@angstridden2 At her age she's probably thinking of comfort above all else!

I think fairness to Kate she is in a bit of a tricky position at royal banquets ect she is 3rd down the pecking order so to speak with the RF women and then there is the guests to. She's always going to play it fairly safe with minimal wow because she wouldn't want to be seen as taking attention away from the guests an occasion if that makes sense. still no need to look like she let George and Charlotte go wild with toilet roll though

Baroness Willoughby de Eresby

One of the few English peerages that can be held by women in their own right. (Many more in the peerage of Scotland).

BlingLoving · 04/06/2019 16:35

The only problem with Melania's outfit is that there wasn't enough bling and I'm not just saying that because that's my name

She could totally carry off a LOT more bling. At the very least, some long, sparkly, dangly and frighteningly expensive ear rings would have been an improvement. He's supposed to be a freaking billionaire, you'd think he can get a few bits of sparkle for his wife when she's meeting the queen.

Have we seen this article re the tiara choice of the queen last night? Not sure if it is true as she has worn it at many events but i do like the idea she can throw little digs with her jewellery.

senecafalls

The Baronness is unmarried and so the title is going to be jointly shared by two Male relatives.

RhubarbIsEvil · 04/06/2019 16:45

She was also one of the Queen’s attendants at the Coronation. She is never interviewed. Her elder brother died so she inherited the title. She lives at Grimsthorpe Castle in Lincolnshire and her grandmother was Nancy Astors (not the MP but her daughter).

Seneca - is that the woman in purple?

SenecaFalls · 04/06/2019 16:49

I don't know, Bling. I did notice all of her curtsying in the video.

Laiste · 04/06/2019 16:50

''The Queen of England wore a crown with jewels known to ward off evil, gave a rare book to a President who has said he doesn't read, and said they couldn't stay at Buckingham Palace because EVERY bedroom was under renovation. She's my new spirit animal," shared one person.''

Well, that didn't go well. Let me try again:

Loathsome man

SenecaFalls · 04/06/2019 16:56

Charles Brandon, Duke of Suffolk married an earlier Baroness Willoughby de Eresby in her own right after the death of his wife, Mary Tudor. That Baroness was the daughter of Maria de Salinas, one of Catherine of Aragon's Spanish ladies in waiting.

UrsulaPandress · 04/06/2019 17:06

I agree with whoever said that it looked as if the Royal women had a pact to wear the least exciting frocks they could find as a veiled insult to the Trumps.

Anne's was especially grim

JasperRising · 04/06/2019 17:10

The Lady Willoughby who married Charles Brandon is a really interesting character - worth looking up. (She married at 14 and was supposed to have married his son. He was nearly 50 Shock )

SunshineCake · 04/06/2019 17:21

I haven't been able to find a photo of the Princess Royal but with all the comments I'm looking forward to seeing it Grin.

IHeartArya · 04/06/2019 17:22

I’ve been to (April 2018) - they proudly showed the room that Charles & Camilla had when they last visited. The whole castle was freezing!

And supposedly after Suffolk died, Henry VIII was eyeing her for marriage in the event of a vacancy in the position.

SenecaFalls · 04/06/2019 17:27

Not Anne's best look, I have to agree.

Paradyning · 04/06/2019 17:28

@BlingLoving I assumed that must have been a Lady jn waiting

JasperRising · 04/06/2019 17:29

She had a lucky escape there...I suspect she would have been well able to deal with Donald Trump! And that she would have had an impressive array of jewels for state events.

Paradyning · 04/06/2019 17:31

This is Mnuchin's wife if people think that's who Kate was talking to

I have the horrors imagining having to wear a white dress to a banquet. I would tip red wine all over it the moment I sat down!

All the comments about Charles looking elderly and not in good health makes me wonder what it would be like if the Queen really were to outlive him and how soon that would force William and Kate to take it on. I always assume that it’s more daunting than appealing. Being a minor royal seems like tons of fun but being the monarch doesn’t seem enviable at all.
