Evening all Grin

Apologies for the cheesy thread title.

Come and join the MN Perfumistas for gorgeously-scented chat (or Germolene and burnt frankfurters...)

Iambuffy · 29/04/2019 19:27

Really enjoyed the Neil Chapman book

CountFosco · 29/04/2019 20:17

SotD Thurible. Cloves and smoke then incense and rose then almost a musky dry down. Very enjoyable.

First day of mock SATs for DD1. Duh duh duh. She seems fairly calm though.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 29/04/2019 21:23

SOTD Miss Dior. Good luck to DD for the mocks, count. I am drowning in marking at the moment, and am not sure if I feel more sorry for the students, or myself!

Iambuffy · 29/04/2019 21:36

Well.

S8 ep3 of GofT prob the best piece of TV I've ever seen.

Ds1 starts his gcses 2 weeks tomorrow!

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 29/04/2019 21:38

Oh my God, that makes me feel ancient. I sat my GCSE's 30 years ago!

Iambuffy · 29/04/2019 21:42

30 years for me too :)

MrsMoggs · 29/04/2019 22:33

I don't even want to do that calculation...

Bad luck Buffy.

SoTD was MG Lemon.

Came home to the delivery card from Royal Mail that noone wants to receive (when 50mls of vintage perfume is in the parcel), MrsM, I have thrown your parcel over the back gate .
Bear in mind the back gate is 8ft+ high. Sure enough, the parcel was lying about 4ft away from the gate, so had clearly been lobbed over with a bit of welly despite the Y label indicating it contained a bottle perfume

Anyway, there was a happy ending. The seller had packaged it well with a lot of kitchen towel wrapped round the box, so it survived and SotE is Farouche (1973 Nina Ricci floral aldehyde).

Once past the slightly dodgy aldehyde opening, this has a lovely hay/carnation/honeysuckle heart, on a woody/musk/gently mossy base. Complex, but in a subtle and thoughtful way. It has a passing similarity to vintage Missoni (on account of the geranium?), but this is both gentler and more cerebral. I really like the spicy carnation set in a restrained powdery wood.

teta · 29/04/2019 23:01

Me too MrsMoggs
I can’t believe your postman threw a parcel that had a fragile label on.
I really enjoy Thurible too Count.
Good luck to you and your Ds for the GCSE season I am buffy.

CountFosco · 30/04/2019 05:29

I did O grades not GCSEs over 30 years ago and DH went to an old fashioned school that didn't bother with O grades and went straight to Highers. DD1 worked out she'll be doing GCSEs the same year DS is doing his SATs. Which means we'll probably end up with them doing finals and GCSEs the same year as well.

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 30/04/2019 07:08

Ds's start next Weds! I am trying to be very calm about it but inside I'm constantly screaming 'do some bloody work!' He is the poster boy for 'bright but lazy'...just as I was the poster girl at his age. My dad tells me it's karma Grin

Anyway SOTD is Clinique Beyond Rose - this is so great and I'm quite tempted by a FB. It's a spicy, slightly sour, herbal rose with an incense and labdanum base - not at all 'prettypretty' but very satisfying to wear.

Judy, I feel your pain - I'm locking myself in the library today to plough through marking. Going into the office means I get constant interruptions and working from home means I eat too many biscuits, so the library it is!

I'm trying to be zen about it all 😁 with mixed results!

KaliforniaDreamz · 30/04/2019 11:35

My DD has SATS but after all the 11plus drama we haven't even given these a thought... probably a bad idea as we had a note home to say she is staying late to do a catch up session in maths LOL ---oops...

DS1 has GSCEs next year and like maud's son he is bright and lazy. i failed most of my O'levels (ancient) as a result of laziness and i don't want him to be like me!

he had coursework to hand in today and it was relaly sub par. I despair...

mrs shocking delivery !! thank god it was ok.

I am hobbling a bit today and feeling sorry for myself. off to do a food shop because, excitement.

SOTD Timeless

Iambuffy · 30/04/2019 12:12

I'm trying to leave him alone and just be supportive but its soooooo hard!

Little bugger just wont accept that we, his parents, who have sat many exams over the years, could possibly know what we are talking about!
Grrrrr. That's 15 year olds for you :)

Sotd pp by the fireplace

Been to drs, had bloods done and got to have an ecg on Friday.

Oh, and my HRT patches are no longer available and I cant take oral hormones (stroke risk) so the alternative? Prozac! Ffs.

Ah, the peri menopause, the gift that just keeps giving!

Sorry.

But ranty there 😖

Iambuffy · 30/04/2019 12:15

Oh! Ds1s 4160 order came with a sample of scenthusiasm - it's not for me. Very floral!

I've got a 1 or 2 samples I'm not keen on/wont wear...any takers?

As above ^

Happy to send as a job lot so to speak:) (free obv)

teta · 30/04/2019 13:02

IamBuffy there are several hrt patches around still. I know a couple of brands aren’t available at the moment but you can probably substitute for the ones you had. If you go on to the Menopause thread someone will help you. If I had to deal with my hormones and teenage hormones ( plus exams) at the same time I would go crackers🤯.
I think Venlafaxine is apparently useful for the treatment of Menopausal symptoms. I used to work for the company when it launched.
Sotd is The Perfume Garden by Mb.

Iambuffy · 30/04/2019 13:10

Thanks teta

MotherOfDragonite · 30/04/2019 16:24

SOTD is Monyette Paris. I keep thinking I'm ok to move on from it, but then it just smells so nice on me and I kind of think people identify it as 'my' smell, which is also nice somehow.

Beautiful sunshine here. I'm thoroughly exhausted as little one was up all night coughing. Lots of really emotional family/practical stuff to deal with at the moment to do with winding up an estate after a death, and I just feel I have no emotional capacity for anything. I would really like to try psychotherapy to give me some kind of route to process things, but I'm not sure I can justify the cost (but maybe I am spending enough on fripperies, like perfume, that I could cut back?!?! Perish the thought...)

Iambuffy · 30/04/2019 17:16

My babys national insurance number arrived today.

I'm OLD

KaliforniaDreamz · 30/04/2019 19:47

KaliforniaDreamz · 30/04/2019 19:49

teta · 30/04/2019 20:18

I’m on the patches plus Utrogestan Kalifornia.
Shall we set up a Hrt self help group?😁.
Mother surely perfume is an essential?
Sorry you’re feeling so exhausted. I hope you have a better nights sleep tonight.

Iambuffy · 30/04/2019 22:13
