Previous thread

Now that the Orange One has gone, it's almost time for a visit from the Oranje One! Yes, Queen Max will be attending next Monday's Garter ceremony. It'll be a triplicate fashion face-off between her, Letizia and Kate - who will emerge victorious?

When is Ladies Day? Apparently tomorrow is the Duke of Cambridge Stakes, so that's the most likely appearance for W&K.

I am not sure if we've discussed it before, but I do love that pearl necklace/choker of Camillas. It's fab. Does the central piece change according to outfit? I thought it was a sapphire based thing but i looked red at Garter?

QueenOfTheAndals · 18/06/2019 10:16

I think I've seen photos of Diana wearing a pearl and sapphire choker?

Apparently the Cambridges are planning another tour to a European country. If it's Spain or the Netherlands then no prizes for guessing what Kate, ever the literal dresser, will wear...

In royal cuteness, Estelle has attended the Women's World Cup and the Monegasque twins were at a TV awards ceremony. Jacques is enjoying himself but Gabriella doesn't look too keen on one of the characters! He's very much like Charlene and I always think she has such a look of aunt Stephanie.

I agree about Anne and Zara, very attractive with the sort of look that has staying power into old age.

Paradyning · 18/06/2019 11:25

@BlingLoving Camilla's central stone is a Topaz

diana’s choker

SenecaFalls · 18/06/2019 11:48

I think that Harry will become a knight of the Garter when Charles is king. All of the Queen's children are members and I think he will carry on that tradition.

BlingLoving · 18/06/2019 11:58

What happened to Diana's choker? Have we seen it? I do like that style generally and Camilla's always looks fab. She wore it to the state dinner with Trump I think.

QueenOfTheAndals · 18/06/2019 12:00

I thought I've seen photos of Camilla wearing Diana's sapphire choker?

OP posts:
ElspethFlashman · 18/06/2019 12:11

No she definitely hasn't. She has a similar one with an enormous old aquamarine that belonged to her mother, which is possibly what you're thinking of.

queensjewelvault.blogspot.com/2015/09/the-duchess-of-cornwalls-three-strand.html?m=1

I strongly suspect Kate has the sapphire choker.

BertrandRussell · 18/06/2019 12:15

“I thought I've seen photos of Camilla wearing Diana's sapphire choker?“

Fuck me- I hope not! That would be taking the most skilful bit of PR ever a bit too far.....

BlingLoving · 18/06/2019 12:26

Oh, maybe it's the aquamarine one she wore to the state dinner? I think I love it more than the pink one.

BlingLoving · 18/06/2019 12:28

Maybe Meghan will turn up with Diana's choker? What flashy jewellery Kate wears is mostly from the queen's collection right? She has her extensive Kiki collection, but much as I love most of it, it's not exactly heirloom stuff? She's got a couple of bracelets and ear rings from Diana we've seen, but nothing super dripping?

Meghan does like her jewellery all very delicate, but actually, the multi pearl strand could work on her.

BertrandRussell · 18/06/2019 13:13

I think if I was Kate or Meghan, I wouldn’t want to wear any of Diana’s jewels. Except maybe something on my wedding day, perhaps. The recognisable things must stir such complicated memories for W&H and the wider family as well.....

Disfordarkchocolate · 18/06/2019 13:16

No matter how beautiful the royal jewellery collection is a lot of it says old lady jewellery to me. I'd love to see some if it remodelled, the RF has done plenty of this in the past.

QueenOfTheAndals · 18/06/2019 13:35

I must be confusing chokers then! Though apparently there is one piece Diana wore that Camilla does too.

I know what you mean @BertrandRussell, I find it slightly odd that William gave Kate Diana's engagement ring as it seems to me to represent a marriage based on false assumptions that ended in disaster for all parties concerned! Meghan wears her aquamarine ring from time to time but that's a cocktail ring rather than an engagement one.

Speaking of rings, I'm supposed to be picking my engagement ring up this week. I'm very excited!

That express article is hilariously nasty in tone about how awful Camilla is for wearing it.

Then eventually manages to explain that it is in fact a heirloom always worn by the prince of wales’ wire across generations.

So slightly different to Camilla grave robbing Diana’s jewels then 😂

itswinetime · 18/06/2019 13:45

That article suggests that the diamonds from the chocker are in Meghans engagement ring. Not sure if they know that or are speculating.

Her sapphire choker, originally a brooch, was a gift from the Queen Mother to Diana on her wedding day.

It is thought that diamond from the piece are the ones used for Prince Harry’s fiancee Meghan Markle’s engagement ring.

I agree a lot of the jewellery will have mixed emotions so maybe instead of gifting it as is most will be remade which would have the added plus of it being more in the style of either duchess.

BertrandRussell · 18/06/2019 13:45

Yes-if i’d been Catherine, that ring would have been a deal breaker. I would have always wondered whether William had given it to me as a dig at his father.

Quintella · 18/06/2019 13:48

If Camilla had worn 'Diana's jewels' during a thunder storm or a drought it would have hit both of the Express' sweet spots.

'Camilla steals our sweet Diana's jewels ensuring that Britain suffers highest June rainfall on record'.

BlingLoving · 18/06/2019 14:08

I don't really understand why Diana's jewellery would bring mixed emotions. It was her jewellery and they loved her, surely it just is a happy reminder? I love wearing my mother's jewellery and it reminds me of her.

Having said that, I am so glad to have finally met people who agree with me on the engagement ring thing! Honestly, from the day they announced the engagement I've thought it odd. Sure, give her a ring that comes from your mother's collection, that makes sense and is way to honour your mother. But the engagement ring she got from your father at the start of what turned out to be a terrible marriage? I mean, come on, you don't have to superstitious to think that's a crazy idea. I've never understood it. If I was Kate, I'd hate that bloody ring.

BlingLoving · 18/06/2019 14:09

ESPECIALLY considering this woman was the Princess of Wales. It's not like there isn't LOADS of jewellery he could use or have reset.

AppleKatie · 18/06/2019 14:13

I bought a sapphire engagement ring when I got engaged (approx 1 year before W&K did for the record Hmm ) I didn’t want the standard generic overpriced diamond so was looking around. I was nearly put off sapphires because loads of articles said they were unlucky citing Diana’s ring as ‘proof’ of this.

I must admit I did raise an eyebrow when Kate was given it!
