The Marchioness of Cholmondeley usually attends State Banquets. One coming up tomorrow.

QueenOfTheAndals · 02/06/2019 21:15

Her husband has some sort of ceremonial role hasn't he?

OP posts:
Daisypie · 02/06/2019 21:21

Clenched jaws all round for the royals at the banquet between the Trumps and the Cholmondeleys.

AdaColeman · 02/06/2019 21:23

Yes, David is Lord Great Chamberlain.

QueenOfTheAndals · 02/06/2019 21:24

Maybe Rose won't attend, though if she doesn't then that'll just fire up the rumour mill again. Isn't she pregnant with her fourth?

OP posts:
AnneEyhtMeyer · 02/06/2019 21:24

He's the Lord Great Chamberlain.

QueenOfTheAndals · 02/06/2019 22:44

Rose is on Instagram. Or rather, her home is.

Phil Spencer is doing a series on stately homes in UK.
I must have recorded the series as Blenheim was one of the homes featured, which is amazing.
Well lo and behold what else popped up but Houghton Hall and the man himself David Cholmondely and a full tour of the amazing house. I haven't watched it all yet so I don't know if Rose features also.

Stravapalava · 02/06/2019 23:07

I'd hate to live in one of those old stately homes type places. They're not very warm and cosy are they?

VanillaSugarr · 03/06/2019 01:04

No, they’re bloody freezing! I lived in one and it never got above 16 degrees. Nice and cool in a heatwave, though, but I still wore bedsocks every night.

"might be queen one day."
Haha - yeah that's a real possibility... Hmm
Well yes, it is a remote possibility.
That is why I emphasised that it is a remote possibility.
But it is still a possibility.

The facts are she was a nobody when she said it, is now a member of the Royal Family and its now a talking point as Trump is coming on a state visit.
It shouldn't be a talking point for the President of the United States.

No matter how slighted 45 feels about comments made several years ago by 'a nobody', his remarks about the Duchess of Sussex are at this point completely out of order.

That is who she is now. That is her title and her status.

DT expects to be accorded the red carpet and all the pomp and ceremony the RF offers when he visits while at the same time playing the brazen lout from Queens instead of fulfilling his duties as the representative of the United States and all its citizens.

He can't have it both ways.

mathanxiety · 03/06/2019 01:55

For all the derision of Melania, she's a clever woman who when she married Trump had no idea that he'd end up President. She's not interested in being First Lady (and it's a very old fashioned role anyway). She stays in the background and doesn't opine about various causes just because of her husband's job.

So now the former trollop who peeled off her clothes for money is some sort of pillar of feminism for eschewing the traditional First Lady role, to be compared favourably with MM because she keeps her mouth shut...
I have lost track of all the irony there.

Give me an uplifting message written on a banana any day over that appalling slogan on the back of Melania Trump's jacket.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 03/06/2019 02:17

I'd love HM to be the one in blue when the orange one visits.
Or wear a frock by a Mexican designer, now that would be interesting!
Math I agree completely though I wouldn't call Melania a trollop. I just feel sorry for her, she's like a bird in a gilded cage. But then again who knows maybe she enjoys her life.

floraloctopus · 03/06/2019 03:14

Trump is far from the worst person we've had on a state visit

I thought Mugabe had been once ?

SlipperOrchid · 03/06/2019 03:56

I just feel sorry for her, she's like a bird in a gilded cage

Not at all. She chose her life.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 03/06/2019 06:48

@mathanxiety as soon as you start calling women trollops you lose more than "track of the irony".

QueenOfTheAndals · 03/06/2019 07:19

I wouldn't call Melania a trollop but agree with the rest of what you say @mathanxiety. And yes, it's a gilded cage of her own choosing - it's not like Trump was the kindest man on earth and has now changed. He's always been vile!

@Stravapalava I'd bet that Blenheim or Houghton are warmer than Buckingham Palace or Sandringham - mainly because the owners can spend as much money as they like on doing the places up and don't have to pretend to be thrifty like HM.

OP posts:
floraloctopus · 03/06/2019 07:32

They probably are. Alongside all this discussion of palaces I have an ad for static caravans in Lincolnshire, they are probably warmer too Grin

beanaseireann · 03/06/2019 08:18

I just don't understand how Melania could wear that jacket to visit migrant children. It's beyond my comprehension just as her still being married to DT is.

Paradyning · 03/06/2019 08:27

Who said Melania was a literal dresser a la Kate?

She's wearing a dress with Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament on, albeit abstracted, for their departure.

DT really is an arse!

shedid · 03/06/2019 08:29

Cross post there @Paradyning Grin it took me two full minutes to try and attach the photo

Spudlet · 03/06/2019 08:38

Good grief. I'm not sure which is worse - that dress, or that gushing caption 🤮
