Surely this is the thread where Meghan has her baby??

@CurlyWurlyTwirly I agree about Meghan's coat at Eugenie's wedding. It was unnecessary to cause such speculation on that day.

I don't dislike Meghan and I think she's stunningly pretty. I imagine she has a strong work ethic and I think she seems warm and kind. But I just felt her action that day was one that would have inspired the Mumsnet comment - and I can't remember exactly what it is, but something like - 'when someone shows you who they are take note'.

catofaragon · 28/04/2019 22:07

I've met Peter Phillips. He's very twinkly and good looking in a rugged sort of way. Quite chunky.

queenofarles · 28/04/2019 22:37

I actually thought she looked pregnant before the the wedding, I can’t remember which event but there was one where her boobs looked massive. And I thought she must be a few months along,

when we saw her at the wedding, even my DCs nanny said she looked very pregnant !

I think Meghan acts impulsively at times. It’s unintentional, but she does love the attention.

justasking111 · 28/04/2019 22:39

@catofaragon that picture was carefully taken as have many others to manipulate us. The Daily Fail editor who has whipped up so much disinformation has a sister who was a school friend and later a Lady in Waiting to Diana Princess of Wales. Diana later became a godmother to her daughter. Just a reason to be a little sceptical of what is printed.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 28/04/2019 23:22

Harry is estimated to be worth 40 million, from the trust fund left by QM and from Diana's estate, Meghan 5 million, so a few grand is nothing to them.

I wonder if they have joint finances?

LoversLane · 28/04/2019 23:51

Unless the baby is here very very soon, we will be on a new thread before they are born!

Daisypie · 29/04/2019 00:12

Meghan's coat at the wedding was practically the only time in the pregnancy she wore something that looked like maternity clothes.

SenecaFalls · 29/04/2019 00:18

So what should she have worn? Just a few days later her bump was clearly showing.

mathanxiety · 29/04/2019 00:51

I think she wore something completely appropriate. I myself have worn an open cardigan/jacket with a dress as it tends to hide a first/second trimester bump or even a spare tyre or two underneath very well. It makes it much less obvious. You can hold the coat or jacket strategically to prevent a side view or even a full frontal view.

Any dress of any colour on its own would have clearly shown the bump that was visible a few days later, especially if she had opted for a slim fitting dress which is the style she normally favoured. If she had departed from that style and chosen a looser style, tongues would have been a wagging too, and on top of that she would have risked a wind-related skirt incident on such a blustery day.

Navy dress with coat closed would also have shown the bump.

There was speculation from the day they were married that they would be trying for a baby asap, given her age, Harry's professed fondness for children, etc. No matter what she had worn I think people would have speculated. She wore a vertically ruffled dress at one point about a month before the wedding iirc, sparking much excitement.

Then after the announcement there was talk of twins, and now there is even speculation about when their next child will be born.

brizzlemint · 29/04/2019 00:57

I can't see much point in the speculation when they will have their next child, after all she's not that young (or that old of course) so I doubt they will wait that long. They don't have the pressures the rest of us have about affording two children or having to cope with work and child care issues.

SenecaFalls · 29/04/2019 00:57

Well put, mathanxiety. and everyone would have been giving her the eagle eye no matter what she wore. I do think it is interesting that all the people who have criticized her for what she wore almost never have suggestions about what would have been appropriate. It's almost as though she is being resented for showing up pregnant.

brizzlemint · 29/04/2019 00:59

It's almost as though she is being resented for showing up pregnant.

You would hope that attitude went out about the same time that women weren't meant to show their ankles.

mathanxiety · 29/04/2019 02:02

Seems she couldn't win for losing on that day (and many others). It's not her fault if people chose to focus on whether she was pregnant and not on the bride. Or the weather, or Fergie - there was a lot else going on and a lot of other outfits.

I suspect about six weeks after this baby is born people are going to start speculating about pregnancy again.

mathanxiety · 29/04/2019 02:11

I think the 'resented for showing up pregnant' comment was implying the attitude of many was 'how dare she be possibly pregnant at someone else's wedding when she knew everyone would be talking about nothing else but that'.

She had no control over the prurient speculation.

AhoyDelBoy · 29/04/2019 03:07

One of my very favourite pictures of the DoC, while she was still Kate Middleton, in honour of their wedding anniversary 👰🏼

Paradyning · 29/04/2019 03:23

I always thought her hair looked wild on those pics. Reckon she had a rough blow dry so the tiara had something to stick to the next day

brizzlemint · 29/04/2019 05:45

Just noticed that the Windsor Knot is 99p on the kindle today, it's described as being about Charles and Camilla and Diana's legacy.
Written by a journalist of course. It's not my thing but it might be somebody else's.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 29/04/2019 05:52

Thanks @AhoydelBoy
I had not see that clip of Kate before. There was so much security at the Goring. It must have been lovely for her to spend her last single night with her whole family instead of shut away at Clarence House

catofaragon · 29/04/2019 06:26

@justasking111 I'm not sure what picture you mean, I was just talking about the wedding coverage generally. The way the coat was buttoned immediately caused speculation. I just didn't think it was necessary on Eugenie's wedding day.

Hope they baby comes soon!

Rhubarbisevil · 29/04/2019 06:52

I think Zara is just being stingy. Diana used to give presents all the time, especially scented candles.

AhoyDelBoy · 29/04/2019 07:33

Yeh I hadn’t seen the video footage either Curly, that’s a great instagram page Halo
I can’t believe it’s been 8 years! I still remember watching the wedding. I’m sure I gasped when I saw her. I love, love, loved her gown.

QueenOfTheAndals · 29/04/2019 07:42

Some amusing royal family waxworks. The Camilla is quite good but the less said about the rest the better! I'm not even sure whether the last one is meant to be Philip or Charles.

OP posts:
SwimmingintheDeepBLUESea · 29/04/2019 07:50

those wax works are just creepy.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 29/04/2019 07:52

Those waxworks are magnificent Queen!

Spudlet · 29/04/2019 07:53

That suite though... can't you just imagine all three of them staggering in, kicking off their shoes, collapsing onto those sofas and getting stuck into the bubbles? That's kind of all I wanted to do the night before my wedding, albeit in a hotel room without even a standard piano...
