Maybe the Cholmendley Tiara has been banished as a sign of punishment.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 04/06/2019 09:19

I quite like Ivanka's dress, the sleeves are a bit too casual, I like the rest though.

alldressedupinblue · 04/06/2019 09:19

@ElspethFlashman There was a State Banquet documentary in 1991 featuring Lech Walesa at the palace.

It showed the intro behind the scenes, when the Queen introduced all the Royals. Then the procession formed.

I can't find the clip, but here is a still:

Rose looks a bit glum in that last picture but maybe that's to do with who she's sitting next to!

To those asking about the Queen's rubies.....

Elspeth Apparently they all go off for coffee in the State Rooms after dinner. So I guess that's where the mingling gets done. Although I'd imagine it's choreographed mingling, with a MiG present to shepherd away any unwanted minglers from the Royals. Imagine getting cornered by Jared Kushner or one of the youuger Trumps in a mingling situation - you'd want a MiG then alright.

alldressedupinblue · 04/06/2019 09:37

I've found Rose in the seating plan. Nowhere near the top of table this time. Although that may mean nothing.

I’m curious as to why Rose Hanbury is there? How is the guest list drawn up, anyone know?

ElspethFlashman · 04/06/2019 09:46

Yes I suppose these things are tightly controlled. So no chance of being accosted by an over-familiar KellyAnne who's had too many sherries.

Spudlet · 04/06/2019 09:47

Her husband has an important Royal job of some kind or another, so I guess she's always there. And after all the press, if they didn't invite her this time it would probably be seen as proof that something really happened!

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 04/06/2019 09:47

Why do some of the women wear their sash from left to right and some the other way round?

Is there a significance to that?

BertrandRussell · 04/06/2019 09:48

Her husband is the Lord Chamberlain.

roisinagusniamh · 04/06/2019 09:49

Loved the Queen's tiara.

BertrandRussell · 04/06/2019 09:51

“Why do some of the women wear their sash from left to right and some the other way round?”

It depends on the Order-some specify right to left.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 04/06/2019 09:54

Thanks.

I did wonder.

IHeartArya · 04/06/2019 10:05

Think it would have quashed rumours to have her say slightly further up the table but yes there maybe nothing in it. The royals had a lot of Trumps to share around so that maybe why.

EleanorReally · 04/06/2019 10:18

I bet they wished the meal didnt have to be televised, I bet the queen wished it.
I wonder if they all ate from the menu, what about the vegetarians/vegans, Trump is a teetotal, so did he eat the port lamb?

EleanorReally · 04/06/2019 10:19

Is the lovely Lady Sarah Chatto there?

QueenOfTheAndals · 04/06/2019 10:20

Charlotte's blog has better photos of Kate's dress but now that I can see all the detail, I think I like it even less!

I didn't know Trump was teetotal. God, imagine how much worse his tweets would be if he was a drinker??

in the picture posted earlier with the obama's the queen isnt smiling but prince philip is, as are the obamas.

QueenOfTheAndals · 04/06/2019 10:21

@EleanorReally Not sure if Lady Sarah or Lord Snowdon attend state banquets. I thought maybe not, as they aren't official royals or HRHes.

TM often wears that sort of style, she does have slim arms, but I dont like it

StCharlotte · 04/06/2019 10:32

Morning!

I so wanted to love it all but:

Camilla – I agree with a previous poster, I wasn’t impressed with the dress and her posture was appalling. A good “foundation garment” was needed for that frock.

Ivanka – at first sight, that dress blew me away and I love Caroline Herrera. Until (a) I saw it up close and realised it wasn’t silk (how glorious would that have been?) and (b) the rolled/buttoned up sleeves – I can’t bear them and many a garment has been replaced on the rack when I’ve been shopping and they have these and they are so dated, I was avoiding them back in the 80s FGS! A folded back cuff would have been so much better. I do still like the dress but no, not for a state dinner. Incidentally, my autocorrect changed Ivanka to Obama… Hmm

Kate – Loved her make up and earrings. The dress was a nice shape but looked badly fitting around the bust. I felt I wanted to lend her some “chicken fillets”. In the same way I have been banging on about MM channelling Leti for daywear, I think our royal ladies – particularly Kate – should take a leaf out of CPV and CPM’s books (well all the Scandi princesses really) for state occasion dresses. They invariably look magnificent. I’d also like to see her and Camilla in different tiaras for a change, although Camilla's does really suit her.

Sophie – lovely colour but again, looked too loose on the bust and shoulders. See above (ha!). She was my biggest disappointment as she normally knocks it out of the park.

Melania - box ticked I guess.

Princess Anne – that dress looked like it actually had been dragged out of the back of the wardrobe.

HM – I don’t really like that tiara (although I love the size!). It just looks really seventies to me.

Theresa, Theresa, Theresa… as someone above said, for one who appears to care so much about clothes, it honestly looked like a bin bag and with the tan marks, awful, just awful.

In fact most of the British contingent seemed to look really slumpy and round-shouldered.

I’m sorry, I clearly haven’t got my “if you can’t say anything nice…” head on today.

BUT Sophie’s tiara looks a million times better now!

Sorry if this has been posted previously www.harpersbazaar.com/celebrity/latest/g27702742/trump-state-banquet-buckingham-palace-photos/

escapade1234 · 04/06/2019 10:36

The Prime Minister looked awful. Why does she dress that way? She’s tall and slim, she could carry off fabulous dresses but she chooses things that just aren’t flattering.

escapade1234 · 04/06/2019 10:37

I think she does enjoy clothes but is a bit of a fashion victim in that she chooses what she likes the look of rather than what actually suits her.

I suppose we all do that sometimes.
