Evening all Grin

Apologies for the cheesy thread title.

Come and join the MN Perfumistas for gorgeously-scented chat (or Germolene and burnt frankfurters...)

I’d join a sniff test too PhilipMarlow though I’m not in the UK so would need a bit of notice to get my hands on the box.

Need to figure out weather before SOTD, it was so cold, windy and hail strewn yesterday than I went back to Bois d’ascèse which I think of as wintry. That was after scrubbing off a BDK Creme de Cuir sample, I’d enjoyed in on me in the shop but found it cloyingly dense, heavy and sweet. So I need to get it right today. Possibly DS&Durga Bowmakers.

MrsMoggs · 05/05/2019 08:12

In the mood for an optimistic floral today...but what? Do you have favourites?

Iambuffy · 05/05/2019 10:12

Optimistic?
Hmmm.
Florals aren't my thing but something like Gucci bloom?

MrsMoggs · 05/05/2019 10:15

OK, so dug out the miniatures. Lauren, Ralph Lauren, almost hits the spot; stripped back green floral on powdery woods. Elegant and simple. Nothing muddies the composition. Heart is clear like a good jasmine tea.

Also retried Safari - what a revelation. I get it this time! This is a bit like how I remember Dune - one big, wide-open space-inspired, persistent chord. I was going to say I haven't seen (smelt?) the wood from the trees before on this - but that wouldn't be very fitting as there isn't much green here of any variety; it's dusty and warm. (Oh, just checked and this preceded Dune by a year).

And while I was rummaging, I also retried Parure (have a dab or two let in a micro bottle of what I suspect is parfum - exceptionally kind gift from a Perfumista here). Wow, this is the tyrannical Grand Dame of perfumery. Deepest, richest possible red, plum and green notes wrapped-up in spice, moss, leather. Impossibly medicinal but still wildly intoxicating. Plan to marinate myself in this stuff in my dotage. Sort of perfume that makes others stand up a bit straighter when they are talking to you.

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 05/05/2019 10:16

An optimistic floral...hmmm not sure! I would probably go for something cheerful, clean and straightforward like Paul Smith Rose. Although I find Freeway very cheering as well, even though it's basically about the end of western civilisation Grin

No SOTD yet for me. Bit hungover. DP and I were out for dinner last night with friends, and the hot priest from Fleabag was at the next table. Quite exciting!

Thanks Buffy . I've drifted away from my brief this morning! Have just sniffed Bloom, and alongside the Parure it smells amazingly fresh and zippy.

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 05/05/2019 10:20

I've never tried Safari - I think I would like it though.

I'm also quite tempted by a bottle of Florabotanica...it's one of those that keeps catching my eye on sale sites...

I wore Heeley Verveine d Eugenie last night and it was refreshingly perky. You’ve reminded me of my vintage Safari bottle. So I might wear that today. I’ve been instructed by Dd2 to go buy a stick on bra for her party 👗.So I will be kept busy.

Iambuffy · 05/05/2019 13:12

Safari is indeed lovely.

Stick on bra????

Say what????

teta · 05/05/2019 13:15

I know Buffy!
She’s only 14 and size 4/6 with no bust so I don’t know why she needs this specific bra.

Iambuffy · 05/05/2019 13:20

But....but....stick on!!??

What sorcery is this!

teta · 05/05/2019 13:26

Apparently they’re in H&M.
I have been instructed not to buy ones in Primark as they are rubbish apparently.

Iambuffy · 05/05/2019 13:27

Well.
You learn something new every day!

Iambuffy · 05/05/2019 13:29

I am in pp by the fireplace
Its grey and cold here

MrsMoggs · 05/05/2019 14:44

That reminds me - Maud, was it you or someone else here, interested in a swap of 9ml of Freeway? PM me if you're still interested!

auberginesrus · 05/05/2019 15:06

Hello fragrant ones, popping in after a long absence to say there were a few 100 Bon fragrances in my TK Maxx today for £12.99 a pop. After a quick check on Fragrantica I took a punt on Davana & Vanilla Bourbon, which is described as an oriental vanilla. Top notes of plum, lychee and mandarin (certainly were, edged on being a bit too fruity for me), middle notes of rose, Jasmine and patchouli (must have blinked and missed that) base notes of Cedar and vanilla (v pleasant). All in all good for the price.

Am also gutted as I ordered 9ml of Mrs Gloss Lemon Sherbet when it was half price, tried it once, loved it and now can't find it - suspect it may have gone in the cardboard recycling with the packaging Sad

Hope all well and smelling fabulous

Iambuffy · 05/05/2019 15:14

Oh nooooooo

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 05/05/2019 16:09

aubergines I have a couple of ml of Lemon Sherbet knocking about if you'd like it, not much but it might tide you over! It's not my bag so happy to pass it on.

Just FYI the 15% 'mrsgloss' discount still works on the site so it does knock a couple of quid off the 9ml bottle. Not half price I know but...

I might have to check out those 100 Bon perfumes; I think they're decent quality (Liberty stock them so they must be ok Wink) and £12.99 is a bargain.

MrsM have pm'd you.

SOTAfternoon (better late than never) is Carner El Born. Figs, honey and vanilla, but dusty, woody and dry rather than overly unctuous and sweet. Rather enjoying, and another for the gourmand-lovers.

Just bought another Tauer discovery set Blush

OP posts:
TracyBeakerSoYeah · 05/05/2019 16:39

Naughty Maud Grin What have you got in it?

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 05/05/2019 16:47

Au Coeur de Desert
LADDM (both of the above because I am running out of my samples and need some top-ups)
Incense Extreme
Orange Star
Sotto la Luna Tuberose (those three because I've never tried them before)

Now I just need a sample of Les Annees 25 and L' oud, and I'll have had a sample of every Tauer scent.

And then I'll just need to narrow it down to a few FBs Grin #inmydreams

Miller Harris really floats my boat for florals, I just like them more than others on me personally. I really like MH Coeur de Jardin for a cheerful floral, and Scherzo for a more exuberant/sweet/crazy one. Pamplemousse is also a very happy scent, though more spring and green than flowers. I'm going to try their tuberose ones next time I pass!

Iambuffy · 05/05/2019 17:17

Marvellous maud :)

I'm hoping dh gets me an AT fb for xmas 🤞

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 05/05/2019 18:17

Maud just been having a peruse of the Les Senteurs website & was looking at the Tauers. I particularly like the vision/sound of LADDM, Sotto la Luna Tuberose & Une Rose de Kandahar.

Buffy Black Opium is my SOTD & I quite like it. I can smell the coffee as soon as I spray it on. The orange flowers & jasmine are coming through nicely & the spiciness of the original Opium is coming through.
Funnily enough Black Opium reminds me of an earlier Opium incarnation Opium Orchidée de Chine which I wore when DD was tiny (probably why she behaves likes me when I'm in Florientals Smile )

I fell asleep reading The Perfume Society Scented Letter last night & had the most bonkers dream about Meghan & Harry's imminent baby arrival! I dreamt Meghan gave birth to a giant bottle of perfume, called the baby Magic & did the photo shoots at an Estée Lauder counter in both John Lewis & Debenhams.

Is this perfume obsession normal? Grin
