So be honest and let me know what you think. Also what would you think if you saw this on someone? Who do you think would wear this to a wedding? Eg age etc

It looks more like a top and a skirt. Haven't been to a wedding for a few years so maybe things have changed massively but I've never seen a bride in Ireland wearing anything like that. All the weddings I've been at have had floor length white/off white dresses bar one.

And Kate Middleton wore extremely pale yellow to Prince Harry and Meghan's wedding, which looked quite white or cream in photos. So etiquette be damned.

I've only been at a couple of UK weddings and one was less formal, the other there was a floor length white bridal gown.

Wear it if you like it.

Atalune · 29/04/2019 07:46

It’s doesn't fit you well and makes you look like you have an enormous bottom! So for that reason I would burn it!

I think something more fitted over the hips would be better. Or that the waist on the dress is too high for your natural waist?

Would you say you have an hourglass figure? If so fit/Flair or fill skirted dresses just make the bottom half look huge.

Atalune · 29/04/2019 07:58

And I should add I don’t think for a minute you have a bit bottom! But those please across the skirt bit are a no no

Bellsandwhistle · 29/04/2019 08:08

I do have a fairly big bottom! I usually wear fit and flare as top half reasonably good (i thought!) but bit of a belly and bum so they usually skim over those.
Goodness I don’t know where to start now!!

Any suggestions?!

Brief is must be elegant, dressy and not a light colour!!!!

What about this from ted baker

A skimming column dress? Don’t know if you like that dress but I like that shape for you. You look very slender

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 29/04/2019 09:06

Colour looks better and less bride-y in that rl photo
But there's too much skirt and it makes you look matronly when you look like you have an amazing figure- that Ted Baker dress would look awesome

JaneJeffer · 29/04/2019 09:56

I'm in Ireland and I don't think you should wear that. Get a different colour.

Tavannach · 29/04/2019 11:45

this?

or this?

Downunderduchess · 29/04/2019 12:08

I waited until I saw what it looked like on you. It's fine as long as you accessorise with colour, bag, shoes, hat etc. I'm in Australia, so not basing my opinion on anything other than how it looks on you.

cockadoodledooooo · 29/04/2019 12:13

I think it's beautiful. Check with the bride what she thinks before you return it. Personally I think it's very weddingy. I've been to Irish weddings and you'll look fab.

WokenUp · 29/04/2019 12:20

Brief is must be elegant, dressy and not a light colour!!!!

Haha that it literally the lightest colour you can get apart from white Grin
I love it though and it looks less bridal on you than in the photo

WokenUp · 29/04/2019 12:21

Could you not send pic to bride and ask for her opinion? Would she be honest?

user1474894224 · 29/04/2019 12:25

That doesn't look bridal when on. Imho.

DocusDiplo · 29/04/2019 12:29

Oh shame you're returning it. Looks lovely on you.

StCharlotte · 29/04/2019 13:15

It doesn't look so pale in your picture so will probably be fine. I guess you know what goes for acceptable in terms of dressiness in Ireland. Probably unwise to post the question on such an England-centric site though.

Nevertheless, to the Celts among you who think the English dress down for weddings (how very dare you! Wink), you should see formal Scandinavian wedding attire: full-on gownage even for afternoon ceremonies (and not just the royals).

Bellsandwhistle · 29/04/2019 13:36

Atalune I did look at that in blue but thought there was a bit much going on at the front with the tie bit. Is one to try on though. Also not sure re bare shoulders in church so would need a jacket which might not work?

tavannach I have also looked at both of those big interestingly they are both paler than original one😂 different colours I know! Mint is not a colour I’d ever wear and I hate the peephole bit of the neckline of the other but both nice dresses. Am going to do a Reid’s try on as like this...,

wokenup the bottom half is really not light! The mint one and pink ones above way lighter!! But I’m moving on - bridal and makes me look fat!!!!! It would have covered the summer ball too which was a bonus but I’m not looking for dress for wedding only and will wear an old dress to the ball.
Don’t want to text bride as either as I think that would just be s talking point in itself!! No doubt she’d ask her sister and her mum and if anything like here there could be mixed opinions and start a whole drama about me which is what I was trying to avoid!! Also if it was me I’d have said yes regardless of what anyone asked as I would never have wanted to be a bridezilla!!

BlueMerchant · 29/04/2019 13:46

I didn't think the dress looked bridal. I think it's beautiful but if I'm honest when you tried on I don't think it looked as nice. A bit boring maybe in RL. The blue one looks worth a shot.

Bellsandwhistle · 29/04/2019 13:47

stcharlotte I don’t think the English dress down at all they dress up but I do think here they really really dress up!!

OP posts:
Bellsandwhistle · 29/04/2019 13:49

See I think the blue is a very safe option and will prob be fine and I wanted fab! First wedding I’ve been to in 8/9 years and have the budget I didn’t before so wanted a fab frock.

I have spent the morning looking for dresses for you..a stranger I have never met 😂
Keep the one you have!! Once you have a beautiful fascinator, clutch bag and your heels on..you will look nothing like a wannabe bride.

I think you ooze utter elegance in this dress.

Please go against the grain and keep it!!

AiryFairy1 · 29/04/2019 14:54

I agree with @TheSunIsShining. Try the dress on again! If you really love it and you feel a million bucks in it, you should keep it.
It’s a stunning dress and you have the best idea of the wedding guest attire vibe (presuming you know a few others attending)

Alwayscheerful · 29/04/2019 15:10

@Atalune
Thank you for the link, I love the Ted Baker dress in green. I am looking for for an outfit suitable for an outdoor wedding ceremony by I don't want the dress to blend into the grass! What do you all think about the green?
I am following with interest. I loved the original dress, very cafe au lait in terms of colour but I am sorry it looks matronly on your fab figure.
