Evening all Grin

Apologies for the cheesy thread title.

Come and join the MN Perfumistas for gorgeously-scented chat (or Germolene and burnt frankfurters...)

Really, the gourmand - though I don't like it - should be Angel. It is the ur-gourmand.

Rose-wise...POAL gets a lot of attention but it's not a lovely-enough rose imo. For a stunning clear, bright rose I would say La Fille de Berlin needs to be on the list.

A classic chypre?

An incense?

A smoke or leather?

I love how we all love high end perfume, niche, celeb and Avon scents equally:)

Iambuffy · 16/05/2019 22:09

Classic chypre?
Estee Lauder knowing

Iambuffy · 16/05/2019 22:09

Smoke = mmm by the fireplace:)

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 16/05/2019 22:10

Tauer Miriam is fabulous btw. It's a soft chypre, actually very reminiscent of Habanita in its powdery vanilla heart but I also get some incense in the base. Slightly wishing I'd gone for the FB instead of the purse spray now...

Sounds gorgeous maud

MrsMoggs · 16/05/2019 23:10

Other shared picks: Eau du Sud/Yardley Jade?

MrsMoggs · 16/05/2019 23:55

Etui Noir or Feu Follet for the leather? We discuss both from time to time?

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 17/05/2019 07:06

I'd say Feu Follet for leather. I have and love both but FF edges it I think. It is truly beautiful and well worth a sniff.

SOTD is PG Limanakia. In terms of notes this is white flowers, cumin and woods which sounds as if it should be quite shouty, but it's quite understated and very wearable. There is definitely a salty/beachy aspect to it which you wouldn't expect but it very clear. It's lovely and I want a FB for the summer (not gonna happen).

Sotd pp by the fireplace

teta · 17/05/2019 10:52

Cristalle today and Chanel Beige yesterday.
How about Cristalle or Mito for the jade/ Eau d sud section?
Or Malle Une Rose for the La Fille de Berlin continuum?
Yes Feu Follet is good for the smoke!
Can we have a Galbanum Monster?

MrsMoggs · 17/05/2019 11:28

Mito please! (Would love a FB of that...).

Trying to think of shared galbanum likes? Silences is a good entry point? Plenty of fans of the old Miss Dior here?

Swedetalker · 17/05/2019 12:01

Do any of you scent gurus have any recommendations for fragrances which are violet-y?

MrsMoggs · 17/05/2019 12:18

Hi Swede - where are you on the spectrum between shrubby green natural violet and parma violet sweets?

YesQueen · 17/05/2019 12:22

I had a blissful day of sniffing at selfridges!

MrsMoggs · 17/05/2019 13:28

Swede - might not be your bag but our list probably should include Pharrell William's Girl. A collaboration with Commes des Garcon, a milky woody modern violet with cedar.

MotherOfDragonite · 17/05/2019 13:54

SOTD is Dusita Fleur de Lalita on one wrist and Douceur de Siam on the other. Both gorgeous!

Iambuffy · 17/05/2019 14:43

Violet? Guerlain insolence

Calmasasleepycat · 17/05/2019 15:04

Swede, other violets are Lush Kerbside Violet (but do test this first as it is a marmite fragrance!) and Yardley April Violets. I see also that Bloom Perfumery do a Violets Sample pack here. It looks really interesting!

MrsMoggs, how about Maison Martin Margiela Untitled for the galbanum?

MrsMoggs · 17/05/2019 15:08

Lovely vintage (sweetish) violet (and rose) - Tart's Knicker Drawer, 4160Tuesdays.

MotherOfDragonite · 17/05/2019 17:55

I feel like I am going to have to educate myself. Reading all of your suggestions for the 'basics' and feeling like I have a lot more sniffing to do!

Incidentally, I am passing through St Pancras again soon. Which of the Chanel Exclusifs should I definitely sniff or try? (Bearing in mind that I only have two wrists and will have to prioritise which to try! And I was kind of thinking I'd like to try Coco Mademoiselle Intense...)

MrsMoggs · 17/05/2019 17:56

Speaking of which, the lovely Rosa Ribes is half price this week; a greenish blackcurrant chypre. Fruit sharpness and musky/mossy depth all at once. I was slow to grasp how clever it is. It has distinct facets, quite bright, clear and sparkling, but at the same time there is a big cloud of loveliness. I may need a bit more so I can spray with greater abandon.

SotD - vintage Mitsouko parfum. Wow - this is different to the modern EDP. I've picked up a couple of cheap miniatures being sold just for the bottles, and the dregs are still good Smile. Get a sweet, fragrant peaches poached in honey phase when sniffed close-up, and a rich fruity oakmoss (with parallels to Femme) when sniffed from a bit further away.

(And, at risk of having my perfumista stripes ripped off, I do also get the slightest hint of stale chip fat in the opening, which I always get with Mitsouko - is it only me?).

MrsMoggs · 17/05/2019 18:27

Yes to Untitled, Calm!

Mother - Coromandel, Sycomore, Rue 31 Cambon, Bois des Iles, in that order. But others will have different faves...

Iambuffy · 17/05/2019 18:36

Coromandel!

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 17/05/2019 18:53

I need to revisit Rosa Ribes I think. It seems to be a much-loved 4160 but I just don't get it.

I'm waiting for something I like to come up on the half-price but it never does!
