Those photos of Diana are amazing! Most of them I've never seen before. Agree she wasn't classically beautiful but she had an amazing figure and charisma in spades. In every photo she just shines out and draws the eye. Even with the unforgiving early 80s fashion, she is just amazingly photogenic.

QueenOfTheAndals · 14/03/2019 12:14

@SlipperOrchid I agree. Kate is striking and perfectly groomed but I don't think she's beautiful like Meghan is. Diana wasn't conventionally pretty but had the most beautiful skin and was very photogenic. I think she was at her most stunning towards the end of her life when she adopted a sleeker style of dress and hair.

Princess Margaret in her youth was film-star beautiful.

I was very young when Diana was photographed everywhere, all the time, but I don't think she was photographic, sorry, apart from having good skin. Being charismatic doesnt make you physically beautiful? Kate is very very pretty and Meghan is incredibly photogenic and attractive.

NigellasGuest · 14/03/2019 12:26

I was very much around in Diana's era as I'm in my fifties- she was thought of as a bit of a frumpy Sloane by me and my friends (though I'm sure lots of people out there loved her look and that was reflected in the press etc). She looked better in the mid 90s because she sort of found her style so looked as good as she personally could, IMO. I personally would describe her as "attractive." U think she could have been one of those people who look better in the flesh than in photos or on TV. I came across her twice and she looked nice.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 14/03/2019 12:28

Meghan has a perfectly symmetrical face, which is usually a sign of beauty and good genes.

Kate is a very attractive woman, and she actually looks beautiful when she carries a little extra weight, usually in the latter part of her pregnancies. She does however have a luminous smile.

Diana had a big nose and one eye slightly larger than the other, but they were huge and blue.
In the link I posted upthread, lots of the photos were taken off guard and there were no filters / photoshop in those days.
I din't know how you describe it, but the camera loved her!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 14/03/2019 12:33

Meghan, Kate, Zara, Eugenie, Beatrice facial mapping

NigellasGuest · 14/03/2019 12:33

Yes there's a lot to be said for no filters and photoshop!

QueenOfTheAndals · 14/03/2019 12:34

Kate looks lovely when she's slightly fuller in the face. It really struck me when I saw photos of her at this year's BAFTAs compared with last year's, when she was pregnant with Louis.

Meghan has something of Julia Roberts about her when she smiles.

It's Diana's skin that I'm always amazed at in old photos of her. No filters, no photoshop, just perfect skin.

QueenoftheAndals
Somewhere on another thread I wrote Meghan has a Julia Roberts look because of her lovely smile.

GetStrongKeepFighting · 14/03/2019 13:04

So much pedantry over a bit of information. The leading paragraph said Buckingham Palace said she didn't have any official engagements scheduled. Obviously it later said a source as they aren't always going to say Mr Secretary of the Diary says…

I was just trying to pass on something I'd read and join in.

isamonster · 14/03/2019 13:22

I thought this thread was about style and not a beauty pageant? I pity women in the public eye.

Becles · 14/03/2019 13:28

Love a daily mail unsubtle dig and of course any opportunity to contrast with Kate

Meghan, who is believed to be eight months pregnant, had quite the day on Tuesday with two public outings and two expensive outfits

user1457017537 · 14/03/2019 13:32

NigellasGuest I agree Diana my friends and I thought she wore some proper horrors and her style was considered frumpy. Pie crust collars, pop socks and she was dressed like a Matriach in her early 20’s. She was however beautiful and very photogenic, the camera loved her. You are either photogenic or you are not. At that time there was no photoshop. Nowadays images are enhanced and bear no real action to real life.

user1457017537 · 14/03/2019 13:56

CurlyWurlyTwirly Diana did indeed have a large nose. However, she had beautiful eyes and her eyes would probably not have been so stunning had she had a smaller nose. It’s well known in cosmetic surgery that having a nose job does not always make a face more attractive. Sometimes it has the opposite effect.

GrumbleBumble · 14/03/2019 14:02

I would love to know Diana's skin routine - bulimia usually takes it toll on the skin so how did she managed to stay so "fresh" looking rather than drained?

Rhubarbisevil · 14/03/2019 14:05

Estée Lauder Double Wear?

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 14/03/2019 14:26

I would love to know Diana's skin routine
Youth!

She had that lovely fine skin which probably would not have aged so well.
See her mother in later years.
I don’t think Diana’s skin was particularly commented on in later years, she was just so famous, her very appearance or clothes sent everyone into paroxysms

I think you're probably right to say youth @Curly, she was just so young when she was in the public eye.

QueenOfTheAndals · 14/03/2019 14:46

I always thought Diana's mother had a look of Princess Alexandra about her. Naturally, there are less salubrious corners of the internet that claim the Duke of Kent was Diana's real grandfather!

queenofarles · 14/03/2019 15:07

Diana looked so fresh and healthy ,no one would guess she had an eating disorder at that time, she was stunning. but I don’t think she aged well.

Silly question , are the Spencers Marlboroughs? Or is it the other way round Marlboroughs are Spencers?

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 14/03/2019 15:11

I think they are related.
Thé Spencer Churchill’s are the Marlborough’s.
I think Winston is related too.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 14/03/2019 15:12

@queen.
Yes that expression is very Princess Alexandra !

BlingLoving · 14/03/2019 15:17

I hate to say this but agree re photogenic or not. DD, who is absolutely beautiful and who gets comments on her looks all the time (I have mixed feelings about that) doesn't photograph that well. She looks gorgeous and adorable in pics, but the subtle beauty of her face doesn't come out (sadly, she doesn't look like me at ALL. She's got the best of both my and DH's families, but it's elements visible in our respective sisters, not us! Grin. I don't like going out with her with either of our sisters as there's always the assumption she is theirs, not mine)
