Royal style & gossip: What a smashing, positively dashing spectacle - the Ascot opening day

Obviously today's the second day of Ascot but given Kate's outfit yesterday, I felt a My Fair lady tribute was fitting!

Great link Shedid. Wonder why ZP has a different dress in in one of the pics

Horsemad · 23/06/2019 03:05

I think that's probably what she was wearing whilst having her makeup done @Paradyning?

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 23/06/2019 06:18

Zara looks like Ulrika Jonnsson in some of those posts

THE Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will travel to Asia this autumn for a major official tour.It is understood the trip will focus on Commonwealth countries, meaning destinations might include Bangladesh, India, Malaysia and Singapore.

Sources believe there is a good chance of a visit to Sri Lanka, where a terror attack on Easter Sunday left at least 258 people dead, but less likelihood of a stop in Brunei, which has attracted criticism for its human rights record. It is believed China was considered but was ruled out.

Fuller details of the tour, which will be weeks apart from a visit by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to Africa, will be announced in the coming weeks. Kensington Palace declined to comment.

I’m looking forward to Kate’s wardrobe on the tour. She seems to pull out all the stops when she is in Asia.

Balloondog · 23/06/2019 07:27

Ooh goody! I loved the DoC's last Asia tour wardrobe Smile Wonder if they'll take the children with them?

Spudlet · 23/06/2019 07:38

Ooh yay! She's worn some gorgeous things on her Asia tours in the past! And it's too warm for coatdresses Grin

Daisypie · 23/06/2019 08:01

It has all got so political between the brothers, at least in my head, I instantly thought this is William reminding the Commonwealth who is going to be king.

StayAChild · 23/06/2019 08:02

Beautiful engagement ring Queen

I've got you to thank for the ear worm all day yesterday 'Ascot Opening Day' song. I was potting plants up all day and I was even tapping out the rhythm on the pots Hmm Grin

Lovely - lots of frocks to look forward to.

Won’t George be at school in the autumn? They may take Louis.

Doesn’t the Queen decide on which royal does what? I’d have thought that more likely than William saying he’d do a tour!

QueenOfTheAndals · 23/06/2019 08:19

but less likelihood of a stop in Brunei, which has attracted criticism for its human rights record. It is believed China was considered but was ruled out.

Neither are commonwealth countries so I'm not sure they'd be visited anyway, if that's the focus of the trip!

If it's a whistle stop tour then less likelihood of taking the kids, but if it's a longer one then I think it's possible.

Charlotte starts school this September as well, doesn't she? Or did I get that wrong? So I doubt she'll be going either, and most likely they will go in late, rather than early Autumn.

I think the Queen is ultimately in charge of the schedules. It will be interesting to see what visits and tours Harry and Meghan do once she's back from mat leave. Wonder if they'll be staying at home for a while until their profile drops a little and the rift rumours are older and less prominent? Or will HMQ send them out there while there's still plenty of interest in them (especially if Archie goes too)?

QueenOfTheAndals · 23/06/2019 08:28

George and Charlotte both @IHeartArya but I guess the chances of them being fined for taking the kids out of school are minimal!!

They’ll probably go for a couple of weeks.
The Cambridges have got nannies; so it’s not like there’s a childcare issue.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 23/06/2019 09:07

Summary of Ascot outfits

Autumn wins!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 23/06/2019 09:10

Happy Belated Birthday William

I feel really old knowing I’ve watched him growing up!

LenoVentura · 23/06/2019 09:15

Autumn always wins IMO. She's by far the best dressed of the RF but of course we don't see much of her. Of the more public women, Camilla and HM win it for me.
Zara often looks nice but she needs to wear bigger hats. Those little hats that are often quite vertical are too small for her strong features.

QueenOfTheAndals · 23/06/2019 09:15

Not a childcare issue @CurlyWurlyTwirly but maybe they wouldn't want to be away from the children for too long. Times have changed from when HM left
Charles and Anne for six months!

QueenOfTheAndals · 23/06/2019 09:16

I always think Zara's clothes look uncomfortable. The cut always seems a bit restrictive. She gives good hat though.

I don’t think W&K will want to disrupt the children’s schooling.
Of course they’re not going to want to leave their children for months on end; hence me saying it will probably be a couple of weeks max.

AppleKatie · 23/06/2019 09:21

Even if at school they’ll probably both get a two week October half term.

And no, fines don’t apply in private schools to normal people let alone Royalty!

If it’s three weeks I imagine it’d be across half term and they’ll take a tutor (or their Nanny will act as one, i’m sure a bit of KS1 tutoring isn’t beyond her!).

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 23/06/2019 09:24

I don’t honk they’ll take them; there’s also jet lag to contend with.

Archie potentially going to Africa has a negligible time difference, and being a baby; it shouldn’t be too hard to maintain some sort of regime...

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 23/06/2019 09:24

*honk?!
