So how did the order of things work when there were 3 Queens alive?
Obviously HMQE2 came first, but where did The Queen Mother & Queen Mary appear if/when they were altogether at an engagement?
I understand both the Queen Mother & Queen Mary had a stubborn streak & can imagine them both trying to shove each other out of the way. Must have driven Prince Philip doolally tap at times!

BartonHollow · 12/03/2019 03:01

Though they were "on a level" status wise as former consorts, I would imagine Mary took precedence over the Queen Mum or that they went very out of their way to avoid any public outings were precedence was a factor

This probably sounds bad but it was the 1950s British Class System. Mary was old school royalty, her line went back to medieval times and by contrast rumours persisted even beyond her death that QM was illegitimate and all was hushed up.

The Duke And Duchess Of Windsor certainly bought the story, but they absolutely hated her (and vice versa) so who knows?

SenecaFalls · 12/03/2019 03:07

Queens Dowager go in order of who is most recent first, so Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother had precedence before Queen Mary.

SenecaFalls · 12/03/2019 03:19

If Philip outlived the Queen, Charles would need to determine his precedence. Right now Philip is generally first among males, by order of the Queen.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 12/03/2019 05:20

The order of precedence thing doesn’t appear to be set in stone.
The Queen seems to have rejgged it so that the “blood Princesses”
Anne, Alexandra, Beatrice and Eugenie take precedence over Camilla, Kate and Meghan when their husbands are not there.

What happened back in the day with Diana? Did The Princess of Wales title trump everything; even if Charles was not present?

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 12/03/2019 05:22

*Charles wasn’t present

Some gorgeous pins of the Bhutanese RF

Their airline is 35% female. Would have done well on IWD

Sophie was also wearing VB the other day. I think that over long, loose fit only works if you are super skinny like vb herself.
Otherwise it looks matronly.

Jetsun is just stunningly beautiful

desertgirl · 12/03/2019 06:52

I think the ‘royal blood’ thing has always been the case - certainly sounds like it applied in Victorian times though I can’t quote anything just now

Rhubarbisevil · 12/03/2019 07:24

The Bhutanese RF are stunning!

Elllllle · 12/03/2019 07:25

Omg love her, but the whole "uniform" of Kate's is so fucking boring! That red coat dress thing is no-one's version of stylish.

How does CP Mary nail it so often? It's not about being perfect, either

beanaseireann · 12/03/2019 07:37

I don't get the "love" for CPMary. She looks very ordinary in pic from Texas.
Sophie's outfit is VB Shock
Awful. But it was probably ££££. Hmm

BlingLoving · 12/03/2019 07:43

For formal events, where the family enter in ranking order, it's always in order of succession. Always. And they are seated in that order as well. I have never seen a situation where they are arrayed in an order with proximity to the queen being more nb than the throne.

AS for.spouses, I know there was previously lots of talk about kate and Camilla being lower down packing order sans husbands. I can't help wondering if that's still true?

beanaseireann · 12/03/2019 07:47

Secret Sales have a shoe sale today.with Aquazzurro , Manolos, Sophie Webster included.
I know Meghan wears lovely Aquazzuro shoes.
Sadly all out of my price range and ability to wear heels. Smile

QueenOfTheAndals · 12/03/2019 08:30

Wow, the king and queen of Bhutan really are the best looking royal couple in the world, aren't they!

Kate wore many designers in her 12 and a bit months (some she had several pieces by and/or bespoke pieces): Alexander McQueen, Alice Temperley, Amanda Wakely, Catherine Walker, Erdem, Jenny Packham, Matthew Williamson, Roksanda Ilincic, Smythe and Roland Mouret.

I like her in Roland Mouret - she wore the cream bespoke number to Claridges (with Jimmy Choo shoes) and the navy dress (with a Smythe blazer, Manalo Blahnik shoes and a Mulberry bag) to board the plane for the Canada tour.

Edit - First twelve and a bit months as a Royal

Gooseysgirl · 12/03/2019 08:50

I thought TM looked like a fashion car crash yesterday... I actually thought when I first saw the picture that it was a joke and someone had superimposed her head onto a photo of someone else 🤷🏻‍♀️ (and I totally agree with you @EstrellaDamn)

Elllllle · 12/03/2019 08:53

I think I just find CP Mary a more stylish/interesting (and "more real") version of Kate? Meghan can look fabulous but too often a bit contrived or something, like she's tried too hard and spent too much just for the label.

I find "best looking" polls a bit awful, sorry. Style and fashion, okay, but "best looking" is a bit like we're all back in school Smile

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 12/03/2019 09:26

I think Kate was careful to wear a lot of high street stuff.
Reiss, Top Shop, LK Bennet, especially on High Profile occasions like her engagement photo and meeting the Obamas for the first time.
I don’t know what designers she wore where; but she definitely wore a lot of British Designers on her tour of the US, which is part of her job.

I don’t Meghan will ever make the £56k engagement dress mistake again.
I bet that was borrowed.

I read somewhere that Jessica Mulroney’s main job is to promote Canadian brands and she styled Meghan on Suits.

QueenOfTheAndals · 12/03/2019 09:59

@Curly The Monegasque women are definitely good-looking, the men not so much. Or at least they start off good-looking and then something happens to them - look at how beautiful Andrea Casiraghi used to be!
