Meghan was also rude about Trump (said she'd leave the US if he became President) so not exactly blameless.

She wasn't alone.

She has the right as an American to hold opinions on Trump. I don't know why she would want to distance herself in any way from her remarks. Despite Trump's obvious preference for the alternative, America is still a country where citizens and lawful residents have the right to hold and express opinions.

For his part, Trump has the right to respond to her comments. He has the absolute right to end up looking like a petty, vindictive, orange dick who holds grudges.

And Harry also has the right to reply.

He could easily get a diplomatic cold. It's not unheard of.

yellowalstroemeria · 01/06/2019 22:04

Gosh, Charlotte Casiraghi's dress was disappointing. Those bows were really unflattering- and that's on her. Quite a feat Shock

Hope it was just a civil outfit and we see the cathedral dress + veil!

Daisypie · 01/06/2019 22:06

The schedule looks very much like they are all sharing the pain out and taking one for the team. Trump also previously made sleazy remarks about both Kate and Diana so neither prince must feel like meeting him. I just hope he doesn't block the Queen walking like he did last time.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 01/06/2019 22:07

I posted a link to some of Cha lottes's fashion on the last thread. Most of her clothes are just hideous, it's just she is so ridiculously beautiful that she gets away with it.
Princess Caroline at the same age was perfect my dressed, but almost exclusively by Chanel

AnneEyhtMeyer · 01/06/2019 22:12

I've no issue with Meghan saying what she said before she was married. None at all. But she said it.

Harry doesn't have the right to reply because he is representing the country. That's his job. If he doesn't want that job and wants to express his opinion on a head of state visiting the UK then he needs to renounce his position as 6th in line to the throne.

And as far as I'm aware all Trump said about Meghan was commenting on the nastiness of her pre-marriage comments. That's not the same as calling her nasty out of the blue.

Teacakeandalatte · 01/06/2019 22:13

To be fair to Meghan she has left the US.

QueenOfTheAndals · 01/06/2019 22:19

I don't blame her for what she's said. I just don't think Harry can pretend Trump calling her out on her comments as a reason not to meet him.

I don't think he's going to, that was just speculation on this thread! But I think it's safe to say we won't see photos of him meeting George!

Threatening to move to Canada is a favorite American political pastime for people of all persuasions, though slightly less so for Republicans, I imagine. It's a trope, and no one takes it seriously. I've been doing it off and on for years.

SenecaFalls · 01/06/2019 22:27

Except that my actual preference would be Scotland.

frugalkitty · 01/06/2019 22:28

Fab thread title queen thanks. I'm hoping for some nice outfits on Melania while she's here.

Wetdogloveshubert · 01/06/2019 22:29

Well at least with the giant Biscuit visiting we are getting plenty of fashion opportunities. Kate will be wearing her new sash to the state dinner - any guesses as to designer and colour? The personal seamstress again, perhaps?

iknowimcoming · 01/06/2019 22:40

A trumpy new thread - thanks!

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 01/06/2019 22:42

Thanks for the new thread Queen!

I don't think Harry will be allowed to cry off meeting the Donald. What the Queen wants, the Queen gets.😉

SenecaFalls · 01/06/2019 22:48

I think that Harry is supposed to be at afternoon tea at Clarence House with Charles and Camilla.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 01/06/2019 22:56

Here’s Sophie wearing the orders Kate now has.
So a pale dress. Here’s Jenny Packham’s AW19 frocks
Perhaps the pale blue Loulou dress with Capelet?

SS19 Thé Windermere is gorgeous.

I think megs should have to meet his tanliness.apart from the spectacular photo ops, she's an American in the british royal family and he's coming on a state visit to see the royal bunch. She should just have to do that actorly/ filmstarly smile have a cuppa and a couple of the chocs from the royal shop she serves when her mates go round and do her bit....oh and to be a fly on that wallShock
My main question is will Melania be programmed to talk on the outing? She doesn't look capable. I'm wondering what she'd chat about to Camilla. Mind boggles.

QueenOfTheAndals · 01/06/2019 22:59

Meghan saying she'll leave the country if Trump was elected is in no way comparable to the things he's said and done. If he thinks that's "nasty" then he needs to look in a mirror! Vile man.

I hope Kate doesn't go for pale blue again as it really does nothing for her. Leave the pale colours to Sophie and wear something in a richer tone instead!

Checking in!

QueenOfTheAndals · 01/06/2019 23:01

I'm guessing she would @GlamGiraffe if she wasn't on maternity leave. I don't recall Kate attending any state banquets after the birth of her three.

I think Sophie's sash is a foreign one @CurlyWurlyTwirly? Maybe Swedish/Norway. I'm not sure. Happy to stand corrected though!

Paradyning · 01/06/2019 23:05

Apologies @CurlyWurlyTwirly you are quite right!! I do stand corrected!
I posted this on an earlier thread but info on orders here:

Horsemad · 01/06/2019 23:12

Placemarking. 🙂

I'd hate to have to hobnob with people like Trump!

mathanxiety · 01/06/2019 23:18

And as far as I'm aware all Trump said about Meghan was commenting on the nastiness of her pre-marriage comments. That's not the same as calling her nasty out of the blue.

He has singled her out from the many thousands of people who said exactly the same thing, packed up and left, with no regard for the fact that she is now a member of the royal family, married to the sixth in line to the throne, who (though the possibility is remote) might be queen one day.

So I think in all fairness and even as a matter of etiquette it would be fine for Harry to put him in his place and I hope the RF treats him with icy disdain during his visit and tells him his words about the Duchess of Sussex are unacceptable.

DT can only pick on MM if he also 'names and shames' the rest of the Americans who had the same opinion.
