Oh, she says in the article that she observed Ivanka and Kate deep in conversation. Thought you’d all like to know that

Give it a few days and maybe Kate will start a thread about I think it would be something like...... i was at an event with the In-laws and GMIL's guests came over to ask me to take some pictures of them (it's a hobby) I just wanted to relax and let my hair down WIBU to tell the cf no. I'm sure the in-laws won't be pleased I offended the guests Wink

I find it just odd that so much focus is in Ivanka , not Melania. Trump treats his daughter as though she’s his wife .
If the British tax payer is picking up the tab for this ridiculous circus it’s a disgrace.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 05/06/2019 06:10

Trump treats his daughter as though she’s his wife .

Trump is a sicko. He said he would date Ivanka if she wasn’t his daughter.
He is the ultimate narcissist; grooming his daughter to follow in his footsteps.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 05/06/2019 06:17

The Trump kids. Poor Tiffany does not look relaxed.
I really like the cape sleeves on Melania’s dress.

Oh, she says in the article that she observed Ivanka and Kate deep in conversation.

They both have 3 young children of similar ages so perhaps that gave Kate enough conversation fodder to get her through the evening. Though I'd have been hard-pressed to be so polite to someone whose father had made slimy comments about me.

I saw that Piers Moron had interviewed him but I can't bring myself to watch.

Because even he realises that his two eldest sons are idiots!

I find it odd that Trump parades his adult children around but Barron is never seen. The Obamas kids were much more in the public eye.

hopeishere · 05/06/2019 06:34

Melania's red dress was lovely. Agree Ivanka should have switched and worn the white the first night. She's quite busty too.

Neither of T May's were flattering.

lyralalala · 05/06/2019 06:45

I wonder if there was a switch of dresses for Ivanka. The white one would have made much more sense for the state banquet than last night.

She does often seem to be competing with Melania in terms of being seen as First Lady.

It’s ridiculous that she was in the meeting with the PM and the other politicians.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 05/06/2019 06:48

Maybe it was part of the deal of Trump becoming president - that Barron would be kept totally out of the limelight? Not sure the Bush twins were as centre stage as the Obama girls, but there again the Obamas come across as a very tight knit family and the girls were younger when Barack first took office?

Melania looks stunning in red. She seems to be quite animated in the company of Philip May.

hopeishere · 05/06/2019 06:54

One of the striking differences with American politics is that the Presidents 'cabinet' are all appointees not senior republicans. Even so Ivanka being there is odd.

How many dresses do you think she brought with her??

RhubarbIsEvil · 05/06/2019 06:58

Maybe Philip May is the only person who is nice to Melania, poor woman.

QueenOfTheAndals · 05/06/2019 07:04

Nothing poor about her at all! She made her bed and now has to lie in it.

QueenOfTheAndals · 05/06/2019 07:07

Theresa May doesn't do evening wear very well, though she's smart enough by day. Still, her job is not to be a fashion plate so I try to avoid critiquing her clothes. God knows she has more important things to worry about!

margotsdevil · 05/06/2019 07:19

I love Melania's red dress but when you look at the photo of the Trump children something about the hem seems odd on Ivanka's?

Melanie did make her bed but possibly never dreamt that she would end up in the White House so I do have a bit of sympathy for her.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 05/06/2019 07:20

Can someone link to the Sarah Vine Article please?

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 05/06/2019 07:22

Ivanka’s dress is too short. She is tall, so perhaps it’s off the peg. A couple more inches so that just the toes of her shoes showed would have been better.

frugalkitty · 05/06/2019 07:40

I wonder at which point Trump decided to change course.....I do feel for melania as the life she leads now is probably not the one she signed up for. At a guess most First Ladies have some path in front of them early on in their marriage leading the way to political heights.

As for Ivanka, a daughter is always your daughter whereas for Trump, wives tend to come and go......

BeverlyGoldberg · 05/06/2019 07:50

Apologies if this has been covered but Rose not wearing her wedding rings is a bit WTF?

I had very swollen fingers in pregnancy but managed to find some bling that fitted and I wasn't going to a state banquet, seen in public for the first time since rumours of me bonking a married heir to the throne.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 05/06/2019 07:53

I did think Rose was wearing the State Banquet version of sackcloth and ashes.

Found the Sarah Vine DM article
I found it a really interesting description of the evening.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 05/06/2019 07:55

No, I can't feel sorry for Melania I'm afraid. She knew what she was marrying, and she played hard to get to reel him in. There are transactional benefits for her too. There are a lot of perks to being FLOTUS.

I find them all utterly creepy and shameless. I can't even wax lyrical about Melania and Ivanka's so called beauty since it's all surgically achieved.

And if I hear "Special Relationship" one more time I shall scream. Yes, they helped us out in the war, probably saved us from losing it, but don't they go on about it! Especially given that any war the Americans try to fight on their own they are spectacularly shit at.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 05/06/2019 08:00

So we will have d day commemoration in Portsmouth.
My money is on Melania in a trench coat, given the weather.
I wonder whether Ivanka will show up or is already heading back to DC?

frugalkitty · 05/06/2019 08:05

The weather is alright down here today, although after my washing got rained on yesterday my weather app might be telling lies. It will be breezy though.

TyraAllen · 05/06/2019 08:13

One of the NYT reporters has a piece today positioning the Trump family as 'American Royals' : www.nytimes.com/2019/06/04/world/europe/royal-family-donald-trump.html

The sons and Tiffany are private citizens so they/Trump would have to fund their travel/clothes, although I expect he will find a way to get someone else (either the US taxpayer or his campaign) to foot the bill.

IHeartArya · 05/06/2019 08:18

Interesting article thanks Curly
