Royal style & gossip: What a smashing, positively dashing spectacle - the Ascot opening day

Obviously today's the second day of Ascot but given Kate's outfit yesterday, I felt a My Fair lady tribute was fitting!

I think Pippa did pretty well out of her outfit at Kate's wedding though - her arse had its own Twitter account for a bit!

I thought Harry was nervous of what Meghan was going to say , clutching his fingers with his other hand until he could see she was fine.

I agree, that was my impression. He was looking down instead of at her. He relaxed as she got going but he was definitely a bit panicky to begin with.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 23/06/2019 18:19

I liked Kate’s MoH outfit at Pippa’s wedding.
The silk looked lovely and soft and the blush colour was very pretty.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 23/06/2019 18:27

Kate's MoH outfit was a diplomatic one. Pretty, but not so eye catching as to detract from the bride. Unlike Pippa and That Dress.😆 😉

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 23/06/2019 18:30

Pippa’s bridesmaid’s dress was pretty simple; and her bum was pretty flat. I don’t get the fuss about it.

IHeartArya · 23/06/2019 18:36

Think Kate seems never to want to upstage the bride.

LaceySqueakerSaysShutYaMouth · 23/06/2019 18:38

They were all swinging/fidgeting in those chairs at The Foundation Interview.
I could imagine HM shouting 'sit still' at the TV.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 23/06/2019 18:54

I thought Pippa's bridesmaid dress was inspired, it looked great from the back which was how it was going to be seen most. It wasn't her fault the world went bonkers over her perfect, wobble-free arse!

beanaseireann · 23/06/2019 19:09

CurlyWurlyTwirly
I agree re Pippa's bridesmaid dress. I don't know why people raved over the back of it or what the fuss was about.
I thought it was just me. Glad I'm not alone.

Mrsmadevans - I found your post really interesting! We give away a great deal about how we are feeling and what we are really thinking non verbally and i can absolutely see that, especially on a screen and while we're obsessing over what's said, these little signs would be missed.

Body language is fascinating and it's so easy to learn a few of the very basic little bits and pieces. As a total non professional i find it hard to concentrate on the convo. and properly clock the body language of who you're talking to mind you. One thing which is easy to try though is the physical mimic thing. If someone likes you or feels in tune with you they'll copy your physical movements while you chat. So; leaning while you talk, lean the other way, hand on a door frame, one hand across the body, crossing one foot over the other, resting chin on fist at the table, ect. I did it with the plasterer the other day and it worked and it was fun Grin

Anyway - as you were.

Mrsmadevans · 23/06/2019 19:46

Laiste thank you Smile , l must admit to playing the same game as you, isn't it brilliant Grin

IHeartArya · 23/06/2019 20:33

Heads up that I will be name changing again at some point as DM have lifted a thread I’m on with potential outing info!

I do wish sometimes that MN would put when we joined underneath our posts so
I we don’t get ‘interesting first post!’

Lazy journos at The Fail. Angry

QueenOfTheAndals · 23/06/2019 21:09

If they're not getting stories from here, then they're getting them from twitter. And I don't know why posters on MN think putting "piss off Daily Mail" in their OPs will stop them!

OP posts:
TracyBeakerSoYeah · 23/06/2019 21:40

I agree Queen surely writing their newspaper name down is catnip to the Fail & all the other tabloids.

itswinetime · 23/06/2019 22:13

Yeah the swearing at the papers only worked when they took screenshots they haven't done that in ages they link to the story and just write out what they want from the posts

Papergirl1968 · 23/06/2019 22:40

I can’t do links but there was an article in the Daily Mail on Saturday about Mike Tindall and how he is a good laugh.
Seems like he and Zara have a happy marriage.

A good review of Beatrice's ascot outfits over the years hear.

Beatrice At ascot

MotherofPearl · 23/06/2019 23:10

CPM is in France. I thought I liked her outfit at first glance - the shape works well - but I'm really not convinced about the lace trim, especially that big bit on the bottom of the skirt.

AppleKatie · 23/06/2019 23:15

I like that dress, lace and all.

MotherofPearl · 23/06/2019 23:18

Interesting looking back at Beatrice's Ascot looks - thanks for posting @itswinetime. Although I dislike the colours - especially in combination - I think she looks best in the green skirt and blue blouse on the second page of images - the cut and shape of this look really suit her figure I think (though the less said about the shoes the better). I also like the very plain navy ensemble on her, though there she got the hat wrong.

AppleKatie · 23/06/2019 23:21

Just went through the Beatrice pictures she’s changed shape over the years which probably doesn’t help with the dressing.

I liked 8/21 of the outfits, although that was discounting 2 of the hats 🤣

She is beautiful but definitely could do with better advice. Her and Eugenie have the ironic problem of the right genetics to be royal but not the right ones to be a model.! (So basically the opposite of Kate and Meghan!)

RomaineCalm · 23/06/2019 23:24

Just looking at the summary of Beatrice at Ascot, it's certainly... eclectic.

IMO B usually gets something right whether it's a dress, skirt, hat or pair of shoes but then matches it with something that really doesn't work.

I can't believe that there isn't anyone to advise her on style, shape and putting together an outfit. She is beautiful and comes across as being such a lovely person but some of her outfits do nothing for her.

itswinetime · 23/06/2019 23:30

Yeah that's what struck me with Beatrice if it's the right shape it's the wrong colour or hat ect, she does remind me of her mum (shocking I know) in a lot of ways so close a lot of the time but just off the mark. Interestingly what little I have seen of her 'non royal' wardrobe I think is much better.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 23/06/2019 23:37

If you count the photos in order Beatrice looked fabulous in photo 6 (blue splodge skirt & green top but would look better with lighter coloured shoes & hat)
photo 15 (the green dress just gorgeous)
Photo 21 (white dress with navy/black net top bit & navy/red pattern around the waist)

Beatrice has got beautiful eyes.
I think Eugenie has a look of Princess Margaret.
