Evening all Grin

Apologies for the cheesy thread title.

Come and join the MN Perfumistas for gorgeously-scented chat (or Germolene and burnt frankfurters...)

KaliforniaDreamz · 13/05/2019 09:33

Yes Teta Byzance, that's it. Thanks.
My Dad used to travel a lot and often brought me perfume home. This was one of them. Not my thing now but back in the 80s those power houses were de rigeur.
Am totally shattered all the time.
Yoga soon tho so wolfing down some scrambled eggs for energy.
SOTD coeur de fleur bc i just can't move on.
love the sound of that birdsong app. and Mother your post made me laugh x

Iambuffy · 13/05/2019 11:11

Beyond tired here....

cantbelievemyeyes · 13/05/2019 13:45

Iambuffy is it just the ordinary La Panthere EDP you want to try? If so I could send you a decant?

Iambuffy · 13/05/2019 13:58

Ooooh! Yes!
Wow.
Thank you!

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 13/05/2019 19:06

SOTD is Neon Rose, am definitely getting a big bottle of this. I think the sharp greeness I get from it must be the Cyclamen note which smells like faint bluebell/Hyacinth.
Anyway I'm torn between getting another discovery box from The Perfume Society or a sample pack from Bloom or 4610 Tuesdays.
Decisions,decisions.

I'm realising I like fragrances that have a strong green note, chypres, tuberose, jasmine, neroli, incense, sandalwood & coffee. I also love the smell of freshly cut grass, bluebells, hyacinths, pavements after it has just rained, the fresh air smell on a freezing cold day, petrol & don't laugh but I love how St Pancras/Kings Cross stations smell, all that diesel & electricity.
Looking at that eclectic lot does anyone have any suggestions?

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 13/05/2019 19:08

Forgot to add cardamom, cinnamon, nutmeg, open fires & that smell in the air just before it snows.

Iambuffy · 13/05/2019 19:39

Gosh, you have such a good grasp on what you like in scent!

I often find I'm baffled by perfume...things that on the page I should love I either just think "meh" or I really dislike them!

I love chypres...but "old school" chypres iykwim? Like knowing by Estee Lauder 😊

I love lemon and bergamot and neroli.

I love woods, smoke, spice, civet, tonka, vanilla, sandalwood, musk, powder, balsamic warm scents.

I always thought I hated gourmands but I really like the raspberry note in 4160 amberama.

I like angel muse! 😳

Have any of you tried this is her by Z&V?

MotherOfDragonite · 13/05/2019 19:44

teta, don't worry at all! It's crazy here too! Whenever is good for you.

Tracy your list sounds sooooo like mine, except the funny thing is that I really didn't like Neon Rose. So I think there is an element of body chemistry at play too.

It's funny you should say about the King's Cross / St Pancras smell, because Hidden by MH reminds me of exactly that area! Not for the diesel exactly but for the secret city smell, the slight waft of bee's pollen and herby overgrowth from near the canal, plus a sort of rooftop air...

I adored: Shangri La (Hiram Green), Verger and Hidden by Miller Harris, Eau My Soul and Centrepiece by 4160, Velvet by Commodity (very open fire-y), Fleurs de Reine by Godet (I think I'm going to sample some of the Godet scents next), Sideris by Maria Candida Gentile for the herby airy mountain tea scent...

You might also want to try Aromatom by Marina Barcenilla, it is insane and fascinating! (Burnt metal smell among other outer space things!)

MrsMoggs · 13/05/2019 19:50

That's a good list Tracey Smile. Some quick thoughts:

For your green/hyacinth moments grab some Jacomo Silences or Geoffrey Beane's Grey Flannel - absolute classics that both turn up regularly in TK Maxx for £12.99. You might like 4160Ts Ealing Green too?

Classic green chypres - you need in your life: Y YSL and Givenchy III - both fabulous and turn up on eBay all the time.

For your petrol moments 4160T's Freeway?

For cardamon try Kenzo's Elephant? And Zoologist's Elephant for sandalwood and green notes. For after the rain - Apres L'Ondee. (Sorry to be literal).

KingsX/STPancras - wow, will smell more carefully. (To be fair, usually am distracted by the Chanel Exclusifs).

Cinnamon - get some Halston Z14 (cheap) and also Asja Fendi (rarer) - eBay. Cinnamon and cloves - Youth Dew?

Iambuffy · 13/05/2019 20:10

Cinnamon and clove????

Estee lauder cinnabar!
4160 Tuesdays amber mambo

Iambuffy · 13/05/2019 20:17

I'm all about the amber atm :)

cantbelievemyeyes · 13/05/2019 20:54

No probs Iambuffy, I have plenty left- have PMd you.

Definitely going on a spending ban. Have just received Malin & Goetz Dark Rum perfume oil from an FB group. Then went into Harvey Nics in Manchester yesterday, and discovered they had loads of Histoire de Parfums in 10ml sizes. I got 1969, which is spicy peaches with chocolate and patchouli. Sounds odd but works so well on me. Another one for my holidays!

One of the Histoire de Parfums I tried , Veni, was a gorgeous spicy scent with lots of cinnamon, cardamom and saffron. Also second Cinnabar.

Iambuffy · 13/05/2019 21:23

Thank you x

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 13/05/2019 21:31

SOTD MMM Lazy Sunday.

MotherOfDragonite · 13/05/2019 22:12

SOTD Eau My Soul.

The toddler nicked the spray bottle and was sniffing it appreciatively this evening. She also tried to lick it before I took it away. Seal of approval!

SpeckledyHen · 14/05/2019 08:09

Hello friendly perfumistas .
Can you help please ? Do Harrods sell Aesop fragrances in the store ?
I’d like to try it as it was recommended on here for me because I like TF Oud Wood , but I don’t want to buy it blind .
I’m going to be in London tomorrow and could detour there .
Thank you

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 14/05/2019 08:26

Aesop stockists

Doesn't look like it but try Liberty or Selfridges, or one of the stand-alone stores?

Thank you very much Maud :)

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 14/05/2019 10:44

SOTD is Histoire de Parfums' 1969, which Tania Sanchez describes as having one of the most magnificent top-notes in history...I think I agree. It really is startlingly beautiful, all the more excitingly for me given that it is mainly made up of peach, which I usually don't get on with at all.

However it's now settling down a little to smell almost exactly like my best mate's bedroom circa 1986 - a rosey fruitchouli with a hint of chocolate, Impulse and Country Born hair gel. Which is delightful in a different way, but I'm not sure that's the effect HdP were going for Grin

A big thumbs-up for Scent City though - they sent me extra samples all packaged up beautifully with a handwritten note. Better than bloody Perfumista who are still pretending that they sent my order out last week...again.

Mother than sounds dangerous.
My younger sister tried to drink a bottle of my mums perfume once and ended up with badly scabbed lips.
Sotd is Chasse Aux Papillon. One of those limpid transparent florals that L ‘ Artisan Parfumeur do so well. Its gorgeous here.

Iambuffy · 14/05/2019 10:48

Oh dear.

I just ordered the HdeP discovery set.

I blame you maud

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 14/05/2019 10:58

Hahaha buffy - we can always use GCSE stress as the excuse not that we really need one Grin
