I haven’t had it done but my friend gets it from her dentist who gives her a numbing injection so it’s painless

Jojoanna · 17/05/2019 07:07

I agree mummy

CodenameVillanelle · 17/05/2019 07:13

You post on mumsnet and you're going to get all kinds of responses. That's how mumsnet works.
I think it's a tragedy that women have 'personal insecurities' about their lovely, natural, expressive mouths and spend money having whatever injected into them so they end up with fake looking, identikit lips that have no character.

BecksDriver · 17/05/2019 07:19

I don't watch Game of Thrones but would never go on a game of thrones thread to say "I don't watch it and never would and can't understand why anyone does"
As long as lip fillers are done by a dr or nurse practitioner in a safe and clean environment and they have the products at hand to dissolve if a reactio were to happen then there shouldn't be any problems.
I think all the pics look fab!

YesQueen · 17/05/2019 07:38

@Harebel TBF mine are similar thickness top and bottom and I've been asked a couple of times where I get my fillers done (I don't have them, just Botox)

LIP FILLERS!!!!
Scion457 · 17/05/2019 07:45

Mummyoftwo91 fair point. It’s really hard not to say anything though when you see these beautiful women with insecurities created by a society which now has us thinking our natural lips are ugly. You’re right though, this isn’t what the thread’s about.

Atalune · 17/05/2019 07:50

You’re in the wrong place if you just want everyone to agree with you and call you hun.

Try netmums. Or join Mrs gloss and the goss.its all rainbows and unicorns there. Grin

BecksDriver · 17/05/2019 08:11

I don't think my lips are ugly. Just too small and I would like them bigger. So I got them bigger. Like my arse is too big so I do squats and like my hair is flat so I use volume spray to make it bigger. Society has nothing to do with it.....it's my personal preference

CodenameVillanelle · 17/05/2019 08:11

Watching a TV show == using painful and expensive products to potentially permanently change your face

HTH

BecksDriver · 17/05/2019 08:17

I find either neither expensive, painful or permanent

chickenchaser101 · 17/05/2019 08:43

I did this for me. It has made me happier. It's not permanent nor is it overly expensive. That's all I will say 😘

You may well have done it to yourself and more power to you.

However you’re being obtuse if you don’t think that celebrity, Instagram and the media have influenced you as to what looks good and acceptable.

As a mum of a Dd I find it terrifying that young women are doing this to their faces, and it’s becoming an accepted norm. I want to challenge that. In the same way as I challenge skinny young girls in fashion magazines, or women being naked in sex scenes in films and the men are still clothed. I want to offer a running critique to that dialogue so my daughter doesn’t grow up looking like a bratz doll thinking that it’s normal.

pineapplepatty · 17/05/2019 09:18

Does anyone remember Lesley Ash? 🐟

Harebel · 17/05/2019 09:21

@YesQueen of course I should've said that as I realise some people naturally do have fuller lips on top too.

To the others, yes I realise this isn't the thread as it's up to to all to do what you want to your lips. But to all off you who think you're doing it for you AND in no way have been influenced by society/social/celebs/friends/family/partners etc you're deluding yourself. Ideas of what = beauty are insidiously translated to us by all this & more. Some people are more susceptible to being influenced by it than others.

Surfingtheweb · 17/05/2019 09:23

Love mine, I had them done for the 1st time a few months ago. Theory said they will last 12 months & I'll definitely be having them done again when needed. Have the numbing cream, it's not painful really, you can just feel pushing, the Cupid's bow is slightly less pleasant, but you can just breathe through it 😀

Mummyoftwo91 · 17/05/2019 09:41

I wouldn't say I've been influenced, I do what I want for me to make myself feel good, I have my eyelashes done, I get my nails done, i get highlights, I wear make up ect all to make myself feel good, I do that for me, not for anyone else. I've had a temporary enhancement done which isn't harming anyone and it's made me feel great, I have the right to do whatever I want with my own body and I love that Smilewould you say the same about people who get breast implants ect?

CodenameVillanelle · 17/05/2019 09:43

Of course you're influenced. Big lips and big bums are the in look at the moment, as well as OTT nails and extensions and massive eyebrows etc.
You feel better because you more closely resemble the current beauty ideal, and this is something that makes you happy.
If big lips weren't in fashion, you wouldn't feel you were lacking something if you didn't have them.

Mummyoftwo91 · 17/05/2019 09:49

Again codename even if I did want to comply with all of the current trends and what society may see as beautiful I can do whatever I want with my own body and face I'm literally not harming anyone, I love that I can change parts of my appearance i love that I have a choice. If I want to go get a massive arse or tattoo my whole face that's up to me. We all have different opinions!

Mummyoftwo91 · 17/05/2019 09:52

Chickenchaser how are your lips today? My swelling has gone down by half, didn't get hardly any bruising either which I'm happy about

redwoodmazza · 17/05/2019 09:53

OMG! Why would you?
ALL the 'befores' look lovely - and natural!!!

Mummyoftwo91 · 17/05/2019 09:56

Redwood some of our after pictures have heavy swelling so may look very drastic 😂 won't look like this when the swelling has gone down, mine have gone down half the size since yesterday and will still take a good week to see the true size

chickenchaser101 · 17/05/2019 10:07

@Mummyoftwo91 they are much less swollen than yesterday but still very plump and bruised! I have work tomorrow so fingers crossed they go down today😂

TapasForTwo · 17/05/2019 10:21

I would say that most of us are influenced by what society considers "normal".

I wouldn't have fillers/botox/cosmetic surgery, but I do shave my legs and armpits. I just don't see women walking around with hairy legs and armpits. I also epilate facial hair - again because I have been influenced to think it is unattractive.

LittleLongDog · 17/05/2019 10:27

You all look fab - with and without the fillers.
