. The advertising slogan? “You married her for better for worse- show her how you’re doing”
Can you imagine anything tackier?

Daisypie · 24/06/2019 23:17

The optics are so wrong because a) it makes her look like a fussy diva and b) she has married into the literal embodiment of tradition for UK culture and she appears not to respect that. That ring should be retained in its original form as a piece of history, not updated to match trends. Or to be an identikit of the ring Trevor gave her!

PinguDance · 24/06/2019 23:27

Lol I don’t think ‘not adding extra diamonds to jewellery that already had diamonds on it’ is a tradition that the RF have been sticking to very well - not if my royal diamonds book is anything to go by!

frugalkitty · 24/06/2019 23:40

noodle my mums wedding ring is 24ct gold and has an orange tinge to the yellow. Could be age though, she's had it on 58 years! She lost her engagement years ago so my dad bought her a new one for their 55th anniversary.

SenecaFalls · 25/06/2019 00:19

Asking for a friend

I have a wide gold wedding band; my engagement ring is a diamond solitaire on a thin gold band. When I wear the eternity band, which is not all the time, I wear it between the two because that's how it looks best.

Happily, it's not a class marker in the US. We're all middle class here. Wink

ElspethFlashman · 25/06/2019 00:46

Here's all of Meghan's engagement rings, past and present. As you can see she actually added two eternity style stacking rings to her Trevor set.

You can't say she isn't consistent! Confused

I have a late rung. Albeit w signif8cantly less expensive sappgire😂 I love it. Never gets in the way. Top is set play not white gold as gold not strong enough to hold the stones in place.

*Kate ring

GlamGiraffe · 25/06/2019 02:10

They are definitely supposed to go weddingring first they shall eternity but engagement can swap I it fits better.technically it goes on last.
This is because to are never ever supposed to remove your wedding ring so there should be nothing in the way.histrically 4th finger of left hand was though to have a vein leading straight to the heart.othing should be between the ring and your heart.
The Welsh gold rings all look like that because theycarextradituonal full court ringswhich you often don't see I high st shops. You get the in small independents. They look very different.

Paradyning · 25/06/2019 03:34

The DM are so going to pick up on the rings from her first marriage looking similar...

BertrandRussell · 25/06/2019 03:41

“Here's all of Meghan's engagement rings, past and present.”

Was the word you were looking for “both” rather than “all”? Grin

Notmyrealname855 · 25/06/2019 06:55

Is it weird that both rings look the same? Not sure why it doesn’t sit right with me but if my other half did that I’d be so sad and not sure why! I know royals adjust their pieces but not to a personally designed gift and only a year in :( Assuming it’s a stunt ring now as it looks too bad esp rewatching that interview

GotToGoMyOwnWay · 25/06/2019 07:16

I prefer the ring Harry designed. But it’s not me or Harry wearing it. Yes he may be hurt but I’m sure he’d rather she wanted a ring for her! My dsil has just had her ring reset - after 25 years. It looked better before I think, but she prefers it the new way.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 25/06/2019 07:17

They so are, @Paradyning! And if they don't, Samantha Markle will helpfully point it out.

Harry, you numpty.

QueenOfTheAndals · 25/06/2019 07:18

Do we know for sure that this is her actual engagement ring and not a temporary one she's wearing because she hasn't lost the baby weight? All will be revealed at Archie's christening, I suppose.

CaptainBrickbeard · 25/06/2019 07:21

How do we know that Meghan redesigned the ring? Maybe Harry upgraded it for her when he got chose the eternity ring?

QueenOfTheAndals · 25/06/2019 07:23

Well quite, but any excuse for the press to attack Meghan!

Notmyrealname855 · 25/06/2019 07:31

Erm maybe but why only have the first ring for a year, and mention him being so pleased at designing it in the engagement vid? Never known someone to change their ring to their ex’s ring but that’s just me :) Tbh looks like the Fail has moved onto their house spending so not today’s news!

In nicer news, the Queen, Anne and Camilla all have events today/tomorrow so might have more dresses to see then :)
