Sighs for the days when people actually read other peoples explanations, and had the sense to understand some people wanted an easy to throw on dress! Why is mumsnet so grumpy and “mememe” all the time now? It’s clearly the lack of dossing about with wine!

Anyway, was nice to have a reminder of good threads! (And the neckline and straps of that dress would suit me, but I don’t like the pattern and suspect the waist would be too high. I will just suggest the Boden Berenice dress though- will link later when not on my phone).

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 02/04/2019 08:11

SIGH that posters simply won’t fall in line when offered a nonsensical explanation
SIGH cant these posters just accept the hierarchy of the ‘throw on’ dress as opposed to dressing
Finally LOL that mn is mn is now mememe, ahh the not like the old days speech

BabyDarlingDollfaceHoney · 02/04/2019 08:32

Why is it illegal to want to look nice on the school run? Surely you see loads of people you know there....

I'm not keen on the dress though. I love a flowery summer dress but something about the shape of this one I don't love.

I don't do a shool run but having read the requirements of wear this www.joythestore.com/louche-cathy-blossom-tea-dress-navy with white trainers and a tan backpack.

SwappitySwap · 02/04/2019 08:36

It’s something my MIL would like to slip on for the school run. But then she does “dress for dinner”. In her 1970’s 4 bed suburban mansion. [massive eyeroll]

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 02/04/2019 09:06

Why is it illegal to want to look nice on the school run?
Illegal?who would enforce that then?the polyester police?Frumpy dress coppers?
Surely you see loads of people you know there..
no I don’t do school run

SoyDora · 02/04/2019 09:25

I’m a SAHM to a 5 year old, 3 year old and a 12 week old. I do the school run twice a day, 5 days a week. I get dressed in the morning and wear the same clothes all day until I go to bed, generally. Is that unusual? Do most people get changed multiple times a day? Obviously I understand if you’re going to the gym but I don’t get that luxury Grin.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 02/04/2019 09:32

Lorca what an enlightening post about socially strangled etiquette and dressing
Genuinely bizzare that there is a notion of worrying about whether you’re wearing the right underwear.
Fortunately No I don’t inhabit that world,or it’s after school socialisation.it sounds uptight and snobby

It’s the notion of right sort of attire to throw on.that it’s a dress (feminine?) and suitably middle class. Presumably one must exude middle classness

I completely get being dressed for school run, that can be jeans, leggings, hoodie, whatever. That’s simply functional. But restriction of a choice to be naice dress is stifling.

NiceViper · 02/04/2019 09:37

LipstickHandbagCoffee

You've got it the wrong watpy rfor hand.

This thread is about finding the MN SRD - which is specific jargon for an easy-to-wear summer dress.

It is sod all to do with any real school run.

I think various people have already punctuated the thread wth posts pointing this out.

So for the benefit of those who don't RTFT

CANCEL THE CHEQUE

(In big capitals so people might realise there is a common misperception to n this thread, that has been asked and answered many times.

GOT IT? CANCEL THE CHEQUE!!

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 02/04/2019 09:43

I haven’t got anything wrong, and shouting cancel the cheque adds nowt
It’s the notion of an appropriate dress to ‘throw on’ as opposed to simply dressing
You’re spectacularly missing the point if you cant see the fussy etiquette having of a naice dress for school run

FaFoutis · 02/04/2019 09:48

Therefore, the SRD is not (necessarily) for the school run at all.

PenCreed · 02/04/2019 09:54

I thought worrying about the right underwear was a case of “ do my dark/patterned knickers show clearly through this pale dress?” not any great societal construct! I tried on the dress I was wearing to a wedding a while back and discovered that the pink pattern on my knickers showed very clear through the pale fabric. The right underwear for that dress was plainer...

Persimmonn · 02/04/2019 09:54

I wear the same clothes to the school run, home and then off to work Confused. Do people change for every daily chore?

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 02/04/2019 09:54

If we’re doing this RTFT thing I suggest you revisit posts, extolling virtues of a throw on suitable dress
Key point being the suitability of the dress,it’s not any old purchase,it has a specific purpose eg School run
Jeans, leggings aren’t cutting it,to look appropriate it requires a dress
So on a conscious level there is an attempt to curate a certain look for a specific audience
This lacks spontaneity,it isn’t simply putting on clean clothes,it’s chosing to project a certain look

MoggyP · 02/04/2019 09:59

"t’s not any old purchase,it has a specific purpose eg School run"

No it hasn't

This is an easy-wear dress thread.

That it's called the SRD is a specific MN in-joke.

(sympathise deeply with the urge to type 'cancel the cheque' in capitals)

NiceViper · 02/04/2019 10:02

Do people change for every daily chore?

If they do, it wouid be a wholly different thread to this ne, which is nothing to do with any actual school run

So yes, that's why it's a CANCEL THE CHEQUE situation. Because no matter how many times it's explained that SRD means something quite specific, and that this is the annual summer dress thread, people continue to post about actual school runs.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 02/04/2019 10:09

Nice,do read back,do read the specific references to a dress for school run
There are posters agreeing & recalling school run dress and how recommendations were made
the throw on dress chosen in preference to simply putting on available clean clothes. clearly there is a nod to looking ok for a specific audience

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 02/04/2019 10:15

this is the annual summer dress thread, people continue to post about actual school runs.
That’s tying yourself up in a Gordian knot to try prove your point
If this were, the as you say ‘actual’ Summer dress thread it’d be called the summer dress thread.
posters wouldn’t be recalling school run recommendation in oh the old days manner

SheSaidNoFuckThat · 02/04/2019 10:17

I don't know anyone who would wear that tbh

lunicorn · 02/04/2019 10:21

I wear jeans and a jumper for everything. I have cankles so a school run dress is out for me. I am pleased to say I have never used the words 'school run' in my life apart from to reply to mnet threads.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 02/04/2019 10:21

It is ghastly.

PaulHollywoodsleftbollockhair · 02/04/2019 10:23

WEll this has become a wee bit fraught given it’s a thread about a ditsy summer dress 😀.....

Some people like dresses, some don’t. Some people have bumming around the house clothes that they change out of when going out, some wear presentable stuff all the time and others give no fucks and slob out all the time.

It matters not a jot really in the scheme of things. Do what makes you happy 🙂

Elllllle · 02/04/2019 10:24

I'm old enough to remember the original SRD threads. I remember (early 20s) thinking, wow they are so frumpy. S&B has come a very long way (thank fuck) since then.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 02/04/2019 10:27

It’s not fraught in the least.what did you say to get deleted btw?were you fraught

PaulHollywoodsleftbollockhair · 02/04/2019 10:32

DIdnt realise I had been! No just said that I had made a genuine recommendation re Capri trousers on the thread I started when aspersions had been cast otherwise and that I didn’t work for any company. No idea why that got reported 🙄

Actually I would like to know why it was as it was factual and inoffensive......
