Unusual but lovely dress for October registry wedding

I'm looking for ideas of what to wear for my wedding in October. We are going to be doing registry office then pub/restaurant for the evening after so nothing crazy formal. Will be around 30 people present.

I'm not fussed about wearing white, am actually less inclined to as am very pale so can wash me out a bit! I have a lot of tattoos so needs to work with that. The problem is that people keep suggesting 50s style/Lindy Bop/rockabilly type dresses to me because of this and actually I just do not like that style at all!

I'm a size 8-10, early thirties, 5 foot 6, dark hair.

Any idea would be much appreciated!

Amazing! How exciting to feel so free to do your own thing!
My initial reaction when you described what you (didn’t) want and your enviable figure was to look at Reiss. I know you said no white but check out the white lace mini dress! Also look at their separates (silver knife pleat midi skirt ).
Good luck!

How do you mean “work with” your tattoos - are you looking to cover them up? Are they on your arms, back?

Congrats on the wedding! And October is said to be the luckiest month in which to get married.

What about something from Needle and Thread?

They're beautiful and special, and bridal without being TOO bridal. Plenty of long and short sleeve/length styles to give you options for your tattoos. And separates/co-ords too.

Why don't you go and have a browse around one of the big top notch department stores like Harrods, Selfridges, Harvey Nichols? You could just have a fun day out trying things and seeing what kind of styles you might like without buying anything.

picklemepopcorn · 07/06/2019 09:07

IMO, the key is to have a whole tatt showing, or none of it. I dislike edges of tattoos peeking out!

Where are yours?

Just to give you a closer look, they're all embroidered/sequinned and so pretty!

Depends what your budget is, because if you had a cool £800 sitting about I’d be suggesting “The Vampire’s Wife”; designed by Susie Bick (wife of Nick Cave)

GeorgeTheBleeder · 07/06/2019 09:51

The Vampire’s Wife would be brilliant.

Trying to be helpful I got lost down an Ann Demeulemeester rabbit hole for a good hour. Things all annoyingly sold out on the website but this would be glorious in autumn. Maybe with an outer layer (furry / velvet?) for day, alone for later. I particularly like the photo with the black vest thing beneath. Tattoo friendly?

GeorgeTheBleeder · 07/06/2019 10:02

Another tattoo friendly autumn frock. Same designer. (Don’t know why your OP made me think of this.)

Ninkaninus · 07/06/2019 11:08

I always go straight to the John Lewis website and look at their womenswear offers - there are loads of brands to choose from and their returns policy is generous so you can order a few dresses and take your time deciding which you like most.

Just make sure you switch on the ‘hide out of stock items’ option (top left of page) otherwise you will have to sift out loads and loads of them.

I’m getting married (registry wedding) later this year and I’m going to wear this dress which is from Hobbs.

I was going to suggest Needle and Thread too! Gorgeous dresses, and really different.

Ninkaninus · 07/06/2019 11:16

I realise JL is probably not going to do much that’s unusual, but I thought it might be worth a look anyway. Smile

bobloblawlawblog · 07/06/2019 11:50

Wow lots of responses already thank you! When I say work with tattoos I mean look good with as sometimes overly busy prints look odd with them. I have a full sleeve and lots on legs/ankles.

I WISH I could go Vampire's wife but do not have the budget! Under £400I think.

Reiss is an excellent idea actually, I had forgotten about them!

Am going to look at the Needle and Thread now.

Keep the ideas coming this is amazing, thank you all so much!

Definitely go simple then. Sharp lines.

bobloblawlawblog · 07/06/2019 11:58

George the hammered satin one is lovely, especially the colour. Not sure on the length though, not just because I am mega clumsy

Wait! I saw the perfect thing but thought you wouldn’t like ...

GeorgeTheBleeder · 07/06/2019 12:02

Here!

That's lovely George. No falling!

Rather more obvious (and still long) is Ghost.

John Lewis have this, which I think would be in your size, but also might well not be the right thing at all.

LimpidPools · 07/06/2019 12:17

I like that first one OP. Although I prefer the bronze to the red - less chance of the dress wearing you. Which arm is your sleeve on? The strappy side or the wider shoulder side?

bobloblawlawblog · 07/06/2019 12:21

Left arm so wider side? I love both the red and the bronze. I do suit that shade of red though, I wear it quite often.

Have you checked out chi chi?

GeorgeTheBleeder · 07/06/2019 12:41

Admittedly over budget but something to treasure. And transparent sleeves!
