Obviously today's the second day of Ascot but given Kate's outfit yesterday, I felt a My Fair lady tribute was fitting!

I've always wondered why PA got married again. I mean, she already had children & didn't need a man's money to support her, so it must have been for love, right?

I suspect it is because the rumours about PA that had been in circulation since the early days of her marriage to Mark Phillips had become a problem. Even back in the 80s I don't think the RF could deal with the idea of a female member of the RF engaging in affairs. Better to promote the idea of a Finally Happy Ever After relationship. Anne had to be made respectable.

I understand there are rumours of her marriage to Laurence going adrift too.

I suspect the close relationship between Andrew and Fergie story has the same attraction for the RF except in this case to suggest that Andrew has no outside interests. At the same time it solves the problem of Fergie having nowhere to live and couch surfing her way around Europe and America for the rest of her life.

If she was asked about her interest in education for girls then her answer was on point. She wasn't asked about the Foundation's work. She highlighted the fact that she was able and willing to contribute.

Smokeonthewater · 22/06/2019 18:59

Meghan brings everything back to herself and her own opinions. She sees herself in isolation not a part of a whole.. a very ancient institution which she is supposed to be working on behalf of. She is only interested in pushing her own agenda on her own terms. I suspect this is why the Fab Four have gone their own way. She wants to control the agenda with Harry as her subordinate.

If Charlotte goes to university will she be the first daughter of a monarch to do so?

For a daughter of a British monarch, I think so. Princess Louise, Queen Victoria's daughter, was allowed to take art classes at what is now the Royal College of Art. That was certainly very progressive for the day. Shocking to think of the long gap between Louise and when Charlotte will likely go to university.

Some Continental Europeans have been more progressive. Queen Margrethe is highly educated.

Thomas’s in Battersea takes children up to 13; apparently.
Then I think the Cambridge children will go straight to Marlborough.
I think Kate would be keen to keep all her children together.

Autumn in a jumpsuit today that's very similar to Sophie's. I am not a fan of the huge flares in the heavy fabric but the top is nice.

Éton was good for William as he was in Windsor and was able to see the Queen regularly; after his parent’s separation and Diana’s death.

Will be interesting if the current Royal great grandchildren go into the military

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 22/06/2019 19:23

Love the photo of Autumn; she looks fab in that jumpsuit

TyraAllen · 22/06/2019 19:28

AnneEyhtMeyer - I don't think anyone expects Tim Laurence to conform for the simple reason that he is still a private citizen, and does not have a HRH. Had he and Anne chosen for him to have a title (which would have been odd in itself as Peter and Zara don't) then there would have been an expectation on him.

It won't be until Charlotte is an adult that we will see the expectations on a man joining the family (assuming that's what she wants!), and the last time before that will have been Princess Margaret's husbands, so quite a gap.

escapade1234 · 22/06/2019 19:28

Autumn looks amazing in that jumpsuit. You don’t often see her look so modern.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 22/06/2019 19:31

Yes Tyra, you're right, but I can't imagine the same happening with Sophie for example, if they had refused a royal title. I may be wrong but I think a lot more is expected of women marrying into the family.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 22/06/2019 19:31

HM looks fabulous in this colour

No-one seems to have posted any Ascot pictures today. I don't think I remember seeing HM's brooch before. Autumn's jumpsuit is much more appealing than Sophie's from earlier this week - an attractive shade of blue and not so much like wearing clown trousers.

Ah, cross post sorry Curly. My pictures didn't post either.

That will teach me to refresh Hmm

Disfordarkchocolate · 22/06/2019 19:38

Love Autumn's jumpsuit. Great colour and hat.

BertrandRussell · 22/06/2019 19:38

That jumpsuit looks as if it would twist round your legs as you walk.

I remember wearing jumpsuits Bach in the dawn of time, but they were either slinky and evening or very casual. I don’t think this semi formal idea works, really. Maybe in a pattered fabric? The plain looks very blocky.....

beanaseireann · 22/06/2019 19:45

Autumn looks very summery Wink

I don't for a minute think A and F will get back together again.
I think it is as Mathanxiety says - "..... to suggest Andrew has no outside interests."
and it suits Fergie- she has a base.

PoorAnnie · 22/06/2019 20:05

I have been catching up on the threads as haven't been able to read them for a few days. Queen, I just want to say thanks for starting them and your ring is beautiful.

My favourite Ascot outfit has been Eugenie's green dress.

beanaseireann · 22/06/2019 20:21

QueenoftheAndals
What was the name of the first thread on Royal style please ?

Mrsmadevans · 22/06/2019 21:05

Autumn looks lovely, very pretty shade of blue and l love her hat . Thank you for the pics Wetdog & Curly. The Queen has looked so lovely this Ascot , she really has. Her brooch is a new one on me too Wetdog . Am going to see the video of the foundation launch see if l can see any eye rolling Grin

AppleKatie · 22/06/2019 21:10

Autumn carries an outfit better than Sophie. Which isn’t meant nastily more as a statement of unfortunate fact (I after all would look like a blue whale with legs if I tried to wear either of them).

The style of Autumns is a bit better than Sophie’s but not a lot!

Nanna50 · 22/06/2019 21:11

I watched the foundation interview today (had no interest before these threads Hmm) I thought MM came across more confident than any of them. Particularly when she spoke about different opinions facilitating good ideas. No fudging or mumbling from her.

Stravapalava · 22/06/2019 21:13

Queen looks ace, I love her in yellow and the brooch is gorge. I usually like Autumn's style, but I don't like the jumpsuit. I much preferred the flowery dress from the other day.

Was Zara there today?
