Evening all Grin

Apologies for the cheesy thread title.

Come and join the MN Perfumistas for gorgeously-scented chat (or Germolene and burnt frankfurters...)

@KaliforniaDreamz I have reviewed over 60 Avon fragrances on my blog. Ask me anything!

Here are my current recommendations (not a rep, just a perfume blogger)

Pur Blanca is amazing- soft whispery clean laundry musk.
Imari Elixir- wonderful blackberry vanilla

Far Away Infinity- quite similar to Paco Rabanne Olympea- vanilla floral but very well done.

Timeless- amazing old skool amber chypre. Smells a bit like Cabochard

Little Black Dress Weekend- wonderfully light orange flower floral.

Soft Musk- classic floral musk- touch of honeysuckle and rose.

my blog is iscentyouaday and I'm a Mumsnet blogger.

SOTD Jimmy Choo Floral

Iambuffy · 26/04/2019 16:23

Listen to missb! :)

Iambuffy · 26/04/2019 20:38

Sote mocha by prosidy
Lovely

1frenchfoodie · 26/04/2019 21:19

SOTD Prolixe, Histoires de Parfums. I would not have picked any of the notes listed on Fragrantica (weird mix of pineapple, grapefruit, cedar, sandalwood, patchouli etc etc) but it smells divine - almost waxy but in a good way - and has lasted 12h+.

Lotsofpots · 26/04/2019 21:28

SOTD was 4160 Who Knew for a job interview.

MrsMoggs · 26/04/2019 21:41

Hi Floof - hope you and Junior Floof are OK - doesn't sound like either of you are having an easy time of it?

I love Mocha, Buffy - shame it's ££££ (I think it's made of organic ingredients?).

SotD was vintage First and SotE is Red Queen.

Speaking of which, did anyone else catch Sarah Mc today, straight after the World at One? (The programme was about blending; tea, whiskey, perfume - but not together Grin).

I see SotW is What I Did On My Holidays.

Iambuffy · 27/04/2019 07:34

I've bought it for ds1s 16th in a few weeks mrsm :)

Scarborough beach is one of his favourite places in the world.

floofy Hope you and minifloofy are ok? X

MrsMoggs · 27/04/2019 08:25

Lotsofpots · 27/04/2019 09:36

Oh battle thanks to you I now have an avon wish list the length of my arm.

CountFosco · 27/04/2019 12:47

SotD Rose Silence.

Thanks Calm, the Rook samples arrived this morning. I've had a quick sniff and clearly got a tiny bit on my finger becaause they smell of petrichor. Looking forward to trying them all properly.

KaliforniaDreamz · 27/04/2019 14:23

MissB thank you SO much! i will check out your blog too.

SOTD white musk -for old skool vibes. alo wearing adidas trackie top in case anyone wonders where the 90s went... i am wearing them.

teta · 27/04/2019 14:57

I have my Mb bottles😁👍😁.
The Perfume Garden is the most realistic beautiful Rose that just touches my heart. It’s the amalgamation of those sunny Rose scented endless days as a child, mixing Rose Perfume in our garden. We used to denude the neighbours flowers as my mother didn’t have green fingers. I really do believe these perfumes have a aromatherapeutic benefit as they’re so uplifting. Mb parfums are all made with natural oils and this really does make a difference.
Mother if you want to sell your bottle I would be happy to buy it off you. I’ve just tried to buy a second bottle and it’s all sold out.
I will try India properly tomorrow.

Iambuffy · 27/04/2019 17:13

Well.
I've cried myself into migraine watching avengers endgame!
Sotd is mocha by prosidy again today.
I was in town and bought a ysl lip stain so the girl gave me a black opium sample. Havent tried it yet.
Off to put a cold flannel on my forehead...

Iambuffy · 27/04/2019 17:57

Hoping he likes it mrsm
Got him a young drivers lesson and some GofT gifts too.
I think we will take him out for a meal too.

ImTheRealHFella · 27/04/2019 18:02

Just purchased a new perfume for the first time in ages....the d&g light blue sun special edition. It's glorious.

How long are they normally about for (I'm definitely going to need to stash bottles in the bottom of the wardrobe....)

CountFosco · 27/04/2019 18:44

SotE Undergrowth. My beloved DDs both hate it, DH made non-committal noises. I'm kinda loving it. There's mint and vetiver and patchouli. So far, so predictable for me. There is also soil tinture, this is what the DDs didn't like and it's very dominant initially (although I still got the mint mixed in at that point) but it's so clever. It's so accurate that this is the first perfume I've smelt that actually does smell like petrichor. I'm a few hours in now and the soil has receded and the vetiver and patchouli has come to the fore. I suppose I don't really want to smell like Undergrowth but I've enjoyed the art of the perfumer today.

Iambuffy · 27/04/2019 19:45

Black opium is ok.

I cant say it bears any resemblance to the original though!

MotherOfDragonite · 27/04/2019 22:23

teta, I'm so pleased your order arrived, and yes, I would definitely be happy to sell you my bottle of Perfume Garden. I agree with you about how beautiful it is but it's not so "me", and India is my major MB love! (And I really suspect you will love it too although it's very different).

I didn't wear any scent today. It was actually a bit weird! Had a lovely walk along the river.

I'm re-evaluating my feelings about tuberose after trying it in the Godet EDP at the Tate. Can anyone recommend any other tuberose scents that might be worth a try?

cantbelievemyeyes · 27/04/2019 23:24

Had a surprisingly fruitful pre-Avengers sniff in Manchester Selfridges today. Popped in to test the new MFK scents but got sidetracked chatting to a lovely sales assistant, who gave me several Atkinson testers and a couple of Initio. So SOTD for the film was Initio Side Effect, gorgeous cinnamon, leather, and vanilla. Of course its £190 a bottle, grrrr.

Calmasasleepycat · 28/04/2019 08:43

Count, I’m sure you will enjoy trying the Rooks. They’re so interesting, if a little strident!

I’ve been wearing 4160Tuesdays’ Inevitable Crimes of Passion for the last couple of days. This is one of my best-loved perfumes - certainly in my top five. It has a distinctive smell which is like nothing else. I can catch different notes at different times, but to me it’s what I imagine an Edwardian Gentlemen’s club to smell like, embued with hints of finest cognac, lots of dark chocolate, fragrant tobacco and velvet curtains.

MrsMoggs · 28/04/2019 09:55

Mother - see if Feel Unique still have the Amouage Love Tuberose in their pick n mix samples? Calm describes it as a blousy tuberose. Beyond the opening it's joined by a luscious dewy, radiant jasmine. It's like the most magical, opulent garden of white flowers ever. (And I don't usually like tuberose. I gave my first sample away without event trying - their is a moral here, Perfumistas!).

Sounds great, Can't.

Calm - right, am in PP Samsara right now but you've inspired me to dig out ICoP later.

KaliforniaDreamz · 28/04/2019 09:57

This is lovely

Diptyque's 'Do Son' Eau de Toilette instantly transports you to a pagoda on the Gulf of Tonkin. This floral-infused scent opens with fresh Orange Leaves blended with tenacious Tuberose and Pink Peppercorn middle notes. A base of warm Benzoin and creamy Musk gives it a rich, sensuous finish that lasts all day long.

teta · 28/04/2019 10:12

Miller Harris Noix de Tuberose is stunning. I love wearing this in chilly weather as it’s simultaneously fresh and warming. I also really enjoy Carnal Flower but you do have to enjoy Eucalyptus to like it.
I used to buy Tuberose stems when we lived in Asia to scent our apartment and it was such a beautiful smell. I’ve never really found a perfume that comes close to it. The Profumum Roma perfumes might be worth a try though.
Wearing the perfume garden for the long drive to dds Uni today.

1frenchfoodie · 28/04/2019 10:12

Out of curiosity what is the germolene scent mentioned in the opening post? Had a lovely hour or sniffing at Jovoy yesterday including BDK’s Rouge Smoking - an addictive warm, floral germolene. I got a sample (they do small free samples of whatever you like). DH hates it with a passion.

Just added ‘do son’ and ‘love tuberose’ to my try list. I feel so inadequate in my des riotions compated to many of you here.

Calmasasleepycat · 28/04/2019 11:21

Mother, some other tuberose perfumes to try are:

Robert Piguet Fracas - swoony and bubble-gummy tuberose. Very strong and “out there”.

Frederick Malle Carnal Flower - classy, heady tuberose, easier to wear than Fracas.

L’Artisan Nuit de Tuberose. Another one of my top ten perfumes, this is what I would describe as a dusty tuberose. It has herbs in it too. It is like walking along a hot dry pathway, perhaps on a Mediterranean island, at nighttime, lined with night-scented shrubs. It’s not strong, but wafts around for hours.

Madonna Truth or Dare. This is also a swoony tuberose with a bubblegum vibe. It’s been discontinued, so difficult to find at a reasonable price.
