Who did KM walk in with, the only one not given a name in that link

escapade1234 · 04/06/2019 10:40

US treasury man

escapade1234 · 04/06/2019 10:41

Steven Mnuchin, US Treasury Secretary.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 04/06/2019 10:49

He probably sent one of his Secret Service suits out for a burger afterwards. Or beforehand.

BertrandRussell · 04/06/2019 10:54

What I want to know is who passed Trump’s white tie. The other American men looked OK- his was awful.

User8888888 · 04/06/2019 11:00

Does anyone else hate the look of the order badges? I know they confer honour etc but I always think it must make dressing far harder as they just seem in the way and a bit messy.

MoonstoneMagic · 04/06/2019 11:10

I think Melanias dress is awful. The bus is weird, it looks higher on one aide than the other. It’s too tight and I always think white dresses look strange.
Charles looks like he is hating every minute and not bothering to disguise it.
HM very smiley but inwardly must be loathing it too.
Don’t like Kate’s dress.
Sophie’s dress doesn’t fit .
The PM looks dreadful.
I bet they are all counting the minutes till the Orange entourage get back on their plane .

UrsulaPandress · 04/06/2019 11:10

I agree. They look faintly ridiculous.

MoonstoneMagic · 04/06/2019 11:10

Bust and side!

QueenOfTheAndals · 04/06/2019 11:27

It felt like the RF only did their bare minimum when it came to last night's outfits so maybe that was their way of showing disdain for their guests. The only way it could've been better is if Kate 'accidentally' had a pair of Charlotte's socks or George's pants stuck to the bottom of her dress!

Some eagle eye on Twitter has pointed out that Rose wasn't wearing her wedding ring last night. I guess if the pregnancy rumour is true then it could be that her fingers are swollen and her rings don't fit.

IHeartArya · 04/06/2019 11:39

I couldn’t get my rings on when pregnant

RhubarbIsEvil · 04/06/2019 11:45

I must be the only one who likes Kate’s dress!

Paradyning · 04/06/2019 11:51

Yes Moonstone!! I wanted to say about Melania's wonky busom. It's really lopsided!

ElspethFlashman · 04/06/2019 11:58

She's as skinny as a rake. She didn't look pregnant to me.

SenecaFalls · 04/06/2019 12:01

And do you only wear a tiara if you are royal, or titled? If Melania wanted to wear one, could she have done?

American women don't wear tiaras as a rule (except maybe with a wedding veil) and I think those tend to be fake jewels. I guarantee that there would have been a huge outcry in the States if she had worn one (does she think she's royal, etc.). Years ago Jackie Kennedy wore some diamond clips in her hair that had a kind of tiara effect (I think it was to a state dinner in France) and she was criticized in the US for that (Queen Jackie, etc).

I found a picture. It was a dinner at Versailles

I'm wondering if white dresses are a popular choice because they won't clash with the red, white, gold interior of the ballroom?

Melania is statuesque but her boob job is too much and always stops her looking properly chic.

Kedgeree · 04/06/2019 12:18

Agree with Escapade re TM being a fashion victim. I'm sure I read somewhere that her husband chooses her clothes and if that's true it might explain why they aren't right for her shape and often expose the worst bits of her her arms.
Unfortunately, the PM has a difficult figure to dress, her height is in her long legs, but her clothes often have most of the focus above the waist, which does her no favours at all. She's out of shape and looks really unhealthy IMO, which again makes her difficult to dress.
Clothes last night were generally pretty underwhelming, even though the jewels were magnificent, esp HM's gob-stopper rubies. Melania could carry off big jewels, but doesn't seem to go for much bling.

Kedgeree · 04/06/2019 12:21

That's interesting Seneca thank you.

SunshineCake · 04/06/2019 12:24

I'm behind but I really don't think Ivanka's dress was glamorous enough for a white tie evening. What do you think?

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 04/06/2019 12:26

If you can't wear full-on bling in Versailles, where can you?! I'd give a number of limbs to go to an evening do there dressed in all the shiny things I could possibly attach to myself.

spellingtest · 04/06/2019 12:46

Shamelessly bookmarking. Great thread of what I've read so far.

pastaparadise · 04/06/2019 12:52

I like this dress that Jeremy Hunts wife is wearing

Jackie K's dress looks lovely in that old photo. i wonder what colour it was?

Also wondered re Melanias lack of bling - maybe she thought its easier not to compete with all the royal jewels and opt for understated instead? Also harder yo wear bracelets and big rings with gloves (though knockout drop earings would have looked great).

Kedgeree

If TM looks unhealthy, perhaps it is due to having to cope with Type1 diabetes in addition to the stress of the job?
