This is very timely - a friend has spent most of the weekend trying to persuade me to drop the blonde highlights regime etc that my hairdresser has spent the past few years evolving with me, to go natural.
I’m edging that way but not quite there yet. My hair used to be dark brown, almost black - which I loved, never wanted to be another colour , was happy with the pepper and salt. But then it started to go grey in such uneven patches that I began to have lowlights, to even things out and then eventually this dark blonde mix effect, some lights, some natural, which I have do like and adapted my clothing colours to suit.
But the percentage of grey/white is growing and I am wondering now at what point I can drop the processing - I think it would still look too much like a badger with a problem atm .
I would not choose to shave - it really would not suit me, though it looks fabulous on others. I could to manage grow out quite happily by putting it up as I wear it long enough.
My DH is very pro me going grey, but he uses the example of my SIL who had very different hair, thick and coarse ( in a good, holds a style way) which went from very dark with even pepper and salt for ages, then a dark silver in a bob then the purest white in a pixie cut. Ive talked to her and no dye or highlights were ever involved . Looks wonderful but she is very stylish all together .
Will have a chat with my hairdresser this week as have an appointment and see what she thinks ( also long time trusted friend so would not be influenced by the money aspect !)
